Judging from the last two days of product releases, I’m expecting BLAH.

I think we agree here. What I meant by "streamline" is keep it to those services you mentioned. If there's an update to the Apple TV (or any update/elimination of the hardware) that may get mentioned but I think the focus will be on services, in particular New and TV/streaming.

Right. At the very least, they’re going to have to announce updates to tvOS to support this but I think the change will be much more substantial, including as you said, releasing a new AppleTV or eliminating it in favour of apps on every TV or via AirPlay, in which case an HDMI AirPlay stick would be shown.

Who buys an iPod Touch in 2019?

Seriously, you can waste your money on a real phone with that price. Even a better Android device. Just stupid.

I'm surprised they still sell the 2015 model for $300 bucks OUCH. Who buys? Donkeys?

Even for a testing device, I would rather buy an old iPhone model for development purposes.

Apple may have plans to announce a new seventh-generation iPod touch in a press release as early as tomorrow.

MacRumors received a tip earlier this month claiming that Apple would announce new iPads, iMacs, and iPods on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this week, and so far this information has proved to be accurate with the arrival of new iPad Air and iPad mini models on Monday and an iMac refresh today. Naturally, we now expect Apple to introduce a new iPod touch tomorrow.

Apple is sometimes good about how they do things... right around the event as well. Coulddn't have come at a better time

It's a niche product because Apple refused to update it with new features not the opposite. Every one said iPad mini was niche too but look at the excitement now after Apple gave it a basic specs update. If Apple took proper care of their product line these devices wouldn't be considered niche.

The iPod touch was niche long before Apple stopped updating it. They last got significant stage time back in the 2012 iPhone 5 event. They introduced the new industrial design and significant hardware updates but sales were already falling fast. Same for the mini. People got a single generation but couldn't be bothered to upgrade because there weren't much to get besides a specs update (which, to be fair, was also true for the full size iPad for a few years). People are only excited now because the much older models only recently became slow and dated enough to warrant a new one. At some point these devices just stops warranting yearly updates if Apple doesn't see a significant enough sales bump afterwards.

Not saying I like it but it's the sad truth. Apple isn't stupid. They wouldn't leave money on the table if something actually was making money.

A little while ago I stumbled across my Touch (latest model) which has lain untouched in my sock drawer since the day I finally sprang for an iPhone. For old times' sake I recharged it and fired it up. One thing immediately caught my attention: it came with FaceTime preloaded. Why in the world provide FaceTime on a device with no capacity? I started fooling around with it and quickly discovered that if it is the same Wi-Fi network with an iPhone it functions pretty much like an extension phone on a landline setup using the same phone nr. as the iPhone (it can send and receive calls and dial calls from Contacts. My house is relatively large with two stories and so I set the Touch downstairs in my den and kept my iPhone in my upstairs office. No more lugging the iPhone back and forth, as long as I'm in the house my iPhone functions as a desk clock. I was so happy with this arrangement that I picked up a second Touch on eBay for less than a hundred bucks, where it functions not only as a second extension phone but as a bedside clock radio (with the help of an Anker Bluetooth speaker which cost me only thirty bucks).

If Apple publicized this capability of the Touch that might stimulate sales a bit.

Wonder if iPad (cheap model) will be updated this week as well?

Would be lame if apple decides to make the CPU be older than the 2 year old standard they set for this model to get folks to buy the more expensive iPads.

I know, I am really hoping for them to release the iPad 7th Gen. I need a new iPad but can't spend $500 on the new Air.

Amazed Apple hasn't dropped the iPod (the device that started its revolution) by now. Most either have an iPhone or iPad or both to do the same jobs.

This new iPod is going to have to step it up big time. FiiO makes a great mobile player with great expandable flash memory option and great processing.

I have to the M5 MK3 and it’s truly an audiophile product!

You don't have to spend $65 a month for a iPod Touch.

I wanted to use an iPod Touch for my car music, but got a slightly bent/broken iPhone 6 instead but unless Apple fixes the music USB support on iOS (maybe if they hired someone that listens to music) I'll just stick with my iPod classic with SSD upgrade.

Product/product family releases every day leading up to the big reveal would be cool and perhaps a good way to build buzz around a service that's Apple worse kept secret in years. Plus, while all these updates are welcome, none so far are revolutionary or as exciting as new iPad Pros or MacBook Air (for example).

For me it seems a bit weird to release/refresh products every day like this, just so that the keynote could 100% focus on a new streaming service that everyone already knows about. If they really update iPods too, I'm ready to think that they will actually release something bigger alongside the streaming service during the keynote, like the new Mac Pro.
But maybe I just like the idea too much that "it's show time" would also refer to a product they've already told us about, which is supposed to be released this year and which has a lot of expectations towards it. Instead of just being all about the new streaming service and maybe some TV-shows and movies.

I honestly had no idea they were still selling iPods! I had one around 2007, I think....

EDIT: I just checked their website, the top nav bar... no mention of iPod whatsoever.

If you open the "Music" tab, you'll find the page for iPod Touch among other music related things.

I'm expecting it to have same design as XR(slightly thinner because of the lack of cellular modulars).
Priced it around $299 and it would be perfect for mobile gaming.

iPad in hand, cup of tea in the other and debit card on my lap, what time will I be able to order the new iPod.

iPod touch with A8 costs €239 with 32GB or €359 for the 128GB model.
They may keep the same price and update it with an A12 keeping the same design with home button.
At that price point it would make for a great test device (even if it came with a A11) for us developers, and to give to kids for playing games, as old iPhones may be too slow for that.

Do you think there is a chance it may have an iPhone XR design?
