If it is more than a minor upgrade I may jump back on the iPod touch bandwagon. I need a better battery and a bigger screen like the iPhone 7. Anything bigger and then it would not be practical for me.

It does seem very odd. Why discontinue the other iPods and change the storage capacities of the Touch so recently if this is happening tomorrow?

This. It would be strange.
Then again, it brings up hope for... an iPad mini 5!! :D:D

It wouldn't surprise me if it was just a color refresh or something to match the new blush gold or something. Apple did this multiple times with the Shuffle and nano.

Maybe to do with managing storage chip inventory if it's going to be using all the same components except a new chip and face ID (if that iOS 11 code is to be believed)? Or maybe the 6/7 will be like the 4/5, 6 continues as lower end, and a new 7 slots in at the top with 128/256 options?

Will probably pick one up if it's got better browsing time using the low power cores of an a10/ a11 :)

Crazy. I would never have guessed. This pushes the amount of money I want to give Apple for stuff I have absolutely no need whatsoever for over $5000.

Apple is the greatest marketing machine the world has ever known.

Of all my Apple devices, my Touch 6 does get the most use though.

If there's a 512 or higher storage option, I'll pay any price for it, so long as it's the same form factor.

Definitely, there's nothing else in the line that comes close to the svelte form factor - only thing that you can clip on to your arm for running or slip into your pocket and not feel it - even an SE has some presence to it with the extra girth and weight

Beat me to the thread! I am so happy, but then I was a little confused

Why does it say “iPod Touch” (note capitalization) the Apple Style Guide states not to do this

Apple Style Guide said:
“Don’t capitalize iPod names even in title-style headings: iPod touch, not iPod Touch.”

Excerpt From
Apple Style Guide
Apple Inc.

Hoping someone at Apple forgot and this isn’t a fake image

My understanding is it's a 3rd party site?

Because it is the 10th anniversery of the iPod touch today(minus 2 days)

I expect a new iPod touch either next year or maybe later this year. There's supposedly an SE update too.
March event could be SE 2nd gen, iPod 7th gen, and another iPad I won’t be able to afford

Don't expect a new Touch until the Touch 6 has problems with IOS.

I give it two years at a minimum.
I don't know, the longest they've went without updating is 2 years and 7 months and the current touch is already over two years old.

I'm starting to need a new battery in my 6.

I'm not sure what to do now. I was holding out for a refresh.

They discontinued the iPod Shuffle and iPod Nano but kept the iPod Touch because it"s actually an iPad Nano. A cheap iPad in your pocket.

Do you know which iPod generation has the best battery life? 5 or 6?

Oh the 5 by far has much longer battery life. I have both. But the last iOS update made it crazy slow. I can see why people say Apple intentionally slows older hardware with software updates.
