I tested it
iTunes says "This song was not copied because it cant be played on this iPhone"

That's terrible. I can't believe that Apple would so urgently release an update to cut off the ringtone installation process. We are using songs that we already paid for, and they still try to make us pay twice.
I'm supplying you guys with a set of free ringtones and a simple installation procedure.
Just go to this thread:

Yep! God Damn!
I thought MS were controll freaks, sheesh!
Personally? I'm pretty certain Apple WILL NOT be closing this as a loophole for a variety of reasons.
iTunes 7.4.1 removes the custom ringtones the above posts put in and leaves them names in the Ringtones tab. Error says cannot be copied because it cannot be played on iPhone.![]()

Yep. When Moki said that Apple appeared to take specific action against how the iToner software worked, it sounded like a good reason to doubt... but I'm something of an optimist. I'm cataloging the series of events for today's story. This is an interesting capper to a fun ride. I really don't want to download the latest version until I've finished playing with this version, so... ah, well. Seems Apple's becoming very active leading up to the iPhone update on third parties manipulating unannounced "features" or "additions" to the iPhone... even inside of iTunes.iTunes 7.4.1
OK, I had the same problem with deleting Ringtones because I accidentally clicked on a .m4r file twice, which put two copies in my Ringtones Tab. I deleted the files from the Ringtones folder, then followed these instructions:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93313
And now they're gone. If you still have trouble try deleting the song you made the ringtone from, then delete the song before doing the above step, then reimport that song after you rebuild.
