these ads are catchy even without music, as if the flashing yellow, purple, green backgrounds weren't enough.

Yeah, we definately need some RAP (regardless of your views on it, it's main stream stuff). Overall though, I liked it. I think the "Now for Windows" is good though. As much as we don't want to admit it, there are people out there that attach stigma with "Mac". The Apple logo at the end is enough.

Haven't seen the new one yet.

Though any new ad for Apple is good ad.

I think they are going for Windows crowd now to get some more sales before holiday season gets here or has it already begun?

Hummm.... so you bought it, I bought it (regarding the last few iPod ads, and yes I am aware not everyone here likes them), so why is OutKast still the number one?

We should seriously try an experiment and see how much weight we carry. :)

That was funny just as I posted I saw it.

I like this one alot very fast paced and with alot of energy.

Wrong. I listen to my share of Hip-Hop (for a rocker) including some gangster rap...DMX, Dre, Cypress Hill, Fugees...word...

Anyway, the Black Eyed Peas song, to me, was a good compromise. I mean, what do you call that other than rap? What, you want Snoop Dog? Next I suppose you want Rush Limbaugh advertising Ford trucks. What? He's mainstream. Have you seen his ratings??

Having more hardcore rap will offend some people. Why do that? I think they've done a good job. Don't let your own personal music preferences get in the way of your senses. Black Eyed Peas is a fine middle ground.

Some of you guys sound like the local media on the Seahawks. The Seahawks, a perennially mediochre team, is 6-3 right now, on top of their division, and all anyone can do is bitch about the fact that they've lost a couple of games. They were 9-7 last year. Y'all need to have some appreciation for how good these times are for Apple, and how great these ads are compared to many in the past. Those of us that have been backing Apple since the '80s are happy. Apple posted a 45 MILLION DOLLAR PROFIT last quarter! Does anyone here remember when that was their loss...EVERY QUARTER??? I do.

[/rant]

I also disagree with the statement that the dancing doesn't go along with the music. This is a very rave-like mix...and...have y'all been to a rave? That's as coordinated as it gets.

I like the ad. Funny, last time I saw one of their ads I was just thinking that they needed a third music type, like rave mix.

Wait a second, I was just thinking they needed a rave mix...how did they know?!?

Well I would like them to use maybe a punk rock track if thats possible??
It would be nice to see commerical with some punk in it or ska would be bette?

I think I would like to see something completely different, just to show diversity in sound... how about Koyaanisqatsi by Philip Glass, I am not really serious about that, but how about something with out a beat something meditative to show the diversity of users. They would do well with a holiday ad, generic holiday ad of course.

That's probably a good idea. Something recognizable to the indie crowd would be ideal, I think a lot of people would be excited about that -- a demographic Apple really needs to tap into.

Its the Neptunes and when I did a search for it in the iTMS, its was listed but not listed :/

Yeah I just got what I thought was that... but instead it was just the lyrics and no 'umph' in that song...

Weird...

They need the remix...

Ah well.

Lets see we need a punk band... some electronica/dance and some rap... yeah then we are 'done'

;)

Hmm... fits right in with the "club kid" culture (music and dance.) Looks good to me! I think the style of dancing done to the music used in the latest commercial is just different.

It drives me nuts that a huge number of hip hop/rap albums have "The Neptunes Present... Clones" in the "users also bought" section but the Neptunes album hasn't been available for weeks now on the iTMS.

I was listening to AM radio on the way home from work and during the Tom Leykis show he did an ad for iTunes. I couldn't believe it. He supposedly has the #1 show on the radio in most of the markets he's in. Has anyone else heard an iTunes ad on the radio?

I want to see a punk rock commerical!

Another good commerical would be some surf rock from Man..or Astroman. They are from my home state and they are pretty well known on SE and W coasts.

For punk rock music I suggest something by Dropkick Murphy's

I was thinking the same thing.....I don't know if this is against forum rules, but what if everyone with an account in the iTunes Music Store went a purchased a pre-determined song? I wonder how much it would change the ratings.....

Here's what I was thinking: we take a look at one song in the iTMS, say, the Top Songs link in iTMS, and pick a song. We then all, en masse, on a pre-determined day, go and buy that song, and see if it changes its rating. Actually, we could do this with any song, not just one in the Top Songs link.

I think I'll start my own thread, and see where this goes.....

favorites?

So, what's everyone's order of most favorite commercial to least?
Mine:
1. Jets
2. BEP
3. NERD

Your credentials seem to be in order

Neptunes, BLack Eyed Peas are both rap, correct, and should not to be confused with Hip-Hop.

What, you want Snoop Dog?

Snoop Dogg (Hip-Hop/Rap) composes more than just "gangster" music.

Having more hardcore rap will offend some people. Why do that?

Well, because this is a democracy and majority rules?. When done properly by choosing an appropriate piece outside of the Gangster genre, Hip-Hop (hardcore) can in fact be greater than the stereotypical definition it tends to be labeled with..... example, Mos Def, Black Starr, Gang Starr, Jeru The Damaja, The Roots, KRS-One, De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, GroupHome, Erick B & Rakim, EPMD, Common Sense.

i wasnt going to read through all the previous 32 posts, but at least off the bat it seems no one IDed the remix...its Jason Nevins remix. You can find more or less this one on the Blue Crush soundtrack, but there is also an extended edit that ive heard out at clubs b4.

I like it!

Just watched the ad on the Apple site - I like it! I'm glad that Apple is choosing a variety of different music styles for their ads so far. It's definitely a good statement to make about iTunes itself, being that the service offers so much music in so many genres.

As for those of you complaining that they need rap, punk, etc. ads, be patient, as I'm sure we'll eventually see more from Apple!

Apple sure knows how to make ads that stand out.

With the vibrant colors and upbeat music, it surely stands out in an ocean of other commercials you see every night.

I think a rap ad would be good. You just have to market it during the right TV programs, i.e. during the shows that the demographic that listens to rap watches. Ditto for indie and whatever else you want to do. It doesn't have to appeal to everyone, just the audience that sees it.
