I wonder if all of those laptops have mobileme installed, would be hilarious if apple could do a little screen sharing and find the purps.

I was thinking that, or they might have some phoning home code seeing as that store had been hit before. They'll just be waiting for the IP addresses to roll in at Cupertino.

All it takes (for the computers at least) is a fresh install of OS X, and they won't be phoning home. If they have any brains, they won't let them connect to the internet until they reinstall OS X.

The phones are a different story though. Apple will find those the second they connect to AT&T's network. AT&T surely will track them for Apple.

I doubt Microsofts stores will EVER be robbed!!

The "armed security guard" should be fired and get a nice bill.
The entire reason for having armed security is that they shoot bad guys plain and simple.

I'd like to see you pull a gun on 6 men not knowing if one of them has a gun themselves.

These guys better be smart about selling these machines if they don't want to get caught. Serial numbers and the concierge software are a big giveaway.

The guard was not armed. Where did you see or hear that?

I have never seen an Apple Store where the machines were not attached to the table. It would be impossible to get even ten items in 31 seconds around here.

Well the macbook pros would just take a good tug to get them off because they just sit on the table with wires holding them on... And as for the small number of iphones and ipods would suggest they stole the ones placed next to the macbook pros and the imacs that are also only held by simple wires....

They don't really have security cables as much as they do just security alarms. If the computers were LOCKED down, like with a Kensington Lock, they couldn't get them off the tables. But the security alarms can come right off -- they're what makes the high pitched squealing noise when the cords become loose.

Exactly what I thought. There must be something amiss at that store. I know for sure all the apple stores in the DFW area have those lappys, phones, and pods locked down with either that annoying cord/alarm glued to the back or an actual combination lock in the laptop cable lock slot.

Ya that might be a good policy for Apple to mandate locks on all the computers at the Apple Stores! ;)

P.S. Did it bug anyone else that the reporters said over and over "Apple COMPUTER store"? Apple took computer out of their name a long time ago!

From what i understand consumers will not be allowed to buy anything at a Microsoft store. It is just a place to go learn about a Microsoft product without any pressure to buy.

No he was unarmed... I love Apple, but liberals don't know security.

Now if the guard had an iFrag... there would just be five dead badguys and a message not to rob Apple. I wonder how many copy cats this might inspire most stores in smaller markets are of the same layout.

Although I would love to see an attempted smash and grab at the 5th Ave store... I want to see them all slip fall down the glass stair case. Textured or not, that thing gives me the willies.

Last week when I was at the Woodcliff Lake, NJ Apple Store I noticed that one of their giant glass doors was missing, replaced with a temporary black wooden door. I wonder if they had a burglary as well?

I think I recall the store in Birmingham, AL having plywood up within the past six months.

There's no pressure to buy in Apple stores either and I'm sure there will be a ton of POS equipment in each and every one of them

After the first robbery, they added an unarmed security guard. I guess after this second robbery the guard will be armed :/.

If that's the case then hopefully there will be no more robberies.

Well

what i wonder is why, at night time do the apple stores not just remove their products and put them in the back, at least the light mobile ones. like come on its not that hard to pull an alarm cable out of the back as u can tell. y just leave them on the table?

Too Nice To Robbers

Find them and have a hanging.... I'm sick of this crap, because in the long run consumers will have to pay more....

Steel roll-up doors in front of the store might help. I'm sure there will be a memo/email going out to the stores to lock those things down. Those guys sure made it look easy to get those things off the tables. It would be funny if Apple could somehow track the machines down.

I think the most pathetic part was the newscaster sensationalizing the robbery. Seriously, it sounded like a track race.

At least someone else said what I was thinking.

As for what is going to happen, I see nothing changing. Apple is Apple and they do things their way because they want to, not because of any outside influence.

Yeah, they definitely need metal screens while they're closed.. They'd have them here..

Saying that, you could probably drive through one of those? I've never tried!
