maybe i'm wrong, but when i was last in an applestore..i thought these devices were locked to the table. now it looked like they yanked these things pretty hard, but assuming there were locks on, that is somewhat amazing, so i am assuming they werent locked.

All it takes (for the computers at least) is a fresh install of OS X, and they won't be phoning home. If they have any brains, they won't let them connect to the internet until they reinstall OS X.

The phones are a different story though. Apple will find those the second they connect to AT&T's network. AT&T surely will track them for Apple.

Don

I don't think their plan is to open 20 iphones and plug them all into itunes. They're going on eBay.....

This apple store is my primary apple store and i live about 15 minutes away. This is kindof creepy. If you have any questions about the store you can ask me.

Forget smash and grab, I still dream of playing with the big Tonka trucks and would like to take Big Foot for a spin through one of the Apple Stores.

I think the most pathetic part was the newscaster sensationalizing the robbery. Seriously, it sounded like a track race.

He sounded like a pompous jerk. I can't believe more people aren't laughing at him. Who talks like that anymore?

It was the first thing I noticed about this story!

He's obviously a "PC." You could almost hear him grinning through the voiceover while playing Minesweeper on his beige box running Windows Vista SP1.

The "armed security guard" should be fired and get a nice bill.
The entire reason for having armed security is that they shoot bad guys plain and simple.

The security guard is NOT there to shoot anyone for burglarizing the store. If there is no immanent threat to life present, then there is NO justification to shoot, “plain and simple”.

Even so, AT&T or Apple can block the IMEI numbers - making the phones eternally useless. Even the world's greatest jailbreaker would have trouble activating them.

I am glad someone said it... unlike the common misconception a security guard is not there to secure anything. They are there as a deterrent and to observe and report. They are there in case they catch these people to testify in court. I know this because I have had a guard card (license for security guards) in several states. And if you are a armed security guard you are not to use your weapon unless your life is in eminent danger. As his was clearly not, if he would have been armed and shot them, he would be arrested for murder. All though I do not agree with this, it is the law.

Voice Over...

no one is going to comment on that horrid voice over on the video??

Some of the highlights...

“watch as the thieves show skilled practice at bringing down that plate glass door”

Skilled practice? They threw a FREAKING ROCK THRU IT!! this is now a skilled practice? (that’s an Olympic event right? The 1 yard glass breaking competition)

“And savy enough to wear masks, knowing there were security cameras”

Damn, those guys are SAVY! Security cameras have only been around for like 30 years now. They must have planned ahead.. I would have never thought that a high end retail store would have a security camera.

and isnt covering your face in the burglary 101 handbook??

Can you say....

Can you say....

"Find my iPhone"?*

Muahahahaha
I guess MobileMe is actually worthwhile!!!

*(sorry if this was posted before)

They'll get caught

They will get caught, probabl trying to sell them on eBay. I just sold my MBP and someone asked me what my serial number was. After I gave it to them I never heard from them again. I never thought much of it but as someone posted a few back, prob. someone at Apple checking eBay/Craigslist and thought to check my serial number.

Hopefully they get these guys. They will talk, all criminals talk and boast, it's just someone who hears it has to be willing to turn them in.

i bet you anything they actually planned this hole thing. i mean like actually running it through their heads:

Maybe this is wake up call for Apple to display more iMacs and MacPros.

Did anyone catch that not a single desktop machine or monitor was taken. That's because they're not easily carried.

I defy those guys to get out of the store with more than one MacPro each in 31 seconds! ;)

"Find my iPhone" converts into "Find the Thieves"

*Super Effective*

Just watch these thieves get caught. I'm sure by now Apple has the "Find my iPhone" feature beaming down their current location.

They should have waited until next week--there may be updates.

I guess they don't follow Macrumors

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A400 Safari/528.16)

That is a lot of stuff really quickly. This stinks that it happened. I'm glad that it seems like no one was hurt.
