The keys are all modular they should be able to just fix that one key if not there's something else going on

Just got my 1.3Ghz and also have an issue with the keyboard. The return key only registers when you hit it dead center, when you hit it it on any other spot it does not register and gets stuck, it takes about 2 seconds before it pops back up. My wife's rMB is perfect and has no problem at all. Calling the Apple store tomorrow morning, hopefully they can replace it as well, don't want to wait another 4-6 weeks for a replacement. :/

my "delete" key just stopped working on the entire left side. Not stopped working, but is actually stuck/slightly sunk in the lower left side. blah!

I am going today. If they tell me 4-6 weeks, I plan on buying a mac using it until the new one comes.

Just an update on my "delete" key problem. I made a genius appointment, and it was the best experience I could have asked for.

A little back story. I purchased the macbook at bestbuy. It is the base 1.1/256. Well they no longer have any stock, so I would have to wait for a replacement.

I go to my genius bar appointment and they do not have stock, at least of the base model. They do however have stock of the 1.2/512. They got 1 in literally 5 minutes before I walked in.

They do a no receipt return and take my base 1.1/256 and I walk out with a 1.2/512. The other good thing is during my initial purchase at bestbuy I had $500 in rewards and also used the movers coupon.

I really lucked out on this one, and it could not have been a better experience. If they did not have stock, they were willing to order me one online and let me keep my current macbook until the new one came in.

That's pretty interesting. I didn't think you could return at an Apple store unless you bought there or online. Was this an exception due to the bad keyboard?

I think so. It was a hardware defect that would have been covered under AppleCare. Since bestbuy didn't have stock and apple did not either. They let me upgrade and actually change colors (from silver to space gray) b.c that is all they had.

There is no chance they would have done a return

My replacement is on the way,.. another 4-6 weeks. Very disappointed with the service. If I order a new one through the site the delivery time is 3-5 weeks, but apparently they put replacement units totally in the back of the queue.

Wow, that sucks. I've only seen you and another person report the keyboard issue. Seems to not be very widespread.

Not! My replacement status was the same with 4-6 weeks. After 1 day it changed to 1-2 week and today is the order on preparing for shipment. Called Apple on Monday afternoon.

Had a problem with the esc key

@No-Me

Do you have to send the old one back first, or will Apple ship the new one first?

They made an exception to pick it up after the new one is in, so that's something, but can only use it with an external keyboard.

I hope that my order will change, but they said they really couldn't do it any faster, so I would be surprised if it does.

Is anyone else's 'up' key not entirely level with the rest of the keys? I find the bottom edge recesses into the laptop more than the other keys, but when I pry the key off, the butterfly mechanism looks fine. I don't have this issue with the 'down' key.

It's not a deal breaker... just a slight annoyance as it feels a bit 'squishier' than the other keys.

That is how my delete key was. The bottom left corner was recessed. If it was the bottom right corner I could have lived with it. I actually push the delete button in the bottom left though.

Anything new with your replacement?

How did you pry off your key? You made me want to do that...

I really love the new keyboard-- except for the "H" key.

Every other key works great, but the "H" doesn't register when I press it on the corners. I have to hit it right in the middle. Every other key, I can press the corner and it registers.

Is this a problem in general, or is it just my MacBook and I should return it for a new one?

Thanks!

Sounds like the H key is defective.

Wut. They basically upgraded you to 512 for free?

I paid the difference between the 1.1/256 and the 1.2/512 ($300), but since I bought it from best buy originally with $500+ in rewards and the movers coupon I still made out good.

I was just excited they took a bestbuy purchased mac back and let me pay the difference. That is pretty unheard-of.

It improved a bit, now ships in 1-2 weeks so I hopefully it will be shipped somewhere in the end of the week.

New Update

it looks like a widespread issue to me. not everyone, of course, but an unlucky few are running into it. if something like this guy reports happened to me during a business trip, i'd be in quite a bind.

i'm going to try the rmb out in a store next week, but i'm guessing i'll end up with a 13" rmbp. i don't know yet, because i'd like to see them side by side, but i'm hesitant to get a first generation apple anything. these quirks / defects / bugs seem common in new products (understandably).

I just returned my second replacement, all my keyboards had problems, the fourth MacBook is on the way.
This is insane.
