Yeah, I had the same issue on my down arrow key when I got my rMB. 2 weeks into waiting for my replacement and still showing 3-5 weeks for shipping the replacement even though they SWORE to men when I returned it that I wouldn't have to wait even CLOSE to that long.

With my first replacement it took forever to be updated, with the second and now the third they expedited it the same day as they set up the replacement. It changed to shipping in 1-2 weeks. Quite annoying that they can't expedite it even more.

Well, my third MacBook is being returned - keyboard issues again, this time an intermittently working 'ESC' key (depending on where you press it).

I was assured that my replacement will be dispatched on UPS's receipt of my faulty one, so we'll see if I fare any better with my fourth.

Guys, I have this problem since today, after more than a month... Will Apple exchange my unit or repair it? It's my work computer, it's kind of a big deal for me...
Thanks

Edit: When you guys are waiting on replacement unit, do you keep your current one?

No, my replacement was 'actioned' as soon as UPS picked up my faulty one. My 'immediate' replacement is actually 1-2 weeks estimated delivery; still it's quicker than if I had to place a new order.

I would work on that one with Apple. Personally I have no experience, however I have read same across the forum. Speak with them, express your concerns, be clam & polite and ensure is clearly conveyed that you are not be able to work effectively due to hardware issue and the loss of the Notebook will serious impact your ability to meet your work comments, if you don't get the answer you want, request to escalate.

Am sure others who have been through similar situations can advise far better.

Thanks for the answer. I will go to the AS around 12 as Genius appointments are not before 1 week...

I was assured of the same thing when I returned mine because the down key didn't work. 2.5 weeks later and it's still "Processing" and showing 3-5 week wait for shipping. The support people keep telling me they have no idea why it's not getting priority and they have no way of forcing it. Terribly frustrating.

To me it`s not an unreasonable request, a PC is not a toy for many, nor do all have the luxury of a secondary system, although I do recommend the investment, as in the event of failure it may save you far more than the initial outlay.

Okay so topcase is ordered (4 days), it's a repair (the computer is 40 days old so they refuse to exchange the computer after more than 15 days). Repair would take 3 days but because I have a joint venture they will do the same day. So I will probably drop the computer on Monday morning and get it back on the evening... This is a major flow in the conception of this keyboard: I found 4 different threads on the Apple Discussions. The genius told me that it will be the first Macbook to be repaired @ AS Cap3000 so it will take a lot more time than any other computer as they have to learn how to change parts... So pissed.

Yep, equally your not going to suffer any major downtime, I know it sucks, end of the day it`s a mass produced product and Apple are far from being infallible, unfortunately this one has fallen on you.

n.b. I would take a few pictures before you drop off, might save some heartache later, just saying. Apple should have you sign of on the physical condition of the Notebook prior to service. Prepare for the worst, and hope for the best :apple:

Yep I know... I actually am an Apple Consultant in France :)
And "funny" fact, my last MacBook Pro Retina 13 had 3 keaboard change as the motherboard was faulty but they were thinking that it was the topcase + keyboard...

It sounds like it missed the prioritisation step - whatever that it - as mine initially showed the current standard 3-5 weeks and then went to 1-2 weeks following pick-up by UPS.

Tbh, if the expected delivery was the same 3-5 weeks as a new order, I would have got a refund rather than a replacement and re-ordered, especially since I've already paid for it.

I've spoken to a manager twice now (one week in and two weeks in) and both said that the prioritization (exactly how they both phrased it) was correct. It just wasn't clearing out of the queue. I'm beyond frustrated, but nothing I can do about it at this point. Would have just had it repaired if I'd have thought it would take this long.

Send a mail to Tim Cook the exec team should pick up on it, be calm and document your issues clearly. It`s poor that Apple are churning out the rMB and some are clearly not up to standard we expect let alone functional...

I would also mail to Apple support, waiting 3-5 weeks for something you have already paid for is a bad joke at best.

^Plus if you still get no joy, just cancel your order and get a refund. Ok, you'll have to start a new order again, but as Queen6 stated, at least you're not waiting 3-5 weeks for something you've already paid for. If it wasn't for that fact that it appears I'll be getting my replacement much quicker, that's exactly what I would have done.

If this replacement isn't up to scratch an email to Tim Cook would be my next step; Apple need to be aware of these issues in order to rectify them.

I think I wrote earlier that I was really nervous about the keyboard, and expected that I would buy a 13" rmbp instead in order to play it safe. Once I used the rmbp, though, I completely forgot about the rmbp. This thing is perfect for my use case, and I haven't had any issues with the keyboard.

I read all of the major reviews, watched the videos, and read the forums. I thought I would probably hate the keyboard, because I am pretty sensitive about such things (I basically write for a living). No worries. I loved it the moment I started using it. This is a beautifully designed machine.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are units out there with QA problems, and I encourage users to check theirs out in the store before taking it home (I did), but there are plenty of computers out there that are performing perfectly (knock on wood) as well.

When I watched the keynote, I thought the rmbp was the revolutionary device that stole the show, but the press kind of passed it over for the watch (tried that out, but it isn't for me -- maybe I'll try again with the next iteration). I still think this computer is being under-reported, and people don't realize yet just how amazing this is. If you get a bad keyboard, I recommend sticking with it until you get a good one, because it's worth the wait.

Hey guys, I'm the OP who originally had this issue and got my Macbook replaced.

I just got back from the Apple Store. My replacement Macbook ended up getting the same problem, this time a defective "2" key. Not good!

I told the Genius that I would accept another replacement but that it would be my *third* Macbook and that I was disappointed with the product overall. He offered to exchange it for a brand new 2015 13" Macbook Pro. I accepted.

This seems to be a fairly widespread issue with the new keyboard. Kind of a bummer.

For me, I loved the Macbook. But I wasn't willing to continue making trips to the Apple Store for the same issue over and over again. I'm happy with the new Pro that I'm typing on now. Hopefully the next version of the Macbook will be improved with regards to the keyboard.

UGH, that's really not good to hear, Matt. I'm now 3 full weeks into waiting for my replacement and will definitely not be pleased if that keyboard also has an issue.

They are exchanging them vs. trying to do a repair. I was lucky enough to return mine to an apple store that actually had stock. If they did not have stock, they were willing to let me keep using mine until the new one came.

yikes. Fortunately, my new one is going strong after 3-4 weeks. I religiously check the keys.

I've had the same problem with mine with the period key. It doesn't seem to sit correctly — the top left corner is constantly pressed in a little bit. Because of this, if I don't hit the middle to right side of the key, it will not register. Or I have to hit the key significantly harder than any of the other keys. I purchased this machine as an open box item at Best Buy. I hope that doesn't somehow screw me over for getting the replacement under warranty.

That's the exact issue I had both time. I think you can still take it to the Apple Store under the warranty.
