I own one, however I was looking forward to the new keyboard and would have gladly bought one. 3rd party keyboards are all geared toward Windows. The Logitech set is garbage and is RF at that.

The same could hold true for the keyboard, however I use my number pad daily and appreciate the connivence. Whats more is that the new BT keyboard is more expensive (as is the wired) for less keyboard.

I don't necessarily care, I would have like the new one. But oh well, maybe I will give the wired version a shot if the keyboard feels good to type on. I didn't like the macbook all that much.

My beef is mostly that the keys themselves (the important ones) are smaller and the keyboard is overall looks very squished. I haven't typed many numbers in this "blog." But this right here was done on it:

7845793354133448945576699731755646676677641664675465416875454687544654546542132454354394343454324354354354543543543514354354355415189454735735741313438435431394767393473435435743699736743543673572774376737

And yes, while the keystrokes may be done on the "letter side," the number pad is more convenient. To each their own. I don't like it. And I won't buy it. End of story. Get back to converting PC people.

AMEN!

I think it could be lovely.

I've been looking for ages for a decent bluetooth mini-keyboard. All the ones I could find are maxi sizes.

The Happy Hacker one is nice but it's wired. I brought the old BT Apple keyboard, but returned it after a week as I didn't like the feel.

I never use the numberpad nowadays. I used to use it extensively for playing Angband and other dungeon crawlers but I'm trying to do less of that now :)

I have two of the famous IBM models aka "the best keyboard evar" but they're just too big and heavy now. I liked the ThinkPad keyboards, and I LOVE my powerbook keyboard (after disabling the caps lock key which i accidentally press all the time).

Only problem with the new Apple keyboard is it's a bit expensive - 50 quid yikes! RSI and body posture demands that I get it tho. Looking forwards to trying it out at Apple Regent Street soon.

Maybe they are indeed updating the mouse as well. I went to the mighty mouse page and clicked buy now. I got a message that said it was unavailable from the Apple Store. Is anybody else getting this message?

yea, I got this message too...strange they didn't announce it at the event though if it is going to see an update.

On another note...any chance of them releasing a different version of the bluetooth keyboard...My biggest issue with it is the placement of the arrow keys...seems a little small too, more like something you would see in a laptop.

From what I've read, the surface area of the top of the keys on the new keyboard is equal to that on the top of a key on a regular keyboard. The keys seem smaller because they aren't fat on the bottom like they have been historically. Therefore, the part of the key that you should care about isn't smaller at all, it's an illusion.

Link to the video.

Can you believe it? They have eliminated all 15 function keys. Now they are a series of dedicated keys instead of function keys that mean different things in different applications. Glad I jumped on the Refurb page and ordered an "old" Bluetooth keyboard while I still could.

Losing all the function keys is the dumbest thing I have ever seen Apple do.

PS: That new iMac commercial is really lame as well.

Everyone that is seriously film and video editing is using the number pad.

But then, on the other hand, they will most likely go for a wired one anyway.
For Final Cut Studio 2 You want a Bella Pro Series Keyboard 3.0 for Final Cut Pro.

I'll get them both and be plenty happy. I don't need no steenkin' numeric 10-key when I'm on my couch wirelessly Maccin' it.

Sorry, no dice.

I'd love to have a good couch keyboard, and the wireless BT is close, but not good enough. I want black keys and a TOUCHPAD. If the new keyboard had that, I'd buy two tomorrow.

i dont like that they took the apple logo off the command (is that what its called? i always get them mixed up) key

i like the new keyboard style. i always thought that the older apple keyboards had a mushy feeling when typing. i love my macbook's keyboard, so i might end up getting the new wireless keyboard and hook my macbook up to my tv

When I used a Macbook the keys were to far apart and not all that responsive, Apple hasn't made a great keyboard in a few years now.

A note on the use of the number pad by editors. They will not want this keyboard because they use special keycaps to identify all their key functions and at this point they don't look like they will fit on the new keyboard.
Also, on the big stages, very few people use their keyboard at all, but instead use very specialized user interfaces that function at a much higher level than a cheap keyboard. So, I still say I like the BT mini without the number pad, as there is no keyboard made by anyone that can replace a dedicated UI for film or sound editing and mixing.

Actually the last great keyboard that Apple made was the Apple Pro Keyboard. The one before the current white/clear Apple Keyboard with the rim around it. It had a foot on the bottom that allowed you to adjust the angle and it had the USB ports on the sides instead of the back. It first had black keys and then later had white keys. I don't know if anyone remembers or still has this keyboard, but they were really nice. I have a white Apple Keyboard that shipped with my iMac and it is fine, but the one right before it was even better.

The Apple logo on the command key is an old remaining remnant of the Apple II days. I remember when there was a closed apple on one side and an open apple on the other side. Certain commands were referred to as "open apple S" for example if you wanted to save something to your floppy drive. I am not that old...but I did use Apple IIe's in elementary and middle school. Anyone else remember these commands???:)

Also the Bella mentioned by the previous poster is the editor's and gamer's keyboard...it may be a little ugly, but it gets the job done.

My favorite minor addition to the wired keyboard is that the two usb ports are usb 2.0 ports. It now effectively acts as a mini use hub, which you can use to attach a ipod or backup hard drive, as well as a mouse.

It may be worth noting that the BT keyboard doesn't even have a numlock to have a quasi number pad like the notebook keyboards.

The function keys are there, but the type for them makes them hardly noticeable in the pictures.

Yeah that was a little conservative. Probably less that 1% use compared to the rest of the keyboard layout.

I have even better statistics that shows the POWER BUTTON on all desktop Macs are used than 0.0001% of the time. For an average product lifetime of 3 years the amount of time when the user's finger is in contact with the button is less than 1 hour!

Shall we remove that button too? Just make the Mac power on when it is on AC and off when it is disconnected.

OP I agree with you. I am not a fan of it at all. Time to stock up on the white pro keyboards.

Not a bad idea, but pass on the ac strip...I think the last time I turned off my Dual G5 was a few years ago when I bought it.
