Oh just wait till you try Swiftkey. It's amazing.

Okay okay, sounds like I'm going to be eating my words once I get going on swiftkey. Also, thanks for elaborating and I guess that makes sense to be excited about. I'll give 'em a test when it drops.

You 100% for sure are required to download an app to get a keyboard. A keyboard is an extension of an app. The development guidelines say it requires a container app. Not only that, but the app has to serve a purpose. Not just an empty app for the sake of just adding a keyboard. So there'll be a million new note-taking or reminder apps that will come with keyboards.

I'm more worried about Freemium Keyboards coming. I don't want advertising banners scrolling by while I type. Pop up Ads. IAPs. Hope that will not be the case but I'm sure it will. I think SwiftKey mentioned their version would be free with skins and such you could purchase inside the App. Ugh!

Something like having a free regular version and then skins that could be purchased through the app seems fairly reasonable. People still get the keyboard and then those who might want something different or more in some way can purchase it through the app without any of that interfering with those who are just using the regular version.

From my understanding most keyboards basically act as keyloggers, and try to use large sets of aggregate data to become more efficient long term.

If a website doesn't properly set things as secure fields then 3rd party fields could potentially capture.

For things like passwords, or credit card information though if what I understand is accurate then you will be put into the standard Apple Keyboard. The Apple Keyboard resides explicitly within your device.

The implication of the dialog I believe is more of a precaution. In general though the OS is suppose to try to handle those inquiries on it's own.

The way I understood it, keyboards are hard to definitively handle because they are mapping out what you are typing in based off of the space of the keyboard and try to determine what you are trying to type. This is a potential security hole.

The stuff I work in daily though doesn't really go into this area so it's possible I'm wrong.

I agree with this if it's done tactfully and not like most games these days. I don't want to be typing along in the free version and then an ad pops up that forces me to watch, moves the exit button around making it hard to hit, and asking to upgrade to the full version. Meanwhile, a clash of clans advertisement is blinking below the keyboard. If they offer a pay option without all of that, take my money.

That sure is a startling alert.

That's a normal kind of alert for every stupid ridiculous little app in Android. I just gave up and hoped for the best in Android days. Actually since I just ordered a new Android phone I guess I'm returning to hoping for the best.

simple things like the letter "ß" on my iPhone keyboard. the iPad has it, the iPhone doesnt and i always end up tapping the wrong thing on my iPhone

Just double checked you are able to type ß by tapping and holding on the s key, and the key must be in lower case mode.

Most importantly is to realize that 3rd party keyboards are not secure and should only be used for games ,texting or anything that has no security needs

Wont you be able to disable any and all permissions if you wish?

Personally, I'd trust the major developers like SwiftKey and TouchPal, although I'd admittedly be a bit cautious the average joe developer releasing a keyboard on the App Store.

I always type ss instead of ß and let the autocorrect do its magic, works fine for me. Just saying. ;)

When I had a droid, Swiftkey knew how I talk so well I rarely had to type out more than one or two words to complete an entire sentence.

Yes. And it got even better when they added the swipe feature.

Like batting1000 said earlier, I'd be willing to trust the big name developers since they have a reputation to uphold and more eyes watching them. But if some random person submitted a keyboard I would personally stay clear.

Also, add me into the group that's excited for SwiftKey. It was my favourite keyboard back when I was using Android. While the iOS keyboard has gotten smarter for me, it still doesn't compare to how good SwiftKey knew my typing style.

I'm actually more excited for interactive notifications than keyboards.

I went from iOS to Android m, back to iOS and can say that from Android what I missed most was the WiFi/BT toggles, keyboard swipe/auto word completion, and a little bigger screens.

For me the iPhone 6 and iOS 8 hopefully has all these now covered and I'll be happy.

As said the current iOS 7 keyboard isn't bad, but I'm bored (and jealous!) of tap tap tap, when there's so many other options out there now.

I agree some will just stay with tap tap tap and that's fine, but iOS 8 giving the option of swipe/auto completion is great I believe.

Still seems excessive. It should be as simple as you going to KEYBOARD in SETTINGS, then tapping "Buy More Keyboards". Then, you can manage your keyboards there.
Sounds good to me, logical and straightforward.

People are so scared of getting their identity stolen from their devices. Please don't. There are easier ways of doing that, like digging through people's trashcans. The people who do that are lazy as, and they're not going to make a keyboard application of any sort just to do that. And then people that are stupid enough to try and do that, aren't going to be given the time of day by any reputable blogger or website.

Stop reading permissions. They don't show up on the iOS App Store for a reason. If you don't like to be tracked, then get off the internet. Developers suffer so much from bad reviews accusing them of stealing people's information when all they want to know is how to improve their app.

Thy have to get permission to use your contacts in order for YOU, the user, to MAYBE recommend their app to your friends. But no, just because they added a little button for you to do that, you're going to scream that they're invading your privacy and selling your information.

People choose to read and interpret things the way they want to, yet they don't bother to read the ****ing fine print that will help them understand what the heck is going on to begin with.

I wish people cared about their health as much.

I personally can't wait for SwiftKey. But I'm more excited about keyboards that will let us do custom shortcuts for long presses.

Good response. A little edgy but the point was made none the less. :)

LOL! Which keyboard are you eyeballing the most for iOS 8? Swiftkey?

I want something completely different. We have a bunch of crazy developers on iOS, I bet you there's going to be a lot of weird things coming our way. I'm totally installing SwiftKey on day one though. Not a fan of Fleksy. I'm hoping that maybe the guys who do TextExpander will come out with something considering that the majority of the apps I use have their APIs.
