Yeah absolutely that Apple had some design input on this. It's silly and pretentious given that Apple Music is nowhere near as synonymous with streaming music as iTunes was with MP3 downloads back in the day.

I'm surprised they didn't include a QR code that would take the person to the album page so they can play the previews for all the tracks. Gives the reader an opportunity to investigate right from their iPhone.

Look at all that clear space around the album cover. Missed opportunity IMO.

I find it hard to understand why so many cheap people are coming to a site dedicated to Apple.

This isn't about cheap?

It's about value. Specifically, what people value.

And, when it comes to music, most people put a much higher value on... the music.

Much like the Crush ad, this just misses the mark on what most people actually value.

Apple could have used this same partnership to create a book/music collection, that would have had real value to people who love music, like Steve Jobs did.

They could have partnered on this book, and released a limited edition iPod Classic preloaded with all these albums. They could have been available as a package or separately.

They could have partnered with the publisher and the music labels on a collection of limited edition LPs and CDs of all of these albums... Then sell a display that would combine them in a visually stunning way.

That would be closer to what many would have expected an Apple/Assouline partnership/book to be.

And, yes, it would have cost a lot more.

But, even at that higher cost, it would have had much more real value.

Yes, yes, there are people that love coffee table books. Food books, fashion books, travel books... Of course this book is targeting that market, and not most people on this forum.

But, this book is supposed to be about the music. And, this book is missing.. the music.

Will people buy this book? Sure. People buy cars then never drive them too. Most of us refer to them as idiots. Cars are meant to be driven.

Music is made to be listed to.

I'm reminded of a Lewis Black album, where he's talking about MTV. "MTV is video, and where does video go? YOUR EYE! Music goes in your EAR! EAR/EYE, EYE/EAR, big f&^% difference!"

This isn't really all that complicated.

Again, the target market will eat this up.

But, I think that says a lot more about them, then it does about people on this forum who see very little real value for the money.

Is Apple a luxury products company, or not? They partner with them often enough. Apple certainly isn't known for selling cheap products, but this kind of thing doesn't help the public perception that their products are way overpriced or only for rich people.

I guess the sector of society you mean is "people with a lot of money."

I don't think that is a perception they want to get away from. They don't want to appear cheap or entry level - they want to appear desirable, classy and aspirational. Having the perception of being over priced (and I really don't think they are) hasn't hurt them for the last 25 years.

But yes luxury coffee table books are aimed at people who have above average income I would say. Though I bought the original large size Apple book - and after 18 months sold it for four times the price I paid so, it could also be seen as investing (not so much this one though I doubt).
