Just checked my order status for iMac silver 16Gb/1TB order - First said shipping within 2-3 weeks and while ordering 21 - 28 may, order status now specifically says; it will be delivered 28 may.
I ordered Silver 16/512 and mine still says delivers May 21-27

My issue is that if I'm going to be buying $1000+ worth of new equipment, $50 trade in isn't going to sway me. it wouldn't even save me the tax
Also being lowballed by over $200 for a device Apple was selling it for refurbished isn’t a great feeling.

well after thinking about it I canceled my 11" 2tb order. The only thing wrong with my 2018 11" is that its 128gb and I'm starting to run low on space during updates and all. I decided I can wait on the inevitable time when the 11 inch pro gets the new screen to justify the money, plus I just might spring for a 16' MacBook Pro if it gets the M2 this year, I bought a low end Pro with the M1 this year and love it but am wishing I stepped up to a model with more ram and the larger screen would be Nice. so in the end my only order is a Apple TV 4K and extra remote.

I'm wondering whether the Apple Stores will have these available for in-store pickup on May 21.

what's the rational behind purchasing an iMac vs the MacBook air?

with the same configuration of ram and disk space the macbook air is approx. $450 cheaper. And for that 450 you only gain a bigger screen? Am I missing something?

Nope. That’s how I felt when they offered me 949 dollars for a spec’d out MacBook I paid 1900 dollars for not three months earlier, that they would turn around and sell for 1649 on the refurb store. Apple trade ins can be quite the BS depending on the device you’re trading in.

Nope, functionally it’s a bad trade off. You could buy a decent 400 dollar 4K monitor and effectively have the same functionality but gain the ability to take your computer with you. I know you also have to factor in a keyboard and mouse/trackpad but some people already own those or could get them much cheaper on the second hand market. I think really the only draw for going with an iMac over a MacBook is the looks and simplicity, which if we are being honest is the vast majority of Apple users. This thing will sell like hot cakes.

Ordered the 12.9 WiFi Space Gray in 1TB this morning when it first went live and I'm at a delivery date of June 2 to June 9 so release date went quickly it looks like.

I love how though that my Apple Pencil and Smart Folio Case on the same order are going to be delivered on May 3rd and May 5th. haha

They’ll sell at least as well as the old ones. That’s is to say, they still won’t break 20% of all Macs sold in a year. The vast majority of Apple users prefer their mobile solutions.

Except most "4K" monitors are only 3840x2160 even at 27" while the iMac has a 4480x2520 screen at 23.5".

  1. A much bigger screen with many more pixels compared to the Air. Bigger included screen = higher cost.
    1. When comparing iMac to other displays for sale, I'd assume this should look better than a run of the mill 4K display based on historic iMac display quality. Yes, many consumers are okay pay a little bit more for better pixel density, good colour range and bonus things features like True Tone. Generally dongles are also needed for an external display, unless you can get a low cost Thunderbolt Display. (Which adds a bit to the cost.)
    2. This setup lets one drive two big displays vs. a small 13" one and a big one for day-to-day work, if that's someone's desired setup.
  2. 1080p webcam (compared to the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro's 720p)
  3. Much better speaker setup, especially bass. Seems like it would be enjoyable to watch a movie on the new iMac. – even going into the MacBook Pro over Air there's quite an improvement jump.
  4. Microphone quality – probably a minor differenced, but I find my iMacs mic setup better than my MacBook's so assume that holds true
  5. Thermals: with a fan it'll handle a bit more than an Air for heavier loads. Presumably they've throttled things comparably to the Mac Mini here.
  6. A very predictable, thin footprint: if a user will dock to a bigger display for their day-to-day work anyway, then there will less wires and extra stuff laying around the desk. It is a nice, simple, clean setup. Plus it looks snazzy sitting there.
Reference, screen specs:
24-inch 4.5K Retina display (Actual diagonal screen size is 23.5 in)
  • 4480-by-2520 resolution at 218 pixels per inch with support for 1 billion colors
  • 500 nits brightness
  • Wide color (P3)
  • True Tone technology
13.3-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit display with IPS technology; support for millions of colours

Supported scaled resolutions:
  • 2560-by-1600 native resolution at 227 pixels per inch
  • 400 nits brightness
  • Wide colour (P3)
  • True Tone technology

Anyway this isn't to troll or fanboi, but I honestly don't see why people feel these are such a value rip-off. You get a lot of incremental value, including a very nice display, for that extra cost. If some of this value isn't applicable to the user – like no need for an included webcam or quality integrated speakers – or they have more mobile-centric use cases, then that consumer is welcome to pick another product (Mini, Air) which is best suited to their specific needs and personally perceived product value.

Dude. You have old ideas about how much RAM you need. The SOC of the M1 is a paradigm change and a significant advance. 16GB is more than enough.
Adobe Creative Cloud called and would like a word with you.
Google Chrome called and would like to have a word with you.

Some of us can't get around using Google Chrome or Adobe Creative Cloud for work. I do web design and development. I usually skate by ok on 32GB of RAM on my 16" MacBook Pro, especially since I don't go as hard on that device. I put 64GB in my 5K iMac which runs multiple displays and does a lot of multitasking. I mainly did that because it was inexpensive to do so and I planned on keeping it for a long time. I doubt I need more than 48GB.

SoC doesn't matter when it comes to application memory aside from loading things more quickly in and out. A faster SSD is good for swap and that's probably the thing that would help the most outside of more RAM itself. My MBP is just barely slower than the M1 in multicore (although I believe the GPU is a lot faster) and my 5K iMac is quite a bit faster so I doubt the SoC is going to be a significant difference. Sure I think Intel sucks by comparison, especially once the Pro level M chips come out, but it's just a weird thing to say that because the SoC is fast, that some people might not need more RAM. You do know that video editors often use 128GB, right? When you're editing 12K RAW footage it kinda sucks RAM and you need to keep a lot of it loaded at once so you can quickly scrub, even at quarter resolution. But I guess those people are waiting for the iMac Pro if they don't already have a Mac Pro.

Not working.

Apple Store on iPhone is not letting me add to bag.
Apple Store in Safari on the Mac, is letting me click through and pick options, add to bag, review bag ... : your bag is empty.

Sigh.
I ordered an 11” Pro through Verizon. has to spend over half an hour in the phone. As my credit card has a different billing address than my Verizon account. No problems selecting the item though.

Bigger and brighter screen, more usb ports, Ethernet, better camera, atmos sound, subwoofer, better mics

Wow really?
I guess inwas very lucky. I had an engraved pencil 2 in my cart and I had the iPad on my wishlist.
I opened the website on my phone at exactly 14:00 (Amsterdam time) and was able to order without a single hiccup or problem.
I literally thought, this is very smooth. Maybe the iPad is not really as popular as I thought.
But you convinced me it is in high demand.
Don't know about the iPad, ordered the iMac through the website and it was a mess, website didn't offer any order option until 14:02 and by then delivery dates started shifting.

Delivery was set to June 4th so canceled my order, might as well wait for WWDC.

Ordered 8gb/256 iMac in orange, the 12.9in 128 gb iPad Pro in space grey and three AppleTv 4K. I ordered early on Friday morning (4/30) so I have a delivery window from May 21-28 for all of it.

Does anybody know how Best Buy ships the iPad?

For example, I think Apple usually ships direct from China (?) for release-day shipments but how does Best Buy work?
I've received an e-mail saying my iPad will ship by May 21st but I'm wondering if that's slower then ordering directly from Apple?

That orange looks awesome! Enjoy when it comes!
