2 trillion dollar company and they can't even get their order page / function to work on launch day.
Considering the speed at which delivery dates changed during the order process my guess is they where overrun from minute one. Started ordering the second it was possible and within two steps the delivery went from may 8 to june 4

Wow really?
I guess inwas very lucky. I had an engraved pencil 2 in my cart and I had the iPad on my wishlist.
I opened the website on my phone at exactly 14:00 (Amsterdam time) and was able to order without a single hiccup or problem.
I literally thought, this is very smooth. Maybe the iPad is not really as popular as I thought.
But you convinced me it is in high demand.

Same. Ordered as quickly as I could and still got June 1st - 8th for an iMac. The site overloaded issues added a few minutes to complete the order successfully.

I started off ordering 1 Apple TV , since I have a new oled tv that needs one. Decided not to replace my existing 4k’s just not enough there to justify, in nany respects it’s a step back. Then ordered the 12.9 with 2 tb, quickly cancelled it’s just too big, my pro is a 2018 11 inch I love it, it’s just too small at 128gb, so I ordered the 2 tb 11” traded my existing pro for $500

Amazed at the numbers of iPad Pro's ordered in the group here, figured it would be split 50 / 50 with the new iMac but wasn't even close.

seems like everyone is after the 12.9. 11” 1Tb still showing 5/21-5/27 ship date.

I dont know how y’all carry those behemoths around. 🤣
You really don't notice the weight once you've been using them for a while. I only noticed the heft when mine bit it and I picked up an Air to replace it.

I had all the same "empty cart" problems and had to order things one at a time, but got 2 apple TVs, the ipad pro, the magic keyboard and a pencil. Now, I offset the price by selling my 11 inch (w/pencil and magic keyboard) to my gf for $800! Keyboard and pencil will be here next week...everything else says May 21-27th.

These slipping delivery dates have me wondering: do folks believe that Apple stores will sit empty of stock while these ordered devices are shipping, or would you actually do better by simply waiting until the end of May and walking into an Apple Store to buy what you want (knowing Apple will stock their own stores as a priority)?
Certain colors won’t be found in the Apple Stores for the iMac specifically. Don’t know exactly which ones, but, for that reason waiting until the end of May and walking into an Apple Store might not be the best idea :) Maybe other non-Apple stores will stock more colors?

beats the $70 for my iPad Air :p

not even worth the shipping to get that
Yeah, I kinda want to trade-in one of my old iPads, but, for the price Apple’s offering, I think I’d rather sell it to someone that would be glad to have it. The benefit of the Apple “solution” is only no muss, no fuss.

and haven't heard good things about some of the 3rd party companies Apple has contracted out to do these swaps. my trust in them isn't great.

if I were dealing with Apple directly I might consider it. but All the Apple stores are closed right now in my entire area

So a) I don't think it is true that Apple stocks their own stores as a priority. In fact a successful day of release strategy I often employ (pre covid) is NOT going to Apple but to a 3rd party store depending on what the product is and often avoid the lines at the Apple store.

b) Waiting for release day only really works for standard products. Apple does not carry the full range. And stock is limited, it can and does sell out on opening day and for the next few weeks. If you are flexible on what you want it goes easier. But there are usually lines and in the past you had to show up early. Its not as predictable these days with Covid.

c) Due to covid, or maybe this was always true to an extent, what I find to be a very successful opening day strategy is to actually order online at the apple store the day of release. They hold back their inventory from online orders until the day of. I have had good luck with 6 a.m. eastern.

anyway best of luck. I follow those strategies when I fail to secure release day shipping on order days like today. I place an order, often already pushed back by weeks, and then try to get on release day from the store. If successful I cancel the apple order. Today I got lucky on my orders. Well until my wife finds out.

Just checked my order status for iMac silver 16Gb/1TB order - First said shipping within 2-3 weeks and while ordering 21 - 28 may, order status now specifically says; it will be delivered 28 may.

I had no problem when I traded in iPhones.

I think the problems come in when people claim their product is "like new" but it's far from pristine. The trade-in companies downgrade the value of the offer and people get angry.

It's what I refer to as "eBay euphoria". Everybody thinks their item is worth way more than it actually is. Or, they describe their item as great shape then when you get it it's got all kinds of dents, knicks and scratches.

My issue is that if I'm going to be buying $1000+ worth of new equipment, $50 trade in isn't going to sway me. it wouldn't even save me the tax
