My dream MacBook Pro has an M6 Ultra with 1TB unified memory and 16TB storage. With the thinner design in the next version, and I don’t care about heat just about having more memory. Remove SD card slot and put in 4x TB5 slots! Eliminate the notch and just put a camera in small area above the display. Black with aluminum keys. $15k of perfection!

Have to say, an m5 ultra is more tempting vs an m5 max than a m3 ultra/m4 max for a lot of people, I'd guess.

No, it's really suggesting the Studio is getting updated soon, which we could kind of guess anyway, though this whole thing is at least a bit surprising.
We've known they almost certainly are launching soon, but this may mean the Studio is sooner than a few months out...maybe
Though the lack of a pro is surprising as we'd expect it to be listed in there, unless weirdly they keep selling an m4 pro, or only sell an m5 and m5 max in the macbook right now
I mean that was kind of the case with the M1 and M2. The CPU cores were identical, though everything else was different... The new Pro chip just being a binned Max chip would actually make a lot of sense, especially if the lack of M4 Ultra was because of yields.

What if they're releasing desktop Mac Studio, and not macbook pros? That could make sense. So expect a desktop release next week, maybe also with new Studio Display.
M5 Pro chip isn't there because M5 Pro Macs (14" and 16") will NOT be released. That's my interpretation. Maybe they'll skip until M6 in autumn.

Impossible....they barley work on mac studio with copper cooling....you cannot bend physics . So there are 0% chances

Let me ask you something. You, or anyone waiting for the next Mac mini.
What if there’s an M5 Mac mini on the next Mac announcement (likely next week with the OS 26.3 release) and, at the same time, we know the M6 gen is coming as soon as next fall? Like, in October. Would you wait?
I’m asking because I’m on that position. I’m waiting for the M5 Mac mini but it’s being said that the M6 gen is coming quite soon…
Unusually, it's breaking new ground. The MacBook Pro M5 doesn't have the M5 Pro or M5 Max chips. MaxStudio M5 Max and Ultra are released! I hope something comes out. We'll probably find out for sure next week.

Yeah agreed. The Pro chip being quite literally a chopped Max chip in the past would actually make the non-binned Pro chip more expensive to produce from a yield perspective. Maybe if the new 3D chip tech lets them make the CPU/GPU/memory more independently, then it makes sense to effectively run the same CPU/GPU in all silicon and then bin more aggressively to get the lower end, more affordable options. That’d also mean you could get lower end CPUs paired with higher end GPUs, as rumoured.
That’d also tie in really nicely with the update to apples configuration page from the other day, where there’s less focus on chip family and more on speccing out each individual component separately.

Samsung, who will be making the OLED screens for the rumoured redesigned MacBook Pro, are targeting Q4 delivery, so any upgraded MacBook Pro now will have short life. I’d be very surprised if Apple decided to redesign the MacBook Pro now to squeeze in the M5 ultra for a design that they ‘ll be replacing in less than a year.

The obvious explanation is that Apple has reached the limits of UltaFusion across 2 dies (hence last one was M3 Ultra, couldn't stretch up to M4), and is going back to a single die chip configuration. From a marketing perspective, that's M5 Max (the low end Pro chip) and M5 Ultra (the high end Pro chip), previously named Pro and Max respectively. So the Ultra moniker doesn't get dropped, but it's a Max under the bonnet.
The iOS 26.3 release candidate includes references to a pair of unreleased chips that are in the M5 family, according to information found by Nicolás Alvarez and shared with MacRumors.
The iOS 26.3 RC mentions two unreleased SoCs, T6051 and T6052, with associated H17C and H17D platform names. The 17 is a reference to the M5, as the standard M5 chip is numbered H17G. Typically, the "C" lettering is used with a Max chip, and the "D" lettering is used for Ultra chips. G is used for standard chips, and S is used for Pro chips.
When using Apple's past numbering and lettering as a reference, that would suggest an M5 Max and an M5 Ultra chip. There is no current reference to T6050 H17S, which is the chip identifier and platform name we'd expect for the M5 Pro.
Since we're currently waiting on new versions of the MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, the chip references located are a bit confusing. We have three possibilities: there's an M5 Pro chip along with an M5 Max and M5 Ultra chip and it's just not added to the iOS 26.3 code yet, Apple is changing its numbering, or Apple is planning for M5 Max and M5 Ultra MacBook Pro models.
Apple's past Max chips have all used "C" lettering, including the M1 Max (H13C), M2 Max (H14C), M3 Max (H15C/H15M), and M4 Max (H16C). There was also an M variant of the M3 Max for the 14-core chip, with Apple using C for the 16-core chip.
- Chip 1 in the beta: T6051, H17C. Presumably M5 Max.
- Chip 2 in the beta: T6052, H17D. Presumably M5 Ultra.
- Not in the beta: T6050, H17S. Chip identifier expected for M5 Pro.
Ultra chips have all used "D" lettering, including the M1 Ultra (H13D), M2 Ultra (H14D), and M3 Ultra (H15D). There was no M4 Ultra chip.
It's not clear why we are only seeing signs of an M5 Max and M5 Ultra chip, but rumors suggest that new MacBook Pro models with higher-end M5 chips are set to launch in the next few weeks. Apple is supposedly working on a Mac Studio in the M5 family, which would use an M5 Ultra chip, but we haven't heard rumors about an upcoming launch.

For the Mac Studio they will simply clock them faster than in the laptop, with higher power consumption and running hotter but with appropriate cooling.
And the Ultras as we have known them are gone...
Also, as unified memory doesn't work in a multi-socket configuration (the Intel/AMD approach) scaling up server side will be based on clustering multiple servers (as happens say with NVIDIA GPUs), hence the recent improvements in macOS 26 to support more effective ThunderBolt 5 clustering/distributed shared memory (reminds me of InfiniBand).

Looks like the M5-series will not see a massive power increasement in relation to the M4-series since they’re releasing an M5 Ultra chip.
