yeah, I noticed that too. This gives all the people who will point out that the Mac has had 2 colds (fine, use "viruses" if you must) last year.
But I'm willing to bet that that wont stop those dirty peecee users.

I figured they would want to let the style of our computers sell themselves. I'm not sure what I think of this yet, but first impressions aren't the best. BUT, we aren't the target market here. Obviously.

the idea is faulty logic. also, if more share meant more attacks, apache would be the most attacked web server. but MS's IIS is. it is that simple. bad software gets hit, even with just a few copies running, secure stuff will also get attacked, yes, but far far less.
That's not really the same deal as that's quite a different environment then a home desktop system. I also NEVER said that the ONLY reason viruses weren't written for OS X was because of the low market share, I just said that it's definitely helped keep people from bothering.

Also, saying "We have 5% of the market share so we should have 5% of the viruses," doesn't make sense. Attacking Windows is much more profitable/enjoyable for viruses writers as it's a huge base that can potentially be infected.

As well, just so people aren't so smug about this: I have a friend who wrote a program in REALBasic that silently uploaded files off of the user's computer who ran it. The user running it is completely unaware and is NOT asked for their password. It shows that such things are easily possible as this could be used to steal information, which is somewhat virus/malware like.

WoW I wasn't expecting that much hits in like..an hour

Hey guys sorry but I'm at my limit. I've helped you so far now the people with youtube and google need to pick up the slack. I got the videos for you but nothing more I can do, except buy more bandwidth, which I don't really feel like doing.

Sorry.

Haha Brian. I told you. Good thing people got YouTube and Google links up! Thanks again.

I give the virus video a 4 out of 10. Pretty unoriginal and just rehashes the old "Mac's are better than PC's" theme. I was hoping for something more creative, like the original iPod videos.

I really dislike advertisements that tell you why the competition is so bad. If you have a product that is great, I think that you should concentrate on why it is great.

The WSJ one was a little more creative and original. I chuckled a little, but it wasn't anything great. I'll give it a 6 ouy of 10.

I liked the ads. Bringing back some of that '90s feistiness is something I've been waiting for, and it was done in a pretty new way (at least for people who don't spend their free time watching old Apple ads like more than a few people here do ;) )

For the people concerned about it just saying "Mac", note the Apple logo. It speaks for itself. The logo has ended virtually every iPod ad that's played in the last five years. People understand what the Apple means.

Dude, you do realize that anyone can write a malicious application, right? That is trivial. But the user needs to run it. What separates that from a virus/trojan/worm/etc. is that you can unknowingly receive it from the internet and have it execute (and usually have itself spread to other machines). Any computer can be a victim of malware if the user doesn't take some responsibility to not go downloading and running random applications from questionable sources.

I'd much rather a Mac and a PC talk to each other... NOT humans. It just doesn't make any sense that way. The idea was great, the execution was crap.

didn't they have a pc and a mac talk to each other a while ago in some magazine ads a while ago?

awesome.. was it called transmit?

anyone can write a malicious program. if you are dumb enough to download and install an unknown app.... and then run it... then you deserve what you get. now... get that to self propagate, install without user intervention, and then you may have a virus. :D

Talking about Mossberg is the commercial...

Okay, it's official! Steve Jobs needs to go marry Walt Mossberg and have mad donkey sex with him. For some reason Jobs raves about Mossberg in whatever he is doing. He is the only guy Jobs will grant an interview to at 3 in the morning. Here's how it works: Walt Mossberg gets every new Apple product plus $50,000.00 or $100,000.00/year from Apple and Mossberg writes about everything Mac and Apple and raves about all of it.

Seriously, I used to like Mossberg and I will always like Steve Jobs, but this is out of freakin' hand!

well, if you have boot camp? if you dualboot linux even on a ppc mac, you can get viruses. hackers can still get access to your root directory if you're on apache and not careful.

It's a tough call. The reason Windows keeps selling to consumers so universally is largely because people assume there could be no other choice. Positive and negative messages might both play a role in challenging that. I see the ads as working towards a tricky shift in thinking--making people think maybe they should consider something different. That's different from the "buy me now" type of ad.

Also, what WE tech-savvy, Mac-savvy people think isn't actually important to the success of the ads. I wonder what the masses of NON-savvy PC buyers will think, as they mull their next system purchase? Will this message be a useful part of Apple's campaign? Will it make people visit Apple.com or an Apple Store, where they can get a more direct and detailed message?

Yes, because the average user runs an open apache server on their machine...

well, if im such a n00b like everybody in the phoenix os thread says, im a prettyaverage user who does apache.

So it looks like these are the "Get A Mac" ads instead of "Switch" ads. Check out the little spot on their web site: http://www.apple.com/getamac.

Off topic: What the heck is up with Apple making these pages so wide!? Is it just me or is there not a 800px standard anymore? I don't like/want to browse the internet full screen. This must be for those Windows people. BTW their navigation bar up top doesn't even match any more. Time for a fixup.

wow

It's about time! Good to see the gloves come off, this is the only kind of advertising that really makes any sense to me. This is us, that is you, we're better. The actors were great also.
I love it.

17 inch macbook pros

OK, I should never talk on the phone when I'm typing. Meant to say the new cute ADS are up on the website. But I was really hoping they would be advertising the new macbooks. Guess I'll hang in there until June......
