It is clear Apple doesn't really have them yet. We could see them ship earlier if they get enough stock in. At this point this is what they are expecting. It could be bumped.

I imagine when they start getting tons of orders waiting to be filled they will try to push it up. :apple:

It gave me a delivery time of five friggin' weeks. Now, is that estimate "exact" or is apple just playing it safe? Is there a chance I could get it earlier?

Purely speculation on my part but I am guessing that Apple is being conservative.
I am thinking no more than 3 weeks.
It will be a pleasant surprise when it shows up even earlier.

Modified order to move up delivery

Ok, as long as you consider 3-5 weeks as ASAP, because that's how long you'll be waiting b/c of the 8800GT.

I appreciate the discussion and I've seen the light. Since the 8800GT is now available as a separate item I modified my order to use the 2600XT which brought the estimated ship down to 7-10 days. And as I see more 3rd parties showing the 800MHz memory I'm more confident that won't be an issue and went with the standard 2GB to bring the estimated shipping date to 3-5 business days. The separately ordered 8800GT is estimated to ship March 3rd. Machine sooner, graphics card later. That's a reasonable tradeoff for me. Next week I'll choose a 3rd party memory supplier.

By the way, I bought this machine with an ADC Select hardware discount and the developer rep on the phone was very helpful, modifying my order so the discount still applied (for the 800GT too), the AppleCare still covered the displays and without processing delays.

So, thanks all.

I just ordered the below.

2.8ghz 8 core
2gb ram
320gb HD
8800gt 512mb
Wifi
Apple Wireless Might Mouse

Estimated shipping is 3-5 weeks, but my Apple contact is going to see if he can push it through. (has done in these situations, but dont expect it anytime soon)

There is also the opportunity to cancel next tuesday and order the new MBP. I'll only do this if there is a 320gb HD option or 250gb @ 7200 rpm and it must have a 512mb graphics card.

We'll see what happens next week then.

I will be ordering mine next week.

I am considering the base model but with the AirPort Extreme card and Geforce 8800GT or the base model with the AirPort Extreme card.

I ordered the stock configuration + 2nd 2600 video card, and 10 GB of extra RAM from OWC. $3700 w/ overnight shipping from both Apple and OWC.

Just got back with my new standard 2.8ghz quad, it rocks!!!

I also ordered my 8800gt this morning.

I am pumped.
Dave

I'm conflicted, but I decided to go ahead with my order and not get the the graphics card separately. I've waited this long, I'll somehow manage another 5 weeks. It's worth the $120 to me.

The day has come! I've been waiting for almost a year for these kind of graphics cards to be available in a Mac... And 8 cores standard?! Mental Ray will probably be thanking me in a couple weeks. :)

Thanks to the developer connection, i got a little bit of a discount too...

Standard 2.8 GHz dual quad...
Standard 2 GB RAM
Geforce 8800 GT (finally I'll be able to play this Orange Box i got for christmas! it's about damn time!)

I'll be adding 4 GB of ram and 2 500 GB drives to software RAID for backups in the next coming months. I am so very very happy right now.

Unfortunately, I feel like this:

2.8 GHz 8-core
500 GB hard drive
Standard 2 GB memory
nVidia 8800GT
Airport Extreme
Standard keyboard & mouse
One year .Mac subscription

Also ordered extra 8GB from OWC for $399 in four 2GB modules, and I have an unused 1TB hard drive that I'll stick in.

Because the Mac Pro case design hasn't changed, I have a feeling that if Apple updates the cinema displays next week, their case will remain more or less the same.

After waiting for over a year for these new Mac Pros, and upgrading from my MDD Dual G4 1GHz, I just placed an order for:

Two 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon (8-core)
2GB (2 x 1GB)
320GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB (Two dual-link DVI)
AirPort Extreme card (Wi-Fi)
One 16x SuperDrive

I'll add another 4GB from OWC once a couple weeks pass and I see how the modules are working in the new machines. So psyched to get this thing set-up!!!

Going to order the standard 2.8 GHz dual quad this Saturday. Have to wait until then because my father works at a University and that's the best time for both of us to go into the Uni bookstore and order it with his educational discount. :D

I thought about getting the 8800GT option, but I hardly game anymore and if I really want to, I can just buy an off the shelf 8800GT and boot into Windows for gaming.

8 cores is too much for what i want so i went down to the single quad core 2.8 with 8800gt.

the 2.66ghz quad is an amazing machine, a 2.8ghz quad should be better.

Orange Box plays fine on a Radeon HD 2600 XT ... ;)

Just bought the base configuration and its spectacular! :)

Guy at the Apple store asked me what I'm going to do with it....almost wanted to say surf the internet and play solitaire... :p

mine

Two 3.0GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeo
4GB (4x1GB)
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB
320GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb
500GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb
One 16x SuperDrive
AirPort Extreme Card (Wi-Fi)
APPLE MIGHTY MOUSE
WIRED KYBRD/MAC OS X

Where are people buying extra RAM for cheaper?

Well I have broken down and ordered one, spec as follows:-

Two 3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
2GB (2x1GB)
2xATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB GDDR3
320GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
One 16x SuperDrive
AirPort Extreme Card (Wi-Fi)
Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse
Apple Wireless Keyboard & Mac OS

I couldnt be bothered to wait the 5 weeks for the Nvidia card so am hoping that the 2 ATI cards should power my 30" and 20" monitors with ease, if not they shall be put on ebay and the Nvidia 8800 ordered!

I shall be ordering more hard drives and memory for it, there is no way I am paying Apple prices for those.

Cant wait to get it!

Should be a tad quicker than my Powermac G5 dual 2.7!!

Do you want to trade for mine a "late '06" model?????:D

I had a job interview at Apple today so I have to wait till monday for the result. If I get the job then I will have a nice discount and will get my mac pro with 8800GT and 30" ACD +Airport+APP if not then I will buy the same configuration but for much more :(( (£3300). Wish me luck guys.
