based on reading of dwindling supply I expect it’s the M3 that will be discontinued. Specially since the M3 chip is more expensive to mfg than the M2. This also give a bigger jump in performance when you compare the two, so the competition between models will be less.

Why is the M3 more expensive than the M2 to manufacture? How do you know that? What is your source?

What to expect, hmm, I think perhaps the exact same machine with an M4 chip? And a sprinkling of marketing B.S. to make me buy it of course.

Expecting to see M4 on the new Air with a Center Stage camera and maybe a new colour option. Other than that everything else should be very much the same since the Unified memory has already been updated to 16.

Why even release an M4 MBA at this point? Just release the M5 MBA. The M4 is long in the tooth and the M5 will bring some real improvements for AI and GPU.
Using long in the tooth to describe a nine-month-old processor is an interesting take.

It’s really not, especially when the M5 is already in production and we have a strong chance of seeing new products packing it as early as May/June.
Also: the M4 iPad Pro was announced on May 7th. Today was March 3rd. That’s 4 days more than 2 months, not three.
And if it meant getting the brand new M5 instead of a close to a year old M4 while the rest of the Mac lineup gets bumped to the M5, I’d rather wait a couple months.
But hey, Apple gonna Apple.

The MacBook Air will likely be among the last products updated for a given processor family. The next processor will always just be a few months away. Hence, Air customers would be continuously waiting if they waited for the next chip update.

And that makes some sense. It seems a bit silly for someone to say they need the very latest, fastest processor but not go for the pro model.

Backlit iTouch bar at the top? Touch screen? 360 degree foldable to turn into a tablet? Wireless charging?

512gb of HD space for the starter Macbook plz.
256gb is a joke

I currently have a 2021 MacBook Pro 14” M1 Pro base model…would this new m4 air be more powerful in comparison?

Not when they travel for work like me, and go with an MBA over an MBP because the thinner, lighter chassis means more than a couple extra ports and better thermal performance. There isn’t a significant price difference between the two thanks to continual sales on Amazon, Costco and Best Buy, so ultimately it comes down to which form factor works better for your specific use case and your argument is meaningless.
Besides… if they can introduce the M4 with an iPad, they can debut the M5 in an MBA, just like they did the M1 in 2020 ;)

Tim is gonna surprise us with the Apple Vision Air and AirPods Air.
