Why does it still say item has not been released? Do you know how many days does it usually take Amazon toget stock?

WHAT!!! 200$ discount for students?????
Over here in ireland we get 60Euro educational discount :p

Since i'm way beyond school i bought my 13" base at amazon. 2 day free prime delivery, no tax and 12 months interest free. Cant beat that.

It's still showing up as pre-order.. I sent Amazon an email for the third time but they don't reply any date.. Strange thing is that on Friday stock appeared from another seller and then dissapearead..later Amazon detailed it would be available today but it's still available for preorder only.

after the $200 discount, it's cheaper from Apple for me
There is a $200 discount on the rMBP, but only $50 discount on the Airs (at least in the US). Where are you located?

Based on this, pricing on the base 13" Air for me is:

From Apple w/ Student Discount
$1149.00 + Tax $100.00
Total: $1249.00 + $100 iTunes card

From Amazon
Total: $1194.00

Technically cheaper from Apple, all things considered, if you were planning on spending an extra $100 with apple.

Yeah and personally, I would rather purchase from Apple directly than from Amazon. Besides, it isn't even available on Amazon yet.

I honestly rather purchase from Amazon than Apple (unless apple direct is cheaper) because Amazon will do a quick exchange no questions asked if you have an issue within the return timeframe, I can't say the same about Apple.

For those of you who can use the ed side on Apple, keep in mind the Applecare is $76 less regular price ($249 vs. $183) and the very valuable ONE TO ONE is NOT an option when purchasing your Mac from anyone else other than Apple.

Overall, a better deal from Apple IMHO.

Regarding the Best Buy deal, I had a bunch of BB GC's, took them to the store and purchased a loadable Visa 'Gift/Debit' Best Buy Card - good anywhere. I basically exchanged it for $5.95 - went to the Apple store and combined cards to get one Apple GC, to order on-line.

Don't think that Amazon sells those type of cards...Too bad. I used a bunch to buy my accessories and software for my new MBA.

Good luck everyone!

I actually just ordered my new MacBook air base 13" with 8gb of ram from bhphoto today! Being able to get AppleCare at half price was what convinced me to go with them, and I saved over $100 versus buying from apple. I didn't get the back to school gift card but I saved enough for it to be worth. I actually used that money to buy a nice leather case for it from Picasso lab :). It should all be here end of this week or early next, I can't wait!
