From online pictures, I think it looks alright - maybe it'll grow on me, but it definitely won't to the scale of actually wanting to buy one due to lack of firewire.

I rather like the new look. I was hoping for a white keyboard but with that black frame around the screen the black keys seem to work. Love it.

Bought a macbook a month ago and its already outdated!!!

Hi!

I'm new to this forum thing but I am so upset about my experience with mac that I need advice from people that seem to be experts in the mac world! So my story is that I bought a macbook (white 2.4 hertz, 4G, 13.3 inch) on sept. 14th and now it already outdated by the new macbook which I think looks incredible and if I had know that this little guy was coming out I would've returned my mac 2 weeks ago for a small fee and then I would've bought the new one... I called apple and I called the store and they said that if I would've called within the month they might have been able to help me but now that its past the month (3 days exactly) its too late... I said I wanted to speak to a manager so someone will be calling me but I don't know what to do I mean I love my macbook but its makes it so much less special now that the new one came out! And its only one month later I mean macbooks have been the same for the last 3 years so I thought I would've been safe buying it now... Anyways can someone put me out of my misery and tell me what to do! I guess I can hope for my mac to break and get a replacement, thank god for that 3 years warranty that I bought. What should I do: forget about fighting for it and accept that I still got a pretty good computer or fight for it till they give me what I want?

Aside from the pretty case design, your notebook will perform exactly like the new ones. Unless you really like the new design, I don't think there is a reason to get the new ones.

If your Mac breaks, you will get the exact same Mac as a replacement, if they even replace it. Normally they would merely repair it. Either way, you will not get the aluminum MB if your Mac breaks.

The major differences are in the looks/construction. Performance wise, it's similar aside from graphics.

If you really want to new MacBook, you can sell yours on eBay or Craigslist, just check out what the current prices there. The AppleCare extended warranty is tied to the machine, so it can be transferred to a new owner and is a positive addition to your sale.

Nothing wrong with your MacBook. It's still a good machine.

There will always be something newer and better. The buyer's guide here has said "don't buy- updates soon" for quite a while now.
If you don't do your research, you can't complain too much.

I think the new macbooks are hot. Oh well that the white is gone. I don't think many people would be happy if macs never progressed.

Time to move on.:)

i dont like the inside. They just made this new one to make money and not worth it. White is what symbolizes a Mac. REALLY, what were the major changes to the new Macbook??? The trackpad, a black keyboard, aluminum casing, and the NVDIA graphics for gamers??? And don't forget the downgrade to NO FIREWIRE. In what way does the NVDIA graphics help us non gamers?? PC is still gonna have a wider variety of games for an audience for gamers...

Now there are rumors of upgrades coming soon to the new Macbook. Doesn't anyone notice that Macbook purposely doesnt add stuff to their new Macbook so they can upgrade them later???? Im happy with the one i bought a few months ago...:)

one macbook i do wanna get is the black version of this one i got a couple months ago...

Aperture was painful on the old Macbook. Should at least be usable now.

I like the white, because it's unique.
Merriam-Webster : {Unique} said:
  • 1 - being the only one
  • 2 - being without a like or equal
  • 3 - distinctively characteristic
Yes, no one has done white before...

I get so mad when I use a PC because its sooooo slow and horrible.
Maybe, try a faster one? They do make fast PCs, you know.

Just like no one has done aluminum with a black keyboard before. As you know there are tons of PC's like that.
I'm not talking about the aluminum/black look. I very much like the new look of the laptops. But, he was saying that white was somehow unique to the MacBook. I was simply showing him that these days, that is hardly the case.

Thanks

Thanks for your replies... I guess I will checkout the prices on ebay or craig's list, that seems like a good idea thanks! I still love my mac and I think that its not such a huge deal I just don't like to think that I paid 2000$ a month ago for something that is outdated already! I'll see what they say when they call me back but for now I will prepare myself to accept my mac.

Thanks!

What might be ugly to one person might not be ugly to another.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

True. That said- the new MB is ugly in the eye of this beholder. ;)

Thank god they still make one plastic one. I bought the last rev BlackBook, and I daresay I'll be holding onto it until whoever is in the design department at Apple either stops smoking crack, or starts again.

have you fondled the new one? you may not like the looks, but the construction quality is undeniably nicer.

The new design is growing on me but I didn't like the look much first of all. I'd prefer an all-black version (if that's possible with the aluminium) or maybe another couple of colours. If I really want a new MB I'd probably get one anyway, but it would be nice if they offered a choice for the amount they cost...

Just look to the new Nano for what you can do with color. Aluminum is very easily colored by anodizing. They actually do this already on the MB and MBP, but they are just coloring it a bright silver. It gives a nice looking finish, that is "baked" into the metal, so to speak. So, the color is very durable and scratch resistant, unlike simply painting.

You could easily have a black anodized version though. Or red, orange, blue, purple....and so on. But, I would suspect that the extent of what we'll see would be Black, and maybe a (Product)RED version, but that's a long shot.

You might as well get used to it because a redesign isn't coming anytime soon

Well, that's too bad. At least I might still be able to buy a white one if I happen to need one. But my BlackBook isn't going anywhere for a very long time.

BTW- went to the store today to check them out. Wow- uglier than I thought. The screens on the MBP are biggest disappointment though- truly painful to look at. The MacBook itself? While uglier than sin, the graphics do seem to be better, and I liked the trackpad. But I kept expecting to see an HP or Dell logo on the computer. They've really screwed up aesthetically.
