it's not fair to compare new mb with old white plastic mb, since they are made of entirely different material. but people who think the new macbook pro is prettier than the old mbp has absolutely no taste.

also look at the new 24" display. it looks like garbage compared to the classic cinema display. it looks no different from the samsung lcd tv! WTF! :mad:

I never liked the look of the previous Pros. Even the power button looked out of place.

I like the lines of the new one much better.

even a thinkpad looks better than hybrid of silver & black, at least it's unicolor.

Unicolor =! better looking.

This new MacBook actually makes a statement, as opposed to the old MB Pro which, while undeniably elegant, are quite bland looking.

Yeah it makes a statement - "our designers have run out of ideas so we'll just copy everyone else".

Which other laptops look similar?

I posted a few images on the previous page. I can find more if you like, or alternatively you can visit your local computer store and look at all of the similar looking laptops they have on display.

I'm not debating anything about the choice of materials - that is certainly a cut above, as is the construction but the LOOK of the computer is a MASSIVE step backwards for Apple - the old MacBooks and the old MacBook Pro looked far, far better.

Strange. I always thought the power button looked awesome on the Pros. I was actually disappointed when I saw how much blander it is on the new version. Same goes for the way the speaker grills appear on the casing. I think the new MB`s look pretty good (though I too would have preferred an all silver approach) but I think the new MBP looks character-less.

The old MacBook looks like a child's toy compared to the new MacBook. It looks considerably cheaper.

I would also like to make the point that I think the design looks better as a MacBook than as a MacBook Pro. I think the consumer line should be the more showy, trendy line (this is what I'm into). Personally, the design isn't reserved and timeless enough for the Pro line.

I agree that the Pro line would've made more sense as all-silver.

And I liked the old MBP power button, too.

Not sure about 5 years ago but Sony has been doing the 2-tone thing for a while. They have several models they've released that are silver with black keyboards.

Sony's laptops look great, so I hardly see this as a downside. Having black around the screen just makes sense.
