I think the new ones are pretty nice. I hate the fact it has no FW and I don't like the black keyboard (I saw it in person and I still think it looks horrible), but it is nice overall.

OP get ready to be trashed by those who just bought it. Most of those think it is so, so, perfect. I guess anytime someone buys something you defend it like it is so great. Most people probably do that.

I just can't stand the blackborder around the screens. First the imacs and now these laptops. Whatever happened to the sleek unicolor Apple is famous for? Looks more pee cee than mac to me. What is that, electrical tape around the screen?

It makes more sense to have a dark color border the screen. It makes the screen look better.

may i suggest you quit whining about everyone who has a legitimately critical comment about the new machine?

You can suggest all you want.

Now if you'll go back and read what I wrote, the OP wants a black version of the older MacBook. I provided him with a link to purchase a brand new one. And to say that Apple made the new MacBook without providing any real upgrades is ridiculous. Actually, it's not ridiculous. It's whining, and that is exactly what the OP is doing.

okay i went back and read the OP

basically you're right and he is whining, sorry

are you sure it's ugly?

I totally agree. There's a reason TV's come with black rims around them. DUH!!! ;)

This is also the reason I got the black ipod video.

I still kind of wish it was all black...but the paint would probably wear off if that were true, and I had no interest in the previous so-called greasebook :p

My friend has one and like I said earlier it is still ugly as hell to me. Everyone can decide on their own, but IMO Apple dropped the ball with the 2 tone. I have no interest in the new one without FW, no performance upgrade besides the graphics (the last gen 2.4 is 20% better in benchmark scores than the new 2.0 and basically the same with the new 2.4--I also tested the new 2.4 my friend has with mine side by side to confirm it) which still can't play graphic intensive games on mid or high level (don't tell me they can because my friend has the 2.4 new one and we tested it for a long time on 3 different new graphic extensive games using XP in bootcamp), I don't like how it looks (to each their own--some like, some don't like with anything else in life), etc..

BTW it is stupid to buy any Macbook for intensive games. The new one included. It wasn't made for that. If it is your main reason then go buy a PC, the Pro, or a gaming system.

I was going to buy the new one because I have the money, but I will wait until next year when hopefully Apple comes to their senses and changes some things with the new Macbook. Snow Leopard and the new intel tech will hopefully be out then which will be a huge upgrade from the new ones now.

Get used to it...

I just don't like to think that I paid 2000$ a month ago for something that is outdated already!

Welcome to the world of technology. This is outdated as I type it. Today will be old news tomorrow. Get used to it, it will only get worse. What is amazing is that there are so loyal Mac owners still using their old Powerbooks, ibooks, and iMac G4s. This stuff just isn't like all the rest.

i dont like the inside. They just made this new one to make money and not worth it. White is what symbolizes a Mac. REALLY, what were the major changes to the new Macbook??? The trackpad, a black keyboard, aluminum casing, and the NVDIA graphics for gamers??? And don't forget the downgrade to NO FIREWIRE. In what way does the NVDIA graphics help us non gamers?? PC is still gonna have a wider variety of games for an audience for gamers...

Now there are rumors of upgrades coming soon to the new Macbook. Doesn't anyone notice that Macbook purposely doesnt add stuff to their new Macbook so they can upgrade them later???? Im happy with the one i bought a few months ago...:)

one macbook i do wanna get is the black version of this one i got a couple months ago...

I'm still pissed that Apple removed SCSI, but yeah you should blog about it.

Hmmm, let's see. I went from a Powerbook 12" which I loved to a new Macbook. I love the look of the new Macbook. White looks cheesy and gets dirty so easily. Much better graphics and much faster. I'm now upgraded to Panther. I never once used Firewire. Tried with my iPod mini, but it's not compatible.

Track pad takes a wee bit of getting used to, but so far so good.

I think some folks are just never happy.

You use Panther on a new MacBook??

I just got the new MacBook and sat it side-by-side with the old white one. I honestly think anyone who thinks the old one looks better is insane.

Yep, the new one is gorgeous. I was a little turned off by the design at first, but now I love it, especially after using it for a while.

Side by side with my old WhiteBook, there's really no comparison.

As for looking like a PC, I just don't agree. I kind of thought they looked a little PCish when they were first announced, but they don't. I was in class yesterday, and I was looking at everyone else's computers, and I couldn't help but wonder what those designers could have possibly been thinking. They look hideous. There were a couple of Sonys that looked ok, but they were also clearly imitating Apple's designs. The rest all looked like old VCR's from the 80's. I'm surprised they didn't have faux wood panelling on the sides.

It is a fact that anyone who buys the reg Macbook primarily for games is an idiot. Integrated graphics suck for intensive games. The Pro is where you need to go or better yet buy a PC laptop/desktop, or a gaming system.

Slightly OT, but I am bewildered by the people coming here that bring up games as such an enormously important factor for a laptop. Doesn't anyone else us their computer to get other stuff done?

You'd think they'd be perfectly happy with a laptop-sized PS3.

(this isn't directed at you, Hog. Your post just made me think of it).

Yup, hideous. Can I have it for free, since it's so unsightly? :D

Every time I look at my new MacBook I think about how perfect the design is structurally. It's truly awesome and I think a lot of people are being blinded by this.

What I really hate about the look of this computer, iMac and the silver iPod nano is the black nonsense Apple is putting on them all. There's just no reason for it whatsoever. Every time I look at my MacBook I think about how awesome it would be if the keyboard was silver and if the display edge was silver. That would have been a beautiful computer.

In its current state the MacBook looks just like any other Windows laptop and I guess Apple is trying to get people to think about Windows when they are buying these machines.

So conclusion - construction is great but colours are very, very bad.

White (which I think was first used on the iMac G4) was the colour that partly got me attracted to Apple computers. Those Apple machines looked so different to the boring PC colour schemes and designs. It was a breathe of fresh air.

IMHO I would of prefered it if they stuck with the white colour scheme and used white coloured aluminum and stuck to white keys instead of black. I would of also prefered it if they kept the firewire port.

Now the new MacBook and MacBook pro just look like all the other notebooks in the market:(

Just because the colours are the same does not mean it looks like any of those laptops. There's simply no comparison there. That argument is like saying the BlackBook looks like a PC laptop because it's black (people made this argument, and they were wrong).

White is what symbolizes a Mac.

Agreed on that point: the white macbook is very iconic. The new macbook doesn't look "ugly" in my opinion, but it does look nearly as distinguished as the old white book.

Still, I have yet to see it in person, and the fully machined casing sounds pretty darn cool.
