Its not a rumor that we cant order new macbook pros, its real. Just ask your local apple reseller, they will tell you the same. :)

Honestly I don't think it's worth the trip across the street, but we'll see. You're in Denmark. Where is Midlandman from. Maybe this is a Europe thing. Doesn't make sense that Apple would cut you all off first. It's an awful big secret to keep quiet thus far which makes most of us skeptical and we've had the carrot hanging out there for 4 months.

AND, Macmall still shows plenty in stock.

going way off topic.

Haha you just answered the "off topic" subject and then decided to declare it as "off topic". Double standards!?
I am from Turkey but I think (as far as I know) credit and credibility can be both used in this context.

Like always... if the new MBP is released next week I'll forgive good'ole Steve all the annoying waiting... and I'm pretty sure that the specs won't disappoint us...

I dont know where he is from either. I just told you what i knew about this, i even signed up a user to tell you. ;) I think we will see a new macbook pro soon, but you can thank me later, hihi.

Over and out :D

processor transplanting

so I had to get the 13-in C2D model mainly because waiting till June was just so not an option because of the school work I would have to do and figure out a way to do all of it w/ no laptop at home is not an option...

yet with all this talk about the new Core iX processors...

would it possible to just buy say a Core i3 or i5 model processor and just transplant the processor into your Macbook Pro via in a DIY fashion???

I don't know how feasible it is to take the current MacBook Pro apart to replace the processor but I am 99% sure that the socket the current processor (Intel Core 2 Duo) fits into will not hold the i series processors.

No. Different socket (and split of north/southbridge chipsets ). Even if were socket capatible, some tricky heatsinks to remove and reapply (and the thermal footprint inside the laptop will have moved around a bit). Additionally, you'd void the warranty even if you could do.

A macbook update seems too soon. An mbp update will probably happen during wwdc since an update usually occurs around the same time as the mb but that never happened. As for the mba I think they will nix it.

Does anyone think Apple will start pairing iPads with macbooks for school instead of iPods?

No. What that special is doing is unloading the "soon to be obsolete, but still useful" iPods (since the new ones come every September) at a discount. They have to clean out any iPod inventory out there before Fall. For example, last summer it was the 8GB iPod Touch that dropped $100 in price after the Fall intro and still had 'last year's processor/graphics'. So it was about a $199 discount.

The iPad is brand new and probably won't be refreshed until next calendar year ( Jan-March ). They can't meet worldwide demand for it, so no way they are going to "give away" the devices. Not going to discount laptops by $499.

Shipping Information?

Hi,
I have a question regarding the shipping process of new Macbook Pros! If Macbook Pros really came out say next tuesday, how would the shipping delay of them be. I guess they will update the Apple store silently and everyone can order online, so my question is if I am one of the first 100000 people to order :D when will it proximately arrive. Anyone has experience? I am a asking for the situation in the US since I am ordering from the US. I am a Apple newbie so I have no idea how long these things usually take.

Thanks

If your OS has reasonable support for resolution independence, it's fine.

I have a T61p with 1920x1200 15.4" screen, and it's fine. I've set text to 125%, so things are easy to read. Lightroom and Photoshop, though, let me see photos in the same resolution as my desktop. Far better than the "wide screen" fraud of 1440 by 900.

Higher resolution *is* better - if you OS can support it and selectively change the size of text and UI elements appropriately. Apparently, your OS does not.

The lack of resolution independence in OS X 10.6 is my biggest disappointment.

[Edit: BTW, OS X is not "my" OS; actually, I use both OS X and Windows. I still prefer OS X for most things, though.]

standard ups shipping unless you upgrade. minus the day it takes apple to process your order.

True, about the mainline machines. The sucky part is that you are right, IF the higher resolution comes as a BTO it'll probably be $50. If you want a matte screen with a higher resolution it'll be an extra $100.

I empathize because I prefer matte over glossy/glassy screens. My eyes are just very sensitive to the glare.

I'm no expert so go easy prolific posters....does this indicate imminent upgrades do people think?

One store doesn't mean imminent upgrade. ( or even several stores feeding off a single distributor, if there is more than one layer of middlemen between them and Apple). To some extent the stores don't want to get caught with "old" inventory either. When they get feeling about time they may slow orders so that don't get caught with stock will have to heavily discount to get rid of. The closer Apple gets to year anniversary the more widespread this will become.

Similarly could be dropping temporarily inventory to make their books look better ( end of their financial quarter). Hold back on reorders temporarily to look better and then when no deep audit go fill the stock to normal levels.

If it is several stores and the Apple online store starts slipping on delivery dates too then that a more creditable indicator.

Then use Command-= (equal/plus sign). That'll make the text bigger. Besides, all displays I've used for over a decade can support multiple resolutions. We could have the option of 1900 x 1200 and still be able to go lower for those with bad eyes.

Yes, but from what I understand, the text is not as clear in non-native resolutions. What is really needed is resolution independence built into the OS. I do some (amateurish) photo editing, and a higher resolution would be helpful for that, but text gets tricky when changing resolutions. Unfortunately, I don't anticipate resolution independence until 10.7.

Hi,

Usually Apple stops shipping the "old" version several days before the release. People who order several days ahead of the release will see extra long fulfillment on their order. So they start shipping that day. The folks who order that day are NOT the first in line to get one.

Since the announcements aren't tied to a fixed day (e.g.., Has to be a Macworld, WWDC or convention Foobar ) they can announce when they have been running the factory for a few.

Don't understand the goof ball rationale to block products just for WWDC. If they are ready to go .... release them. Could understand holding for a week or two, but not months. That's retarded.

There have also been product updates the week before a major event so that's another option.

I'd still place money on WWDC. Everyone says "that's too late," but again, if it is a really big refresh, then we can expect to wait a bit longer.

If WWDC is mid-late June then the iPhone could be pre-announced. The yearly iPhone schedule puts it in June/July each year anyway. No reason to jam up the laptops just to be a punchline in a formulaic presentation.

If iPhoneOS 4 is released to developers tomorrow then by June Apple will want to do a dog and pony show with the "magical" software that select few developers have built with the new OS.

Come WWDC :
So first 10 minutes for the "Carl Sagan" section "billions and billions and millions and billions and did I mention billions and millions " ( the buy Apple stock commercial. )

Some Mac OS X homage ( roadmap to 10.7 ? )

Long iPhone OS 4 dog and pony show

Apple Ads ( sell ads through us , blah , blah , blah )

... one more thing....

new iPhone specs or streaming music

Introducing i5/i7 laptops would be just catching up to what the competitors have already announced and had on the market for months at that point. The case designs will be largely the same. It will be last years case with this years electronics in them. How is that even remotely worthy of a "one more thing..." at WWDC ?

It is a freaking developers conference. Should be spending time talking about new software not hardware. It isn't like they don't have 2-3 Operating systems to cover and gobs opportunities associated with those. Spending 10-15 minutes rattling off hardware feature charts is a goofy way to spend that time when all needed to do was either a Apple campus event ( like this iPhone OS 4 thing) or a Yuerba Bunea event. Or just some press releases.

There have also been product updates the week before a major event so that's another option.

How about just release them when they are ready?

I have been waiting 2 months now and I would not be so annoyed if I already owned and MacBook Pro but I don't so I am getting sick and tired of waiting (and the rumors for the past month have only made it worse).

Hi Guys,

Sorry for my ignorence - what is WWCD?

Thanks :)

hey guys lve been reading this awhile and I've searched on the web, called around, talked to my brother that works at apple, etc. and I've come to conclude with this. The MBP updates will be out either next tuesday or the following, if not then some random day in between (duh, lol). I looked online at best buy to see if any stores had ANY of the MBP's around me and none did, only one store had ONE 13" MBP within a 45 mile radius (I'm from chicago). The reason why its talking so long is because of the shortage of Intel chips and the inconvenience of the iPad release. My brother said that he hasn't gotten any MBP's in stock my a couple of weeks, and what he has left is slim. He called around to see if it was just his store and it wasn't, almost ALL the stores have very limited stock. Apple can not have money being taken away from them because it wasn't a "good time" to release updates, that being said the iPad was just one of those excuses, new product, blah blah blah. Now that that is over they will come out any day, Apple will not wait around till WWDC because in about 3 week or so there will be NO MORE NEW C2D MBP's. SO, you can expect updated MBP's SOME TIME NEXT WEEK

Im hoping for a MBP release as a sidenote at the iphone confrence on Thursday.

*activate wishful thinking mode*

8 April, 2010
Steve Jobs: "And, so those are all of the new features we can expect out of the iPhone OS 4, which will also drive the iPads and be applied via software update. This concludes our presentation of the iPhone OS 4. Thank you all very much for coming, and thank you for your attention.

Oh, and one more thing..."

I'm 99.99999% sure there won't be any mention of the laptops at this event. People, you have to look at history to infer the future.
March 17, 2009, Apple introduced iPhone OS3, and on March 3, 2009, the iMacs, Mac Pros, and Mac Minis were updated silently.
March 27, 2008 Apple introduced iPhone OS2, with the software roadmap. A week later, the iMacs were updated, silently.
Therefore, if the MacBook Pros and Mac Pros are to be updated soon, it would most likely be a week or two after this event, because it's too late for it to happen a week or two before this event. Bring optimistic, it might just be updated in Friday April 9, but I doubt that.
I'd put my money on April 12-13 or april 19-20.

It's WWDC, and it stands for World Wide Developers Conference
