If this comes out, apple and the saying "always one step ahead of the competition" should be retired. This is more like 2-3 years behind the competition. After waiting so long, if this is actually true I'm probably going to pass. Asus and afew other laptops absolutely demolish this @ a lesser cost.

That said, I still hope this is all fake.

I have learned that the thing t do with apple is skin every other generation of product upgrade i you wana buy new..lol I will only brake this rule is i find a great cheap deal on a used model.. like my 4S

yeah but its still a crappy PC windows machine hat will not be as stable or reliable as a MBP.. but I do agree that apple need to bump the specs a bit..

Sony Vaio's are not crappy. Windows 7 is pretty good too. Windows 8 however  it doesn't feel like a good time to be considering a platform switch back to Windows.

Guess what?

One simple reason I believe it's not genuine.

On any MacBook packaging with this kind of label, the amount of graphics memory is always printed after the graphics card.

Example: Intel HD Graphics 3000 with 384MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory

Yet on this label: Intel HD Graphics 4000

Is it expected that Apple would mention less on this label?

BTW this is my first comment ever, how exciting. Lol.

That's false. On the latest release you can see a picture of it just saying "Intel HD 3000" http://zapp5.staticworld.net/news/graphics/220565-mac4ever_original.jpg

Older releases had it in detail: http://www.intechreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/083503-mbp13_500.jpg and http://www.geek.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/MacBookPro_spec.jpg

Well in case no one noticed, this is the same source that leaked the MacBook Pro specs last year, and we know how that turned out. It was spot on.

If seems this is legit. Lets assume it is. This raises allot of questions, first this indicates that the 13 MBP is going away. The Air 13 inch is still not on par power wise as the 13 MBP. Apple knows this. Hence the need for the 13 inch MBP.

Second, if this leak is true, Apple feels that the Air is not enough for power users, yet. Once the Air 13 inch can do everything the 13 MBP can do you will see it gone.

Why have two 13 inch laptops that can do the same thing? You can only make a 13 inch so thin and not give up performance. The 13 Air isn't there yet. This leaked 13 inch will run cooler and better. The i5 ivy bridge is almost on par with last years Sandy bridge i7. GPU 4000 is better than 3000 and the inclusion of USB 3.0 is a given. Bigger battery?

And lets not forget, a Quad core i7 may be avail.

The screen is disappointing though if this leak is real.

I would put money (well, Monopoly money) on this. There's been so much talk of the revamped 15" with little to no rumors of a 13" or 17" redesign. I agree that the 13" MPB will get this silent upgrade, then hang around until the MBA gets up to MBP power standards.

The 15" MBP will be the big portable news at WWDC, then I still think a similar 17" will follow a few months later.

It may seem a little odd to have the 13" MBP be the only portable left with a SuperDrive (and I guess the existing 17", too, until it gets replaced or, heaven forbid, EOLed), but it's possible.

</speculation> What do I know? But I love the fact this news raises so many questions, as iamthedudeman said. Can't wait until the keynote!!

I am always amazed at the whining whenever something like this comes out. People just cannot accept the fact the computing has become incremental rather than revolutionary. What did they expect? A retina display, SSD and 3.5Ghz in the 13" MBP? And for $999.

The most exciting line in the spec is the USB3.0 ports. The fact that both are upgraded means that they have been accepted across the platform and that is great news.

Now if you want me to get excited, just show me an 8GB Air! The i7 Air and Thunderbolt Display combine to give me the almost the best Mac ever. If it had 8GB, it would hold that crown easily!

apple always ships machines with half the ram needed fro them to run at their best...lol

I think you're going to be feeling very disappointed after the keynote. :p

I feel the same thing.

15" and 17" will make up the Pro line.
11" and 13" will make up the Air line.

Here's your fake label, did it in 10 minutes as I said was possible.

See? Simple. Print it out, fold it to get that little crease, slap it on anything white, and you have Apple fans in chaos.

No one denies that you can print it out and make it up. Just not as convincing as the label above.

And you're forgetting the fact that the exact same source leaked the MacBook Pro specs last year. Same type of picture, same type of label.

I am betting this is real.

If you were hoping for top end specs on a 13", probably best to keep dreaming. Buy a 15" if you want to make it count.

exactly... the 13 is perfect for me.. many folks get the 15 fro the bigger screen alone and dont even use half its potential.. my 13 powers my HD cinema perfectly for big work at home and i love the portability of 13 form factor on the road but i did have to double the ram to 8 gigs the standard 4 gigs is a joke n a MBP

The first thing that jumped out at me was "Preinstalled Mac OS X". These new devices are likely to ship with Mountain Lion, no? They did drop the "Mac" from "Mac OS X" in the developer previews for 10.8.

John Gruber thinks Mountain Lion is still months away from release. Which means Apple will probably launch the refresh with Lion and offer upgrade deals to 10.8 as they have done in the past.

I was reading through the posts and I couldn't resist so I opened an account to post a reply.

The photo COULD be true as we have had the same disapointment from the Iphone 4s.

IF the photo was photoshopped, it would have to be from the 2011 13.3" version. This is because it's too much effort to change it from others. If the person has photoshopped from the 2011 version, he wouldn't have put in that much effort other than changing a few numbers and characters. I tried to change the resolution and it turned out quite good. BUT, he probably couldn't have changed the barcode perfectly. I don't have one but if you can compare the barcode of a late 2011 model 13.3 inch with simular specs, you could see if they are photoshopped by looking if they are the same (or he could have just swapped a few of them so look at the simularities in the groups).

It is highly likely that he might have printed and captured that pic. In that case, you have to look at minor errors. I have done no research about this topic and I have not seen any of those spec papers in real life. I have compared a few of them on the net and I saw that apple usually does not seperate words. On this photo, I can see that the word "connection" has been seperated as con- nection. It might sound stupid but just an idea :)

As I said, I haven't done much research but these are my findings in around 15 mins.

DDR3 SDRAM Upgraded from 1333MHz to 1600MHz

There is a small upgrade in the RAM which you didn't notice I guess. Wouldn't make that much difference, but still...

I just cant go to PC os no matter how powerful the machine is.. been a designer for 13 years.. mac is in my blood and when i wana go exploring deep dark corners of the internet nothing but a mac is gona be reliable down there...lol

If this is true then I feel sorry for Apple because I wouldn't buy it at thoses boring ass specs.
So lets wait and see what happens in a few weeks.

Maybe, maybe not? The noise in the photo looks pretty uniform. To my eyes, there's nothing about it that looks really fake.

Here's a challenge - can you take that photo, edit it so that the specs are a bit more impressive, and then post the results? :)

Can anyone? Surely on a Mac-oriented forum there has to be some Photoshop wizard who could do this?

You don't even need photoshop to do this. If in fact it is a fake, open up the spec file, cover the specs you want to change with a white border less box, then match text color and font to existing format. Take the picture then upload it later. It seems like a lot, yes, however if someone is making a fake just to start confusion, this is a feasible route. And it's super simple.

Someone mentioned the barcode as a sign it is real. Dude, it's a barcode. Those are so easy to fake!

I completely disagree with that.

well apple agrees which is why the 13inch always get lesser specs than the bigger brothers.. but they always offer a super power3ed 13 incher fro extra money though.. my friend ordered a custom i7 8 gig ssd non glare MBP 13.. most 13 consumers wont feel the need for that

I'm skeptical on that front. The site still claims availability in the summer. I haven't read what Gruber has said, but could it have anything to do with not seeing a GM or Developer Previews being rough around the edges?

I just decided to add my comment for what I noticed, I have no real speculation about the release, although I will be interested to hear what they do come out with next week.

What I want to know is why you can tear the bar code off from the rest of the label. As far as i know you cant do this on any other version on the labels
