I don't think that its a fake just because it sound very reasonable and realistic (compared to all the retina rumors and such). I am a bit disappointed that they won't drop the optical though... oh well, we will find out soon enough.

John Gruber thinks Mountain Lion is still months away from release. Which means Apple will probably launch the refresh with Lion and offer upgrade deals to 10.8 as they have done in the past.

Doesnt matter if it's months away from release...they've done this plenty of times before where they announce it and then release later in the summer.

+ a crossover 15" MBA
- 17" MBP (dead and buried)

There are still some people who want a 17" macbook pro..
like me... :p

(ps: I actually would use the 17" space, 15" would be to small for what I need it for,
and no, I can't use an external monitor)

I think you're going to be feeling very disappointed after the keynote. :p

Disappointed by no MBP redesign at all? Hmmm. I've rarely been disappointed by an Apple keynote, as I try (not always successfully) to keep my expectations in line with Apple's way of doing things.

But if the whole MBP line received this spec upgrade and no other major changes (i.e. no Retina, no new case design, no more use of SSD, no surprise innovation, etc.), then I would be a little disappointed, I think.

Unless, however, they announce a redesigned iMac and/or Mac Pro, in which case I'll be too busy drooling to worry about the MBP (espacially since an iMac is probably the next major Apple product in my future).:D

I just created an account to post this. I have been lurking for years.

I like my 2011 13" MBP. I can change the ram and HDD anytime I want and right now I have a SSD 120 and a 500 gig HDD in my optical bay.

I play games on my 13" when I travel and wouldn't like the upgraded display if it would impact the performance of the games I like to play, but I do not want a 15" at all I like the size and battery life of my 13"

Two Lines?

IIRC, it was rumored Apple would maintain two lines of products. This screen shot makes sense if the new rumored 15" is an extension of the MBA line and the screen shot shows the updated 13" MBP. Perhaps Apple is dividing their line like this:

MBA
[Edit: Standard Display; Separate Line for] Retina Displays
ULV/LV CPUs
SSD
Intel Integrated Gfx
No Optical Drive

MBP
Standard Displays (retaining options for Hi-Res and AG Hi-Res)
Quad- and Dual-(13" only) CPUs
HDD with SSD Cache (SSD Drive optional)
Dual Gfx Solution--Intel Integrated and Discrete
Optical Drive

Ports would also likely be different, the most significant being that the 15" MBA would not have an ethernet port while the MBP would retain that port.

The only disappointment would be the standard displays for the MBP, but if they allowed the customer to upgrade the screen (like now), then that mitigates the problem (to an extent).

I'm skeptical on that front. The site still claims availability in the summer. I haven't read what Gruber has said, but could it have anything to do with not seeing a GM or Developer Previews being rough around the edges?

I just decided to add my comment for what I noticed, I have no real speculation about the release, although I will be interested to hear what they do come out with next week.

It's coming late summer, i.e September. Says so in the ML press release and Cook reiterated it in a recent conference call.

Whatever models are released next week will get a free upgrade like last year.

well apple agrees which is why the 13inch always get lesser specs than the bigger brothers.. but they always offer a super power3ed 13 incher fro extra money though.. my friend ordered a custom i7 8 gig ssd non glare MBP 13.. most 13 consumers wont feel the need for that

Nothing to do with TDP and space inside the chassis then? Just because Apple think power users want a big screen? Thanks for the lesson:rolleyes:

PS: Those non glare MBP 13's are just the shiznit aren't they?

What I want to know is why you can tear the bar code off from the rest of the label. As far as i know you cant do this on any other version on the labels

There are a number of reasons for this really. There can be differences in SKU/Barcodes at a warehouse stock level (ie; base units that are allocated for sale vs ones that are allocated as units to be used for BTO upgrades such as HDD/SDD/RAM configurations) The ability to interchange the barcode (if bound to a serial number of a product for example) and the information (in this case spec) via a perforated strip can be quite common.

More likely however, and this is just speculation on my part, but considering the ethical & sustainability credentials of Apple, it would make sense for these to be produced as single stickers and then the barcode can be removed to use the area above for price pointing in store etc (not all of the stores have utilised iPads as price points as of yet) and Authorised Resellers etc could be bound by certain stipulations regarding display of information to avoid self-produced labels misinforming customers!

I studied sustainability in design quite heavily for my final thesis whilst at university and the use of, and reason for that kind of practice is quite commonplace nowadays to avoid excessive waste materials!

Oy. Hope this isn't true but it does seem pretty real. I've had my 13" since late 2009 and I love it. I've always thought 13" laptops had the perfect balance between portability and being just large enough to get stuff done.

I'm about to go to college this fall and was planning on getting a new MacBook Pro but I'm waiting for the new ones (which hopefully will be out really soon, this wait is killing me!). Luckily, I decided I'm going to upgrade to a 15" since they seem to have obviously more power and the graphic cards are usually a lot better. I'm really looking forward to seeing what they do with the new computers. Retina screens would be amazing but I'm not sure about that. Would love if they'd ditch the optical drive and add an SSD and a larger battery. Hopefully they announce these during the keynote because its been a long wait now. Also, can't wait for a release version of 10.8.

If this is real these specs are shockingly bad, what high-end manufacturer still makes screens with a resolution of 1280x800!? Terrible, however, it is easy to make a fake spec sheet and print it out.

Looks like a solid little machine, still with superdrive, ethernet and fw800! If the hd4000 is any good I might buy one to replace my 2008 mbp. Not having to buy and carry around 5 adaptors and an external optical drive would be a huge bonus. Very nice update if true.

If thats real then it should be $899. The problem is people buy it at 1199. Which in no way do I blame Apple for pricing it there, who wouldn't. The market needs to set the value MUCH lower for these machines if the specs do not improve. If they have a bunch of MBPs sitting in warehouses because people refuse to pay that extra margin then they will drop the price.

Microcenter always sells this for $1000, which is close enough for myself. 1199 is a no way in hell for me.

The fact it reads "Mac OS X" and not "OS X" seems odd, though I'm just reading the tea leaves here. Apple seems very consistent (most of the time) in marketing and nomenclature.

this is really frustrating. since when did people become so blind to the fact that apple is a consumer based company now and not a pro-sumer one?
