I'm looking to upgrade from my 16" HP laptop which is on it's last leg, almost exactly 3 years old. My heart has been settled on getting the 13" MBP when it is upgraded this summer and I am very excited to experience my first Apple laptop. I have debated back and forth between the 13" MBP and cheaper PC's with even better specs but my heart still says to go with the Apple because of overall better performance and long term sustainability.. can't wait for the announcement! :D

I suggest you buy a model newer than 2008. The current 13 inch MBP is 1440 by 900...one of the largest in the industry for the price point.

No...it's not. The 13" MBA has a 1440 x 900 resolution. The CURRENT 13" MBP has a resolution of 1280 x 800. I would also suggest not insulting the other person on this forum, especially when you're giving false Information.

Really?

^ beat me to it

First: Rumor Roundup, Episode 7: Screen size matters

Just because appleinsider post news from an "analyst" or those "familiar with apple" sources doesn't mean it's true. In-fact it is most likely not going to happen.

Second:Technical Specs: 13-inch
Supported resolutions: 1280 by 800 (native), 1152 by 720, 1024 by 640, and 800 by 500 pixels at 16:10 aspect ratio; 1024 by 768, 800 by 600, and 640 by 480 pixels at 4:3 aspect ratio; 1024 by 768, 800 by 600, and 640 by 480 pixels at 4:3 aspect ratio stretched; 720 by 480 pixels at 3:2 aspect ratio; 720 by 480 pixels at 3:2 aspect ratio stretched

That's from Apple's website making the image more realistic vs the rumors.

Third: Don't listen to rumors you'll be extremely disappointed.

Well Apple aren't going to announce support for a resolution higher than 1280x800 because you know...the current models physically can't support anything higher? Hardly proof.

Elaborate on that, maybe I've just read your point wrong.

A CD-RW drive on a laptop in 2012? Seriously?

Is this the same Apple that was first to rid a desktop computer of the floppy drive? I hope this is a faked image.

The picture is fake:

1. The height of the two columns is not balanced.
2. The amount of shared memory of the Intel IGP is not mentioned, which seems inconsistent with previous cases.

Meh

Here's a list of reasons that I am not taking this picture seriously:

- The quality of the image is pretty poor.
- The high-quality version looks like they are standard sticky labels everyone has lying around.
- The source is a nobody.
- It says MAC OSX rather than simply OSX.
- The picture is easy to fake with a printer and a camera.
- It does not say "Macbook Pro" on it anywhere.
- The columns are usually even on the specs label, why not here?
- The resolution is that of the current MBP, lower than the MBA. If retina screens really aren't coming at WWDC, they would at least upgrade their "pro" machine so it matches upto their lower machines.
- Bloomberg have reported many things not seen on this screenshot and they are a pretty reliable source.
- Why has it got even heavier than the last model? Surely that's totally the opposite of what will happen?
- Why would it only have an i5 when other companies now offer an i7 in even their lower machines.
- I am hoping for a big redesign strongly so my heart wont let me believe!

I was thinking though, when the glossy unibody first came out, the 13" was just called the Macbook, not the Macbook Pro (I had one), so what if they go down this route again? As the 13" MBP is only a little better than the AIR, so this might not be classed as a pro? Just sayin'.

Allahu Akbar, this is great news.

I don't understand the obsession of form over function. With any luck the 15" MBP will be the same, no pointless redesign.

Another point of interest: it still says "Mac OS X" instead of the forward-looking "OS X".

I suppose this isn't telling much if it's supposed to come with Lion, as they still refer to lion as "Mac OS X" in some places and "OS X" in others. It's only ML that is consistently always called "OS X" by Apple.

IMO, the i-macs are more in need of a refresh than the MBP.

Either way, if I was an Apple marketing guy, and I planned to make retina displays optional for the MBP line, I'd be thrilled with this type of leak. If it turns out that we do get retinas, everyone will be hailing it as the second coming of Jebus, even if it's accompanied by a hefty price bump.

If apple doesn't pop out a newly designed laptop this summer I see stock prices dropping 10%, and loss off consumer interest in apple in the short term.

Tim doesnt have to be like steve, .... He has to be better.

He better not drop the ball on this one

That was in reply to soundguyami. I even pointed an arrow to the above quote. Also the resolution seems more realistic vs the rumors of 2500 x 2000 or whatever as rumored.

I just think a lot of people are going to be dissapointed with the new macbook pro's. Me on the other hand will likely still like it. I like the current models and I hope Apple chooses to stick with what has worked. According to those leaked specs it looks like Apple chose to stick with what has worked.

Elaborate on that, maybe I've just read your point wrong.

Personally I would just like to see a slimmer re-design (with an ethernet port if possible), better screen resolution, and obviously the excepted spec bump. CD/DVD drive is not too important to me, would prefer larger battery to optical drive.

Ah it was just your final line under it which threw me. I do apologise.

For me personally; will I be disappointed with no retina? No not really. Disappointed with 1280x800? Absolutely, it's such an outdated resolution, hell a 5.8" phone has the exact same resolution.

Likewise with a 5400RPM HDD, fair enough if it was 7200RPM, but 5400RPM again? Come on.

I find it interesting that PC makers are looking more and more like a macbook pro with those exact specs.

I've looked at about 14 brands now of PC's - A good majority have slimmer laptops with a macbook pro/air look with 1080p screen res.

Personally I would just like to see a slimmer re-design (with an ethernet port if possible), better screen resolution, and obviously the excepted spec bump. CD/DVD drive is not too important to me, would prefer larger battery to optical drive.

An increase in resolution and an SSD with say 256GB+ will be what I would be at least wanting.

Funny, I still see an Optical Disc Drive, along with Gigabit Ethernet and FireWire 800 Ports, all of which the vocal majority seemed to indicate was "old" "antequated" and "not long for this world". Also a dual-core CPU where, for some insane reason, a quad-core CPU was firmly believed to be present (Ivy Bridge doesn't cut all THAT much down on the power usage people). Good to know that I don't need to be a complete jerk to see these people proven wrong.

I just played with effects in Photoshop in hope of proving this was shopped. Unfortunately, it looks very real and some details like the fact that the label SKU (bottom right) and weight (2.06kg instead of 2.04kg) are slightly different make it look real :(.

I'd like to be proved this is an elaborate fake, but it's not looking good. Perhaps Apple would release only a redesigned 15" and keep the current 13" for a generation until the 13" MBA finally replaces it, kind of like the white MacBook that they kept alongside the Aluminium MacBook introduced in 2008.

Make some photoshop art over a real specs image, then print the result, then take a pic of that, and voila! No photoshop traces. :)
