I'm not changing my Macbook unibody until Apple releases a 13" Quadcore laptop.

If the update is applied also to the Mini I might get one though.

No one here seems to remember that the MBP-specs historically have closely followed the iMac-specs...

Since the low-end iMac (which was updated rather recently, mind you) still has got a Core 2 Duo-CPU, it seems as if a speed bump is more likely for both the 13" and low end 15" MBP. It can go all the way up to 3Ghz.
And 3Ghz is good for marketing, for the majority of consumers.. That's probably why you'll find Core 2 Duos in the low end 27" iMac too.

Then we have i5 for mid range and high end 15", with i7 as BTO.
The 17" will probably get a i7 as standard.

These sober/mopey remarks of mine might sound underwhelmingly sad to most people in here - but try to keep in mind that this is an upcoming Apple refresh. Hardware wise they always disappoint everyone, one way or another.

I'm waiting on the update do get my 13" MacBook Pro.

Do you guys think its possible that they release it with 2 options for hard drives?

ex: You can choose either a 64GB SSD if you want higher performance or a 250GB HD if you want Storage.

On Newegg:

64GB SSDs around U$ 200.00
250GB HDs around U$ 60.00

But the iPad without 3G is U$ 699,00.

I was thinking about it, the iPad comes with either 16 - 32 or 64GB SSD.

And SSDs are starting to replace HDs due to the performance increase and because you can shake your laptop without worrying if your laptop is gonna die due to scratched disk.

I know you can choose the option for the 128GB SSD for an extra 400 bucks. But it would be nice to choose a smaller one by default.

I would definitely choose performance over storage. External Hard Drivers like the Western Digital Passport are easy to carry around for storage. I just wanted something to make my laptop even more portable and decrease the chance of having a bad hd.

That would be nice and I'd go for the same option as I have a desktop for all my storage needs, but I think they'll leave the SSD as more costly add-ons.

I got a new midrange MBP yesterday to appease myself.. I've got 14 days for the exchange at BB for the new model. Silver members don't have to pay the restocking fee. :-D I am really hopeful for a refresh.

Chris

As a Silver member at BB, you actually have 45 days to return it. I have used this a few times myself, very nice bonus. :)

Might be!

Is this real

However GeekBench has never uipressed me so I wouldn't dwell on the numbers. Further Snow Leopard has a performance issue or two they may have addressed in the build. Finally there is no sign of GPU info, these says the GPU is as important as the CPU.

Sadly I just purchased a new set of wheels so I'm going to have to suffer as you guys let's us all know how nice your new MBP is.

Hmm, I am way over my head when it comes to processors so I don't really know much.

I've read almost every page of this thread, and one person said the i7 arrandale is better then the i7 clarksfield.....is that true?

Does any other computer maker (HP, Sony, etc) use the i7 arrandale chipsets? If not, wouldn't the MBP again be ahead of the curve? Hopefully the graphics aren't terrible!

Well great news nonetheless, I am excited about the new chipsets.

Buying an SSD-equipped machine from Apple is just plain wasting money. You can get a much better Intel one elsewhere for less than what they charge and then stick one you got from apple in an external enclosure for backup. At least, that's what I plan to do.

Just noticed that the discussion forums at Apple.com are down... a "We'll be back soon" sticky note is up, along with a message that says "We're busy updating Apple Discussions for you and will be back shortly".

Perhaps they're updating/ adding forum fields for the new MBP?

In sort right now if you are in market new laptop these are processors u want...

1) http://ark.intel.com/ProductCollection.aspx?familyID=43402

2) http://ark.intel.com/ProductCollection.aspx?familyID=43483

3) i3 don't even bother with these at the moment.

4) Another thing you want to look forward to is USB 3.

If apple adds these it will put some serious dent on dell, hp and lenovo.

If you can wait for next year u will get good processor after intels tick tock model with some real performance increase. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Tick-Tock

I'm thinking from a business standpoint... I think Apple will try to force us to buy 15 and 17 inchers to get these new processors. then once everyone has shelled out the extra cash... upgrade the computer we all wanted.

From a business standpoint, you only can do that so many times before your customers get frustrated enough that they move on to another company. The best long term plan isn't to maximize every single transaction.

I would anticipate 6,1 will be the major system refresh for the Macbook Pro that will include Light Peak among other items.

Nothing uses lightpeak at the moment, why in hells name would they waste a port on the already very limited space on LightPeak. Its not even finished! USB 3 maybe, lightpeak, dream on.

I think they might...the "6,1" model number would certainly be a likely indication of hardware upgrades outside of a processor, and based on the articles below...I think it makes sense...light peak will be out this year...intel's CEO at CES said Light Peak components will be shipping this year.

Intel is planning to supply the controller chip, and is working with other component manufacturers to deliver all the Light Peak components. We expect that the components will be ready to ship in 2010.

Intel, Apple aim Light Peak connection standard for 2010 delivery

Mr. Jobs also dropped a few hints at what's in store for the company through 2010, according to Mac Rumors. Apparently, Mac updates planned for the year will "take Apple to the next level,"

haha! No way! I've already waited a few months to get one and sell my 24" iMac.

If anything, since I get a discount, I'll sell the arrandale a week before the (projected) release of this "tick tock" processor....That way even if I do come up short, it will only be around $200

Yes because i7 Arrandale has the new 32nm transistor (they are built on the older 45nm and 65nm transistors), where as the i7 Clarksfield has a 45nm transistor. The battery life is also much more efficient with the 32nm transistors.

No news about the graphics though?!? :(

I think this next notebook revision will make the MACBOOK AIR a viable candidate for pro users (being that they have a Mac Pro at home).

It's all been said before, but if Apple decides to up the RAM & SSD/HD capacity and stick with the same pricing or even lower it by $100 with the next Air then, I will be 100% positive that will be either the best seller or 2nd bestseller, next to the 15" notebook pros.

For those who complain about lack of I/O. They do make flash drives that store a great amount for people who will be on the go. Again the Air is a very capable complimentary notebook (and for some their only notebook).

That's why we have Time Capsule & iDisk & Third party external hard drives & adapters so you can plug in a FW cable. Ohhhh yeah not to mention BACK TO MY MAC feature

Someone asked how 5260 compares to other Macs.

A MacPro Xeon 5160 3,0 Ghz 4 core or Early 2008 MP Xeon E5462 2.8 Ghz 4 core is only slightly better.

It's FASTER than a Late 2006 X-serve 2.66 Ghz 4 core, MacPro Xeon 5150 2.66 Ghz 4 core, Early 2009 iMac C2D 3.06 Ghz 2 core, and Early 2008 as well.

So, it's "faster than a 2006 X-serve, 2008 MacPro, and 2009 iMac". On single workstation end user tasks.

I have a late-2006 17" MBP bought in January 2007.

I got 3169 in Geekbench. Moore's law dictates that the up-coming MBPs should be getting 12676 at least, don't you think?

That is great news really. I have been waiting for a while to upgrade my aging MBP 2.33 and I almost bought one few weeks ago. I will wait and see what Apple is up to. I would be nice to have something new, nevertheless, with all the wows regarding the new iMac 27", I wonder if I should buy the more reliable and heavily tested current version of the MBP.
