Someone at InsideMacGames said the 8600 will vary its clockspeed on demand. Power usage vs. speed when called for.

Haha, dude, I was about to benchmark mine (1.5 gigs tho) but now I don't have to bother. It is annoyingly slow, isn't it. I was waiting for today's updates, guess I'll order a new MBP right away.

Yes, it's a dark day. I was in denial.

I edit video with this bad boy too. I can't begin to image how much better of i'd be with a SR C2Duo.

I have this bad boy on accidental damage replacement, which is the most effective way to trash a G4 PowerBook? 😱

The thing i thought was exiting with santa rosa, is the fact that in singlecore processes, the one core shutdown and allows the other to overclock itself until it reaches the same TDP as two cores running simultaneously.

Along with a 8600 gt thats adjusts its own speed, and LED i think we will experience a much better laptop then the old C2D.

I just ran mine and got 2874, same spec as yours but double the RAM (2.16 C2D/2GB).

I dont feel so bad now...10% gain. Meh...
 
They Do Have Backlit Led's

The Geekbench score I got was 810, so the new MBP is 4X faster then my setup! 😱

Time for an upgrade...

just to make sure everyone is clear on this, my MBP is the old model as of this morning...non Santa Rosa.

C2D 2.16Ghz, 1Gig of Ram, x1600 128mb.

...the orignial poster of this thread has a new 2.4Ghz Santa Rosa C2D with 2Gigs of ram and the Nvidia 8600M GT GPU with 256megs of memory.
 
My year old Macbook CD with 2gb of RAM scored a 2468 with a ton of applications running. I don't feel so bad about my system now.

Edit: Scored 2516 with nothing else running.

OpenGL specs and bench?

Would any of you lucky MBP-SR owners help us OpenGL developers with something?

Get the OpenGL extensions list, and possibly an OpenGL benchmark (3dmark is not *that* interesting, as that wouldn't test the Apple-provided driver). For the extensions list, try perhaps Realtech VR's OpenGL Extensions Viewer.

What the OpenGL developer community is most interested in, is to see if this first DX10/Shader model 4.0 capable card actually comes with drivers that enable those capabilites, for instance geometry shaders (GL_EXT_geometry_shader4), or if we'll have to wait for OS updates to get that.

So, any OpenGL extensions/benchmark news would be appreciated. 🙂
 
how does it feel going up to 15" from 12"?

I was thinking about doing the same, but the size/weight of the macbook pro is keeping me away (in addition to all the ultraportable rumours ofc).


is it significantly noticeable?
 
What about the Screen with led backlight

Some % extra power is nice of course , but what about the screen with Led, how does that compare to the "old" tft screens?
I reconn since there is no mention of it what so ever , that it is not that different from the old screen then. ??
