probably they will keep the same brick design with the ethernet port in the power supply aka 24" imac
so it will be proprietary port with both charging and ethernet signal in it, but i dont think Apple will remove the ability to charge over usbC like we could in the last 6 years
well, I'm just going to wait til Monday, removing USB-C charging would be a stupid move for sure.

Thing is, a laptop for me I not the primary computing device, I considered it a year or 2 ago, so I am far more intreated in what Apple has to offer with its M chips as I am going to replace my iMac in ~ 2 or so years with either a Mac mini or the new 27 replacement. And my M1 MBA is the perfect travel companion for me ...

I don’t get why people hate the notch idea. I only see two options here:

1) No notch, but also a thicker border at the top just like current models or

2) thinner borders on the top and sides with a notch that apple can hide in full screen mode

Both options you still get the same exact 16:10 screen real estate. Option 2 just adds more screen that can also be hidden easily by a miniLED blackout of the top 74 pixels.

I've been thinking along the similar lines and I am warming up to the idea. If anything, it would give one slightly more vertical space to work with most of the time. As you say, fullscreen use can simply black out the top strip rendering the same effect of a slightly thicker notch we have today. I suppose same treatment can be done for people with ridiculous menu bars. And I think a small notch as a divider between the menu bar and the status icons would definitely look cool and iconic.

I'd buy it :D

the screen resolution leaks, which came directly from Apple’s macOS beta files: 3456 by 2234 and 3024 by 1964. Subtract 74 from the height of both of them, and you get a perfect 16:10 display just like all the MacBooks on shelf right now. That 74 is probably the height of the notch in terms of pixels.
Makes sense, I see no reason why would Apple abandon 16:10 ratio.

Current MBP 16 screen height is 21.54 cm.

2234px - 74px = 2160px

So, doing simple proportion for the MBP notch height:

74 : 2160 = x : 21.54

x = 0.7379444444 cm

(iPhone 12 notch height is 0.74cm)

Could it be 74 pixels of black, with a "notch" in the middle, used to display stuff like black & white wifi and bluetooth icons (like... on a phone)

With regular Macos just below ?

WOUld make sense to me this way... No visible notch, free up space for menues...

The Unleashed graphic... all those light beams.... Face ID dot projector.

Nah, won't happen. Even the redesigned iMac doesn't have one. Looks like just a random guy having too much free time on Photoshop.

Even if it had FaceID, it would be like the iPad, on the bezel.

This site will repost literally anything. This rumors reminds me of when they posted a rumor that the Apple car would debut at the end of this year.

Everyone keeps talking about the resolution and how it makes sense when you subtract 74 pixels from the height. What about the width though? Why does the width stay the same? Honest question as I'm no display engineer.

Could the 74 pixels be in reference to rounded corners instead?

The maths seems to work out but I wouldn’t be so sure that Apple is attached to certain aspect ratios given them easily changing ratios with the iPad and iPhone redesigns. Occam's razor suggests this extra vertical screen space could just be gains from the reduction of the top and bottom bezels and them maintaining similar dimensions of the laptop itself.

This would be amazing, but it is highly implausible that the bezels would be smaller than those of the iPad Pro…

Monday 18 October 12 pm pacific time: "the notch is an iconic design like the chin on the iMacs ", apple fans say.

Well, I sure hope that this is not true. Removal of a universal port would be a step in the wrong direction. As is MagSafe. Also, audio on the left? That's odd, it's usually on the right.
well to be fair, the majority of people with the current MacBook Pro with four thunderbolt ports usually reserve one literally for an HDMI or SD card dongle, so I don’t think that they will be too disappointed to find out that the dongle is no longer necessary.
I have almost never heard of a situation where all four thunderbolt ports are being used at the same time that doesn’t involve a dongle to an HDMI, SD card, or regular USB port.

I think I’d marginally fall on the side of being pro a notch. The benefit seems to be that the overall machine can be smaller for a given display size. It would just occupy a bit of the menu bar which wouldn’t be a huge problem for 99% of apps.

Only concern would be some pro apps like Maya that have loads of menus.
Or people who has quite a few apps running in the background, where icon is occupying the menu bar. Or people who uses zoomed in macOS and want a bit more space for apps and menu items.

What a stupid rumour.

Bezels won't be thinner than the ones seen on the iPad Pro.

Wouldn’t necessarily count it out, the iPad Pro does need a slight bezel so you can hold it without touch inputs from the sides of your hands, whereas the MacBook Pro really doesn’t need that since it doesn’t have a touchscreen and you don’t hold the display

there will be at least a punch hole camera. this will prevent users from blocking the front facing camera without obstructing parts of the display. I think this is a real rumor.

for four rounded corners there are too few pixels missing...74
