You should be asking Intel where the suitable Xeon Sandy Bridge processors are. You're waiting on Intel right now. The estimated release date for those CPU's is Q4 2011 so they should be here relatively soon.

I forgot that the Mac Pros have dropped behind in the processor. Finally Sandy Bridge when the rest of the Mac lineup is going to Ivy Bridge. I guess that I have over a year wait yet for an Ivy Bridge Mac Pro. I'll have to keep my 1st Gen Mac Pro until it is 6 1/2 to 7 years old. I will probably add an ivy bridge 17" if Apple doesn't screw it up by making it thinner & making it less powerful. I use the optical drive a lot, but my main reason for wanting it kept is so that I can take it ot & adding a second hard drive. It's actually the space inside the MacBook Pro I do not want to lose. I used to carry a setup that weighed in at about 50+ pounds. So a little over 6 pounds for a 17" MacBook Pro is light enough for me.

The Sandy Bridge Xeon chips are going to be released next month.

If apple plans to follow the same pattern as on the previous MBP aluminium then there should be a redesign on the upcoming release. As MBP aluminium got a redesign in late 08'. :)

No I am hoping for a 13in with a matte 1440x900 IPS screen with a much smaller bezel, quad core Ivy Bridge, USB 3.0, and remove the optical drive to put a dedicated GPU in, and make it all 4lbs.

Yeah it's a pipe dream for next summer but here's hoping!

I'm hoping for this as well.

Personally, i don't care for optical drives, i have almost the same configuration as you do, 2.26 13'', 8 GB, but i put a 64 GB SSD in the optical slot and a 500 GB 7200 rpm toshiba in the HDD slot.

This serves me perfectly, and will have it for at least 2 more years, before i would need anything else. If it lives that long, that is. But yes, if they remove the optical drive, enlarge the battery, put the MBA SSD inside and leave an option for a regular HDD, and put discrete graphics. That would be nice. The form factor is ok now, no need to make it thinner or lighter.

But i seriously hope they will give at least the option for 14x9 resolution on the 13, with matte.

How long does it normally take between these part numbers appearing and the product actually becoming available?

I ask because my last laptop died a few weeks ago and I want to replace it. I don't want to buy the current model if there is another one right round the corner. I am getting impatient though.

I already decided not to wait for Ivy Bridge.

When is going to release macbook pro?

Hi, i'm serious. I don't want to wait for so long. When it's going to release new macbook pro?

My late 2006 cracked whitebook begs for an update. It will be one hell of an update when I'll get 2012 13-incher MBP or MBA!

What exactly would make you think we have this knowledge?

Following on from previous 3 posts, I doubt anyone outside Apple would have this knowledge, but does anyone have recollection of previous similar releases? If so, can anyone remember how long it took from the new part/model numbers appearing in the inventory list to the products actually arriving "on the shelves"?

This info would be very useful. Thanks in advance.......

Because there are indications that new MacBook Pro's are released soon. Nobody outside Apple knows exactly when that is.

Ok. It will released on next year or next month? I really hope it will releases on next month.

This is likely to be a spec-bump only update. I would be very interested in a 15'' Macbook Air though.

Personally I'm really looking forward to the next BIG update...

I can't wait (Well actually I can and will) for the rumoured Mac Book Pro Air or what ever its going to be called.

My 2006/07 13" white Macbook has done its job, it still works perfectly today so its hard to justify a machine upgrade really but quite simply I want something new and shiny. My Macbook has been used every day for years now, and been upgraded with Ram and a part SSD drive, its spent its life doing intensive animation in After Effects and design work and a spot of programming, taken on the train most days, plugged into a big monitor at home, thrown carelessly into a rucksack and used to watch kids tv on youtube by my daughter. I've probably used the DVD writer/CD reader about 40 times in the last 4 years ..and '0' times in the past year.

I'll hold out till February and hopefully the macbook of my dreams will have been launched. A super slim 15" mac book air styled machine, with a decent sized SSD harddrive, (500Gb please) and graphics performance to match the current MacBook Pros, USB 3 would'nt hurt to go along with thunderbolt...obviously if they want to do a full redesign and have the monitor be a detachable ipad than by all means please do... :)

(we just got a few thunderbolt equipped mac book pros at work and nothing to plug into it yet...but we do have a handful of USB3 drives with no usb 3 equipped machines.)

Ugh Still waiting for some news for the new Mac Pro.. Still only see iPhone news......

Glad there is finally a computer rumour going on :D

Why include something at all the fewer and fewer people are using? Should they include an external floppy too?

Pardon my ignorance, but has FireWire ever been incredibly popular? I've never owned a Mac, but I have never even seen a product that is to be used via FireWire.

no problems with my 2009 13"MBP 2.53GHz, and soon will upgrade with optibay\SSD...

so my next MBP will be when they release 13"MBP with 4 cores, better screen (like MBA) with matte option, 8GB standard, and if they will take out the DVD (even that i use it quite a lot, i can live with external...), i would like them to use the space for build-in SSD like MBA for the system - but not instead the standard HD!!! , second fan to support the 4 cores heat, and if there is extra space... way not dedicated GPU, even that i dont really need this for watching movies (my main program is logic).... but that will be nice for many ppl's :)

but before all that - RELEASE THE NEW MACPRO's !!!!!
