Just picked up mine :) Live is good now!

couple small comments (it is still transferring data from the old one):

- the width and depth of the case is actually a bit larger (note the wider frame around the LCD). Not a big deal, but if your notebook case is already tight (like mine), this will not help.
- the trackpad has a little bit less friction then the old one (I like it)
- the monitor does reflect more. I am personally more a fan of non-glossy screens, but I am not a graphics artist and the screen is great overall.
- non of the mini-display port adapters are available at this point.
- my old macbook pro (very first intel one) only has FW 400... transfer works fine so far using an adapter cable I got at the Apple store ($30... probably cheaper elsewhere, but this one is white ;-) ).
- speaker area is smaller, and the holes are much smaller. From the startup sound, the quality is similar to the old one.
- the monitor tilts back A LOT more then the old one (Great!)

- did I mention it looks gorgeous ? ;-)

comment on the next to last pic...

delete it...nobody wants to be lookin at your junk...compliments of that glossy screen!

Thanks! It's always difficult to see because of the way the lens sees the glass/antireflective layer, but it does look very even and that makes excited about upgrading later on.....even though I really don't need to, and I really should not.. (convincing myself not to, as I always do before I give in)

Thanks again for posting the pictures!

It seems pretty good. Maybe the best of the screens I've had so far. Not sure if the screens on these new ones are better or it is just my good luck for a change. I never need the new one and I try to convince myself not to buy it but I do any way. My wife says I have few vices so if I want a computer she goes for it. We just ebay the older one or she takes it. Quite a process.. Go ahead and get it as you know you will:)

I seem to be able to ignore the reflection. It's strange but I don;t see it unless I focus on it. But I still think its a bad idea not to offer folks a choice of matte or glossy. Overall I agree with you the screen is nice. Good luck with yours.

Had to laugh at the second one

because it shows how these new MBPs will be perfectly useful in their second life (Maybe first one too!) as an ultramodern mirror!!:D

Sure, what color back ground? Light or dark? No yellow tint at all I can see. I changed the profile as well to one I had on my previous MacBook Pro. So it looks great to me.

Yes, it is always the way things feel:)

Yeah,..... no yellow tint on the picture shot from the side,....hope mine's like that as well,.... knock on wood.

teerexx52: is the display real glass or just some translucent plastic?

This is very important since plastic is much more subject to scratches...

How about image and color quality? Is it the sames as the old MBP, or better?

Regards

I can't tell for sure but my wife and I think it's glass. I put it side by side with my other macbook pro and screens were very similar in color quality. I use a different color profile other than the standard one. The standard one looked too washed out for me. But they are very close edge to the new one. Oh and yes it is reflective big time

First of all, congratulations to those of you who bought the new MBP. I know you're excited, as you should be. It's always a fun day when you get a new Mac! My comments aren't meant to disparage anyone's new MBP.

Having said that, I may be alone in this, but I prefer the old MBP. I don't like the glossy of the new one, and I don't like the black border around the screen or the black keyboard. I think it cheapens the look. I don't know why they can't offer options for different color keyboards: black, white, silver. Also, I don't know why the wide black border around the screen is necessary. Why not fill the screen to the edge? Or let the color of the border be user-definable? The black just takes away from the sleek futuristic look of the aluminum, in my opinion.

I second that!
Or maybe the black portion was touch screen for dock items and widgets.

I tell ya what would have been slick
tinting the aluminum black, then the keys and the bezel soak in, but still seem to float. they've got the iPod in a variety of colors, so why can't they make an MBP black (or red or purple or whatever ?)
offer them as options in BTO orders

surely someone with some Photoshop skills can mock up a black one of these

Have you seen it in person or just in the pictures? I think they look much better in person. Just got one an hour ago. Haven't powered it on yet to test, but played with them in the Apple store first (got the last 2.53GHz they had).

In person. The build quality is excellent, but the glossy glare is intolerable. The black keyboard and border is a mistake, in my opinion. I have even greater appreciation for my "old" MBP now. I'm happy waiting for the Nehalem processors. Hopefully, Apple will offer some design options and a matte screen by then.

the REFLECTION is really a deal breaker..

i don't know how people can say that the previous gen looks outdated already after the side by side pix..

All i see is a Macbook PRO and the bigger Macbook AIR on the side.

for the previous gen MBP to be truly outdated.. i'd say have the new MBP in a Gun metal Gray color.. that's the REAL DEAL!

congrats lovely pics. Hvw fun with that baby!!

I mean despite a lot of others not liking the new look, me included, I think we'll all get used to it, and the thing is Apple is not going to change it for at least the next 3.5 years.

I like the black keyboard but not the black bezel. Still..i do like the new technological improvements.

Nice pictures, make me want to get my hands on my new Macbook Pro I've ordered sooner. Too bad that I'm still waiting on the shipment from Apples:(

Dated...plzzz. I know I am not the only one who thinks the original MBP is better looking and more refined. And that glossy screen would make me scream!

I agree with that. I didn't like the pictures I saw of the new one. But in person I really did like the appearance

Congrats on the new MBP...looks amazing.

Can I ask what you plan to do with the old one? I want to upgrade to the new one as well but don't know how to get rid of my current one. Grr...

Wow, really, really nice! I cannot wait to get mine! The older MBP DOES look dated. The keyboard looks like it is from the '80s haha. Congrats!
