Will apple just release them or will there be a big event showcasing them? I have a MBP 16" M1 MAX and desperate to upgrade!

“could arrive as soon as Monday, March 2”

Yet 5-6 months after the base M5? Is strange and not ideal imo.
Probably because TSMC is allocating more of their production capacity for the more profitable NVidia (and AMD) chips

New MacBook Pro models with the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips could arrive as soon as Monday, March 2, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

In today's "Power On" newsletter, Gurman said that the release of new MacBook Pro models is tied to the release of macOS Tahoe 26.3. The launch is said to be slated for as early as the week of March 2. He added that the M4 Pro and M4 Max models on sale today remain in short supply, indicating that the launch of new models is close.

Updated Mac Studio models "shouldn't arrive too long after the spring Mac refresh," according to Gurman. A new Studio Display and Mac mini continue to be on Apple's roadmap for this year, along with an all-new low-cost MacBook powered by an iPhone chip. The most significant Mac launch this year will be overhauled MacBook Pro models with OLED displays and touch support.

So, next week then? Gurman usually gets these wrong.

False. But of course nothing is officially official until Apple themselves announces it, so I guess we'll have to wait and see...
I personally wouldn't waste my time or money on this stopgap M5 Pro/Max model however.
I really like the M1Pro so getting an M5 in the same form factor is appealing. My MBP screen is my secondary display with a 4k monitor as the primary and I don’t need OLED for that, especially as it sits very static most of the time and would be at risk of ghosting.

Apple news aside, I am a Mark Gurman Power On subscriber. That means I get his email about this news already, but I didn't get the chance to read it yet. It's still in my inbox and I got 10's of unread emails there right now. However, I just read it for 'free' here on Macrumors. Somehow, I get this feeling that I don't see the value of subscribing to Bloomberg and read his newsletter, because Macrumors will eventually publish it.. for free. Sure, this website is filled with ads which I have to watch (like right now, I'm getting Sixt ads about their rental offers), but I read the news for free.

There is no shot we’re getting the OLED MacBook Pro this year. Especially with this timing. M5 Pro and Max in March?? If we’re lucky, we get the M6 in the same old 14” chassis later this year, with the redesigned models coming early 2027.
At this point the base M5 MBP will be in the refurb store. /s 😝

6 months after the base M5 and 6 months before the M6 OLED remodel? Interesting...
Don’t forget the iMac. I thought moving to AS would mean more predictable timelines and product releases with the exception of any showstoppers. Maybe Apple should have waited on releasing the base M5 MBP late 2025.

Still sitting on 16" M1 Pro, it is just such a solid product. No issues at all, mechanically tight tolerances. Speed is lovely for everyday tasks and amateur photo editing. Same with recent iPhones. Apple has just made too damn good products for their own good. Kind of like the old Mercedes cars that have legendary reputation. It just works.

OLED would be good but not a game changer, not something I'd buy a new computer for specifically. Touch screen is a gimmick for me, never used it on Windows products. AI integration is a factor but honestly, I'd prefer to control what data is linked to me and thus I'm skeptical of built in AI solutions. I think I prefer 3rd party for anonymity.
