Because regardless of anything else, he brings a lot of attention to Forbes with the stuff he makes up. He’s really good at driving traffic and at getting folks to subscribe to him/them. As long as he continues to spout really OUT THERE analysis, he’ll continue to get them ad views.

New MacBook Pros Could Now Arrive in March

Mr. Onion Head is always likes that. Anybody can do his job.
Maybe they should just release the new hardware, forget about the whole rubbish os26 and focus on redeveloping os27?
I'm wondering this about the studios
m4 studios have been showing up on the refurb store and then vanishing very quickly
they may be an even better deal than they seem already if the new studio prices increase significantly
I doubt Apple could withstand the temptation to earn more when everyone is increasing the prices

One guess I have: I think they have to wait for macOS 26.3 (aside from OS support for the hardware) is because they know people are going to be speed checking them in reviews and it will become noticeable how macOS 26 has slowed them down compared to Sequoia.
Maybe 26.3 fixes a lot of those major performance and battery draining issues? I haven't checked what people are saying about the GM beta yet but just a thought.

Apple has also waited in the past, from what we were told by the rumour mill, because macOS was not up to snuff for Pros and Apple knew it and so waited to release the hardware until certain updates fixed certain problems. Then they released the new Pro hardware. Maybe this is one of those times.

Because the competition has caught and passed Apple in several areas of laptop design. I was really impressed by the current slate of gaming laptops from Lenovo and Asus. The Lenovo Legion 7i is beautiful in Glacier White, has impressive build quality, and is a 16" laptop that weighs 10% less than the MBP 16. The MBP design has room for improvement, especially the chunky 16.
Don't know whether there will be a March event. But it looks like Apple might launch the MacBook Pro along with the M5 Air update. Think the rest of the Macs, including mini and the Studio Display might launch at WWDC. Think there will most likely be an event in October/November to release the redesigned MacBook Pro.

Ok. Let be honest, what are the M5 Pro and M5 Max going to offer that the M4 models don’t for productivity, for about 99% of the MX Pro/Max market? It just seems unwise to invest in such expensive hardware just to be replaced with new design, new screens (OLED), etc devices in 7-9 months time (rumored).
With Apple Silicon we’re at the point where we have more than sufficient power to do pretty much whatever anyone could want. People are still rocking M1 Macs and perfectly satisfied with machines that don’t feel dated—thats how far Apple leaped ahead with it. Each new M chip keeps the target moving and leaves the competition scrambling. The new entry level MacBook is going to wade into the mainstream market with a chip roughly equal to or better than the M1 and could take a serious chunk of that market. If they pull it off they’re going to make most of the mainstream devices feel really outdated and cheap. The new MacBook is coming along at a time when the mainstream market is particularly vulnerable with escalating prices for very mediocre hardware.
Furthermore, although MacOS certainly isn’t perfect, there is a growing dissatisfaction with Windows 11 weighed down with constant popups and bloatware. Lots of people wanting to stick with or go back to Windows 10.

Considering the capability of these machines since 2020 the performance increase from generation to generation isn’t likely to make much difference to your daily usage. So an M4 Pro or M4 Air will be plenty capable for whatever you want to do whereas you don’t need to wait for the M5 or M6 redesign. And you’ll likely be saving some money.
Consider having a 450hp muscle car as your daily driver. Is having a 470-500hp muscle car really going to improve your daily driving?
The most important area is “being compatible with macOS”. Anyone that NEEDS that level of performance from a macOS system is not going to find it anywhere else. For those that don’t need macOS, well THEN they have options. 🙂

I am wondering how much the delayed launch of the M5 MacBook Pro will impact sales, especially with the M6 MacBook Pro expected in late 2026 or early 2027 and rumored to be a full redesign. At this point, it feels like only people who truly need to upgrade will choose the M5. I am still using an M1, and for now, I plan to wait for the M6.
These are years out long term contracts with manufacturers not immediate street pricing. The prices are very locked.
The GPU in them is fantasticNot necessarily true. But of course nothing is officially official until Apple themselves announces it, so I guess we'll have to wait and see...
I personally wouldn't waste my time or money on this stopgap M5 Pro/Max model however.

The timing of a new case and screen are unrelated to the timing of the M5 Pro chip being ready for production.
I can only speak to my personal situation. Aside from the additional GPUs, the big feature for me in the M5 Pro/Max models is Thunderbolt 5. Yes, the M4 Pro/Max has all those things, but based on the M5 numbers we've already seen, the M5 Pro/Max will have 15% greater performance and more than 25% faster memory bandwidth over their M4 counterparts. These benefit everything, not just graphics or AI.
I have a 13" M1 MBP that I use for photography, and it's been straining since the end of my 2024 season. I'm a hobbyist, and my subjects are seasonal, so I can wait until March or April. If it gets toward late April or May and there's no M5 Pro or Max in sight, I can certainly get an M4 Pro or Max, and I know that will be a great machine that will keep me going for another five years, which is my usual replacement cycle.
I can wait for the M5 Pro/Max, but I'm not at all interested in the M6. Aside from the wait, I don't care about a "new design", or OLED, or touchscreen, or more square corners, or a few tenths of a millimeter less thickness, or whatever other wonderful things the rumors are saying. I've learned not to buy the first redesigned model of anything, whether it's a computer or a car, and the current MacBook Pros are mature and reliable products.
If the rumored new features of the M6 are important to you, and you're willing to wait, don't let me stop you.
Why is everybody so spun up about OLED? Don't tell me "blacker blacks, whiter whites, and higher contrast". Tell me what it really means for you, and how it will improve what you do with your laptop. I'm genuinely curious that maybe I'm missing something.
I do photo processing with my MBP, but not with the built-in screen. It's too small. Even a 16" screen would be too small. When I'm doing that kind of work, I'm connected to a color-calibrated external 27" monitor. I could understand wanting OLED for that, but for a laptop screen, it seems like it's just marketing hype.
