Sounds to me like they'd be shipping new models to people who order today. This tells me that the pricing will be the same except for potentially the new high end 17'' that is on the Russian website. Think about it. If you order a stock 15'' MBP for 1999 they aren't going to ship you a $2,099 new MBP. So the question is what does the stock $1,999 new MBP look like in terms of specs. I would also guess this means that they aren't removing the ODD for the stock models. I sure hope they make it an option though on the BTOs.

My guess would be for that price we are going to get SB processor and SSD (prob 128), maybe some new i/o like possibly lightpeak and not too much else. Longer battery life, maybe slightly lighter and maybe some new technology on the trackpad. Thoughts?

Also think that the MBPs might be a few weeks out and this may be the iPad 2...just a gut sense.

Sandy Bridge Broken?

I posted this in another Macbook thread and got no response. Isn't parts of Sandy Bridge broken? And if so why would I buy a computer that uses it?

It's fixed

It's not FIXED! (At least these models supposedly released on Thursday wont be)

There's 2 ports that work (of the 6) and I guess the MBP's only use two ports so they'll be using the unaffected ports...but I still don't like that they aren't using the fully fixed ones that started shipping out on February 14th.

I'll probably sit back a month after these are released to guarantee I get a fully fixed one.

Source?

Now all MBP's have a shipping time of 3-5 business days on the UK site !!!

The time is nigh...

I'm not seeing the new mbp in best buys system any more. Does that mean it's not any time soon?

better vid card?

I'm hoping apple decided to put decent video card in this refresh. A 460M equivalent would be nice...

Even better would be 470M or 485M but I wont get my hopes up.

A dude earlier said that the SB issue is still not fixed. He d that of the 6 USB ports just the two are able to work.

BUT if that is true then that means that IF Apple is using SB and IF it uses only the two out of 6 ports then that means that the 17" is still not getting refreshed because it has 3 USB ports(if I am right).

OR LP is on the way!

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Best Buy should take a look at those pallets. It would make huge news and my Best Buy store doesn't really sell that many Macs anyway since they're delegated to a closet in the back of the store.

Sandy Bridge chipset recall and MBP refresh

I read that intel is shipping chipsets despite the fact they are not totally fixed because of pressure of vendors such as APPLE. That being said are any of you in a hurry to purchase the MBP with that in mind? Im definitely up for the laptop but am not sure about buying because of the chipset issue.

Here is why I think there will be NO press conference.

1. Steve is sick. Too sickly to get up on stage and talk, if he does down goes the stock price.

And yet is well enough to be seen WALKing on the campus, WALKing in his doctors office possibly for a standard checkup and WALKing and TALKing at the dinner with the Pres

2. If they had a conference someone else would need to speak. Likely a mixture between Scott Forstall, Schiller, Mansfield, and maybe Ives.

They have been mixing it up for a while, even with Steve there.
A conference isn't the same without Jobs, and we don't need more negative PR based on bad-speakers and no sign of Jobs.

Steve could stay away simply so folks will focus on the products, evnthough he could be in great health and expected to live another ten years.

And if the products are even half decent there will be more than enough positive PR that no one will care who presented the deets

3. Apple realized Jobs may be out of the picture soon (god forbid) but it's possib Apple has no real front-runner to take his place.

His name is Tim Cook. He was handpicked by Steve is currently in charge with Steve's blessing for the second time.

Sure, Scott has the face for it,

The face for it?

Didn't realize it was a beauty contest. Will there be a swimsuit contest or are going straight to the talent portion

they want to get people used to releases WITHOUT conferences. People have come to expect amazing things from apple every time with a media event.

First off, this release is still just a rumor. Second we don't know how big a release it could be. If they are updatingth processors an nothing else, that is not worth a huge event.

Last IF they choose to do a smaller event it could have nothing to do with Steve, who could be there even if just for moral support, and everything to do with the local venues being booked up already and/or not wanting their rental leaked to the world

The issue never had anything to do with USB, but the SATA ports, which thus far have only been used for the HDD and SuperDrive on Apple laptops (no eSATA or 2 HDDs). If Apple doesn't add a device using one more SATA to the laptops, then the problem should not affect any Apple laptops.

I so tire of people saying that. Its a real problem. When trying to convert people to Macs many see the prices and features of the current laptops and laugh it off. Really, they don't pass the laugh test.

The prices are stupid. The white one should be 699 at most and the others should start at 899. I will be waiting on the next iMac, I don't mind their price as at least the screens are cutting edge whereas the laptops are only cutting edge if you consider their weight/size to be worth the price. Seeing that many rarely move (as in many people I know with laptops rarely move them around unless they are after starbucks cred its not like the weight will matter). If weight is an issue I would stick with MBAs

An anti-Apple friend of mine mentioned the excessive cost of Apple computers today when I mentioned I wanted a new one. I simply stated that Apple's MBP line hadn't been updated in 10 months, and that Apple doesn't lower their prices over time. I told him that when the new models are released, they will be very competitively priced (which is true). His response was something along the lines of "Oh, fair enough."

Officially fixed Cougar Point chipsets shipped to manufacturers on the 14th of February. Therefore, Apple has already had a full week to fix any MBPs that use more than 2 SATA ports. There are no problems with any MBPs that use two or less SATA ports. Delaying your purchase based on this issue is in my opinion acute hypochondria.

Furthermore, there is no guarantee that MBPs will be announced this week, and may not ship immediately once they are. If any MBP could be affected by the SATA issue, Apple will use a fixed board. If the MBP wouldn't be affected, it doesn't matter.

ie, nobody (except Intel, and a lesser extent Apple) need to worry about the SATA 2 fault.

Some folks would say similar things about all their stuff. But as a friend of mine pointed out, you are paying for more than just the computer. That Apple Tax is real. And just like your other taxes pay for schools etc, at Apple it oats for workshops, those nifty setups they do or folks an so on. No other company does that stuff and free for big parts of it.

If you pay for it and don't use any of it that is on you.

ok its Tuesday and even Wed in some parts of the world now. Nobody has gotten the pallettes yet anywhere world wide???? If these are to release on Thursday and Apple is telling retailers to expect shipment as soon as yesterday (monday) where are the pallettes? Where are the MBP's??
