I’m hoping to hold out for the M6 but I take so many pictures I’d like more storage.
Waiting will build character 🤭
If storage is all that's limiting you while waiting for the M6, I've used Lightroom Classic on files from an external Thunderbolt 4 SSD. It didn't feel any slower than the internal SSD, but LR itself has been pushing the limits of my machine lately (13" 2020 M1 MBP with 16GB RAM).

I have been thinking about this too. I think the thinness is going to be 2016 all over again with all the heat and some other compromises.

I am hoping that this time Apple has learned from its mistakes and has done all sorts of testing to ensure that the new ones aren’t a regression from a ports/throttling standpoint. I also hope they continue to improve the speakers.

I currently have an M4 Max 14” and had an M3 Pro 16” before that and a 13” M1 before that. I upgrade frequently to stay on the latest tech. I am thinking I get this M5 Max and wait and see on the new ones to see what catastrophic failure they have in terms of design.
Even if they are not a catastrophic failure, keeping MBP thick keeps it distinct from the much thinner MBA. Thin and light, or power, as I suggested in my edited comment. Physics is physics. A chunkier model enables bigger speakers and bigger, better cooling. They want it to be thinner to make it seem cool in marketing, not because it's a right decision from a product and product lineup standpoint. Apple IMO needs a pair of fresh eyes to come in and call out the bs and cull as much as possible from the product and services lineup.

After over 30 years as a Windows user my first Mac might be close now.

Configuration decided (14” 24GB/1TB M5 Pro MacBook Pro) - Check
Credit card ready - Check
Apple Store app installed on iPad & logged in - Check

Over to you now Apple.

After watching a gazillion YouTube videos about other people’s experiences of moving from Windows to MacOS and also a whole load of more general purpose instructional videos about how to do various things in MacOS I really can’t wait to get started with my transition.
you’re going to love it!

if you have an Apple Card take a look at the 0% financing for 12 month offer, you get 3% cash back immediately too

Isn't the iPhone 17e supposed to launch sometime in February? Since neither the updated m5 MBP or the budget iPhone refresh are expected to get anything other than a press-release, no actual keynote event or anything, I would just expect Apple to launch them together on same date. Why not just launch both on Valentines Day.

I think apple does its biggest price increases on models that get the modest of updates. If they charge more for those the next model will have something new in it. Its like the previous models pay for the R&D of the model that comes after.

I am definitely looking forward to a much thinner and lighter M6 MBP 16. I had a 16" Legion 7i 2025 gaming laptop last year. It was beautiful in Glacier White, thin as the MBP, yet 10% lighter and all-day battery life if switched to the iGPU. It was one of the few Windows laptops I was really impressed with and the 2026 model is even thinner and lighter. Apple needs to do better with the MBP chassis as competition has caught up in design.

The only reason I returned the Legion 7i is because I didn't really need two laptops and already have a powerful-enough Windows mini PC alongside my M4 Pro MBP. However, the Legion 7i could easily serve as my sole laptop/computer. That is how bad things have gotten with Apple and MacOS, that I could even consider going back to Windows exclusively after switching to Mac over 10 years ago. Apple has become stale and the competition has stayed hungry. I am hoping the M6 rekindles some excitement for the MBP.

if this things confirmed to get the 5G cell chip in it, i'll totally upgrade my work M2 Max to an M5 Max just so i can use it in the field without worrying about hotspots.

Come on, it’s Gurman. The guy that gets paid a paycheck to dream nonsense. It’s sad that we only have Kuo or Gurman to listen to about anything. There must be other people who are more accurate and not as greedy to control the field.
