Luckily for me, I returned my 2016 version.

I could deal with the crappy keyboard or the lack of ports or the useless touchbar, but I cannot deal with the oversized touchbar. It feels too weird to rest my palm on it and as soon as I felt the random cursor syndrome, I immediately returned it.

Oh Johnny. What have you done?

What's nonsense is the constant need for some to forgive all of Apple's moronic design decisions, of which this is one. There's absolutely zero need for the trackpad to be this big. And the palm rejection ISNT great. It's not even good.
I don't think anyone on this forum would consider me an Apple apologist by any stretch of the imagination.

I just got a 2017 a month ago. I’ve already noticed the random cursor syndrome. A few times it has caused me to accidentally start typing in the middle of another sentence or paragraph, or even delete stuff accidentally. It’s garbage.

It looks like user experiences vary. Palm rejection is flawless for me. I love the big trackpad because I use gestures a lot (Better Touch Tool) and I can get to it easily without really lifting my hands from the keyboard (or at least not very far). I use a 2015 MacBook Pro (work) and a 2016 MacBook Pro (personal). I often grab the 2016 because of the big trackpad.

Yes I believe the trackpad is far too big. It gets in the way as you are typing.

It's amazing how Apple screwed up the MBP redesign.

1. Trackpad too big.
2. Terrible keyboard prone to failure.
3. Lack of ports (dongle life).
4. Gimmick Touch Bar.
5. No MagSafe.

No wonder the 2015 MBP is still selling so well.

I don't think it's too big, it took me about two weeks to stop accidentally hitting it while typing on my wife's 2017. Overall, for how we use our MacBooks (photography, design and retouching), its a great improvement. Each to their own?

1. Meh - I think it’s fine.
2. Keyboard is definitely better, maybe it’s prone to failure.
3. Lack of legacy ports is a good thing lol. Why would I want some junkie display port or SD card sit like it’s 2008?
4. Mostly agreed, although touchid is good.
5. Don’t really miss it - but understandable.

You can avoid accidentally touching the trackpad whilst typing if you are tall and sitting at a low table.

But if you sit in an armchair with the laptop on your knees, you need to retain some contact with wrists or outside edges of hands in order to stop the laptop tipping - or slipping - off. When you reach inwards with your index fingers to hit keys in the middle of the keyboard your hands naturally rotate inwards (which is where they should be anyway, but remember you're trying to hold the machine!) at which point your palms at the base of your thumbs are going to hit the trackpad. Unless you're a triple jointed alien with non-human characteristics!! :D

LOL WHAT? Dude I'm a Highschool student, I need a laptop that can connect to projectors without carrying around a bag full of dongles! Seriously, go to a BestBuy and try to buy a (kinda) cheap Thumb Drive that's USB-C, you cant!

Why would I buy a USB drive?

And yes maybe right this second you need an adapter, but then the next projector will be USB-C, so a machine with legacy ports will then need an adapter. Not to mention most of the time most ports on older Macs are completely unused. Having all-USB-C means you can use all of your ports all of the time.

I have a 2015 MBP. The HDMI gets used but the useless SD card and display port slots? Never used. I work at a Fortune 20 company. All of our new software engineers get new MBPs. New monitors are USB-C. Any serious company is doing the same.

Superior design decision? Forcing us to use a series of dongles and adapters is not a sign of good design my friend.

Yes it’s a superior design decision. Having a bunch of unused ports, hoping and praying that the conference you go to has HDMI or Display port or carrying around adapters if they don’t is poor design. Everybody using USB-C is way better.

You are dead wrong on this front.

Not sure what else to say. It’s clearly a better design. Why would you want multiple, inferior I/O ports that have different physical characteristcs? It’s like arguing you want a cassette, DVD, Blue-Ray, and floppy drive in a computer. Nonsense.
No. Rather it's nonsense to imply that Apple didn't remove extremely important ports and simply force us now to use dongles or hubs.

You seem utterly oblivious to the enormous backlash online to this move. And it's not a vocal minority on this forum. It's everywhere from YouTube vids to editorials from major tech publications. It's a terrible decision by Apple to make most of us inconvenienced and to pay the price for accessories just for the sake of a slightly lighter MBP.

It's just one of several terrible decision by Apple on this redesigned MBP.

I see a lot of misunderstanding and pain as we go from a world full of ****** ports and design failures to a world where you don’t have to hope and pray they have HDMI or whatever other garbage connection interface that’s flavor of the year in China.

1. Agree too large. Still hit it after almost two years of use.

2. Yes, prone to failure. I think I am going in for the 4 keyboard. Lost track. I would say we are at about 65% replacement across the machines.

3. Ambivalent. Have always had to carries adapters/dongles. So for us, nothing new. I will write, that it seems the ports are wearing faster and the cords/dongles seem to fall out much more easily.

4. Yes. See no use. More downside. Especially when the esc button freezes . . .

5. A big yes. We are very mobile and can not tell you how difficult it has been to relearn to be careful without the MagSafe. In fact, if I belonged to the tin hat crowd, I would say Apple did this purposefully in a bid to sell more computers after the cord snagged, laptops went flying and a replacement was necessary . . . .
