I see a lot of misunderstanding and pain as we go from a world full of ****** ports and design failures to a world where you don’t have to hope and pray they have HDMI or whatever other garbage connection interface that’s flavor of the year in China.
Problem is that no one uses USB-C.

Having “all the ports” is intrinsically a poor design decision - and even then you’re just saying that some arbitrary amount of ports aren’t on the laptop. Where is DVI? Etc. oh guess I have to buy an adapter for that.

The whole argument is moot. One port for everything and a wireless future is a superior future. If you want to have PS-2 support or VGA you’ll have to buy singles or buy a different brand.

If Acer can create a 15.6" laptop that weighs 2.2 lbs with all these ports than Apple absolutely could have included them on the MBP redesign.

I love how you think having options with ports equals bad design. This mindset literally is nonsense.

One port is not for everything. You are simply forcing customers to buy adapters and dongles that were no longer needed before. As if the MBP didn't cost a fortune to begin with.

A wireless future is a superior future? Many of us still need to use corded peripherals. That isn't going away anytime soon.

This is what you aren't getting. They aren't desired. This idea that you need these specific ports with low utilization and random availability is what's nonsense here.

One port is not for everything.

Well of course not if you keep perpetuating this idea that you need USB, HDMI, Thunderbolt, Displayport, DVI, VGA, and whatever other port ideas you can come up with instead of just, oh, idk, one port that's superior to all of those?

Except they were needed and you're just not realizing it. Let's say you needed to plug in two HDMI peripherals. Now what? With USB-C you're good to go, just plug USB-C directly into one of the four ports.

A wireless future is a superior future? Many of us still need to use corded peripherals. That isn't going away anytime soon.

Future, which implies a future state. And it can't come soon enough. Next thing you'll be telling me that we shouldn't have wireless charging because you want to plug in your headphones or something to your iPhone.

Good to know you live on a planet (separate from earth) where people don't desire these ports on their laptops.

Yes one port that now requires countless dongles and adapters. Awesome! Thanks!

We are nowhere close to having all wireless peripherals. I can't believe I even have to write this sentence.

I didn't suggest people don't desire these ports. The desire itself is what I'm criticizing. It's faulty.

Well, one port that won't require countless dongles and adapters. Why would it? The next monitor you buy with your USB-C MacBook Pro would obviously have USB-C I/O. o_O

I mean, I understand you're just trying to push some view based on your bias, but if you're going to try to be flippant about it you should at least be humorous.

Me either, seeing as I gave no suggestion to how close we were to all wireless peripherals.

Why would I buy a USB drive?

And yes maybe right this second you need an adapter, but then the next projector will be USB-C, so a machine with legacy ports will then need an adapter. Not to mention most of the time most ports on older Macs are completely unused. Having all-USB-C means you can use all of your ports all of the time.

I have a 2015 MBP. The HDMI gets used but the useless SD card and display port slots? Never used. I work at a Fortune 20 company. All of our new software engineers get new MBPs. New monitors are USB-C. Any serious company is doing the same.

Please tell me you are trolling! HDMI is just now getting to the point of being ubiquitous for presenting off of a computer. USB-C will not be the default display port in the lifetime of the current MacBook Pro (5-7 years). The "serious" company thing is ridiculous. Companies notoriously hang on to reliable and tested equipment. They are loath to adopt the "hot new tech" which is where I would classify USB-C at this point. And lastly, a wireless future??? I would never rely on wireless anything to help me with a mission critical task. If I am presenting for example, ideally I am plugged into to HDMI and ethernet, and if there is need for a mouse or keyboard, it is wired too. Changing batteries or dropping a connection will never be acceptable in that situation. But hey, what do I know? You work for a Fortune 20 company.

Working for a Fortune 20 company has nothing to do with me pointing out why USB-C is a better design choice, it’s just an observation given that when new developers arrive we send them on their merry way with a 2017 MacBook Pro and everybody seems happy. Our new peripherals are USB-C or wireless.

It’s so strange that there’s just a huge group of people that want less utilization and a variety of ports so you have to hope and pray you have the right one. You have 1 HDMI port that can display video? Nice I have 4. You can plug in 2 USB keyboards? I can plug in 4, and charge through the same ports.

All I can say is we have a 2016MBP 13", and a 2017MBP 13" in our home, and we love both. In the beginning I was worried the trackpad would be too big, now I love it; I was also concerned about the USBC ports; no problem there either.

My moto has always been: "Change Is The Future", and I've learned to fully embrace it!

Doesn't get in the way of typing at all. Those who say they aren't buying because the trackpad will get way of typing are just admitting their own ignorance. It's designed extremely well. It works extremely well. Try one out and see for yourself.

Theophil, no need to be insulting. Obviously, you're a guy. Your hands are larger. This trackpad is way too large and sends the cursor flying each time I write. Please respect other peoples opinions and experiences

I have to wonder if this has something to do with how some people place their hands and wrists when using their laptop. I am not saying there is a wrong way, people are just different. I have big hands and have never had an issue, not one time.

I’m extremely happy with the late 2017 15”MBP w/T.B. I absolutely love how gigantic the trackpad is, for editing my fashion illustrations, scrubbing through my music vids and editing photos, building my websites and writing endless blogs - really is game changing with this gigantic trackpad, how much further i can drag things across the entire screen, highlight entire pages etc etc, so amazingly perfect. I type properly, by hovering my wrist above the trackpad so i never have the issue of accidental tracking, it’s not easy to accidentally track during typing, never had that issue. It would be amazing if eventually the trackpad is the size of the entire area of the lower keyboard region and becomes like a WACOM tablet yes !!!!!!!!

I'm not a fan, but in my search for a new laptop (and looking at windows machines), it seems other makers are copying apple in providing oversized trackpads.

Just take a look at the new Razer

Why they didn't do fingerprint in the power button and include the IR camera for Windows Hello... so odd to me. For that price it definitely should have at least one (probably both) options.

No question on the finger print, but maybe they didn't have room for IR camera on the bezel. Unlike Dell that put its camera on the bottom for a nose cam affect, Razer has it on the thin top bezel. I'm making a guess here, I have no idea. the reviews I've read and/or watched mentioned that it odd to not include some sort of biometrics. I use Windows Hello on my Surface Book, its a nice feature

It's odd omission but for me, not one that impacts or bothers me

Yeah I probably overstated my issue with it, I would just like to log in with a fingerprint or Windows Hello. Makes use of password managers easier as well. Otherwise the Razor does look like one of the best 15 machines currently. Either that or Dell XPS 15 I guess.

I think you're right on the money here.

It could be also that Razer didn't feel the investment/R&D on including biometrics would increase sales much due to their targetted demographic? Only reason I say this is, it has gone through so many iterations and still no biometrics. All speculation of course.

Yep, good point, its a laptop aimed at gamers. I'm not a gamer, but I really do like what I see in the laptop and this model is on my short list.

MBP of course, Dell, Lenovo and as I mentioned Razer.

Having spent far too much time looking into the alternatives it looks like they all have quirks :) Dell XPS 15 9570 (keyboard issues), Lenovo P52s (head / fan issues)

...and I just know I will get kicked in the nuts with high DPI stuff too :) roll on Tuesday with fingers crossed....

Nothing is perfect, I've had good luck with Dell in the past, I'm liking the Yoga but right now my favorite is the Razer 15".
