Fold in is not the issue, its folding back so you can make the iPad flat with the case still on. It does not appear that it will do more than a Macbook for bending.

Ah, I see what you mean now. For me personally, I never folded it back because then it was unnecessarily heavy. I would just remove the keyboard for touchscreen use, or switch over to the simple shell case. But that's me.

As a lefty (left-handed), I second this as well. The smart keyboard case was never ideal, because for lefties there were two choices: Either hold the iPad upside down (uh oh, issues with Face ID!) or get used to holding mashed keys in back (yikes!). Both were an exceptionally poor UX. So much so that I became right-handed.....joking of course. But needless to say, I am very thankful at the Magic Keyboard's ambidextrous design - I relish the opportunity to easily detach the iPad when needed and not having to worry about the two aforementioned issues.

my 2018 Smart Keyboard works on my lap, so I’m sure this will be better as it’s likely more rigid, has more palm space, etc. It’s nice it’s not anything like a kickstand—have liked surface pros, but man those sucked on the lap.

I’m kind of wondering how further the reach is on the Magic Keyboard Trackpad folio if you do have to reach the screen? Is it more than the original Apple Keyboard folio? It would be my hope that I could do everything via the trackpad. Otherwise I may be in trouble with a short reach.

Too expensive. Even for Apple.
It may appear that way, but consider the alternative:

-Magic Keyboard ~ $129-149
-Magic Trackpad ~ $129-149
-Stand ~ $100+

Buying these three quality pieces separately would be right around the same price, but without the portability and dual use as a case.

Based on these prices, $299-$349 seems fair if it’s as useable and well constructed as it looks.

Just dawned on me. Why is the 12.9” version so much more money than the 11” version. I’ve ordered mine, but is there really that much more cost per inch?

Well stated. Having the all in one makes life easier. I’m going to wait for a few demonstration videos before purchasing but I like what I see so far.

Once we realise that the price of an object is more an indicator of the value it supposedly brings the user, as opposed to calculating the cost of materials and slapping a %margin on top, it makes more sense. It's quite par the course for accessories.

Delete, don’t bet me wrong. I’m still eager for the trackpad keyboard.

Consider the other alternative that most people already have:

-Other better BT keyboard ~ no additional money
-Magic Mouse 2 ~ no additional money
- Current case ~ no additional money

Net cost to keep what I have and have same functionality ~ $0.

And, for me, I'd rather not have to deal with a permanently connected keyboard and the resulting permanent thickness and weight. I like my current cover--thin and light and portable.

Not a real reason to spend an addtional $350.

Does the Magic keyboard look cool and different? Sure. But $350 worth of cool and different? Not for everyone.

People on the move are not going to be carting around a stand, external keyboard and mouse. If they are going to be doing this for the long haul, it makes sense to just bite the bullet now and pay for a more portable and integrated solution. The improved user experience will pay for itself very quickly compared to the frustration of having to deal with so many accessories just to save a few dollars.

I couldn't agree more.

I now have the buyer's remorse - I gotta admit (tons of money)- but at the same time, I am NOT going to cancel my order. I love the look of it and the backlit keyboard is a must-have for me.
I don't care about third-party crippled and bulky solutions as good as they may look like. At the end of the day, I know that I will regret spending money on them and not going for Apple's solution.

I am annoyed by having to carry a stupid mouse with me all the time and having issues with typing during the night.

Any knowledge about whether AppleCare+ is automatically covers the Magic Keyboard when purchased for iPad like with the pencil?
The below is taken from my AppleCare+ for iPad Pro 2020.

In particular, please note that if you make a claim for hardware coverage, each claim will be subject to a policy excess of £ 39 for iPad or £ 25 for Apple Pencil or Apple-branded iPad keyboard.

I carry around my Magic Trackpad but will be nice to open my iPad in the morning and just start doing stuff without needing to grab the Trackpad. That said I’m sure I will still find a use for it. On the sofa it’s just not easy to use magic Trackpad but built in will be natural

I am one of those who opted not to get the Smart Keyboard for the 9.7” iPad Pro because I felt it would be too cramped. Have tried a bunch of keyboards and felt frustrated by them all.

The issue with keyboard cases is that they tend to add a lot of bulk and weight, and it’s a hassle to remove the ipad from the case when you just want the tablet.

External keyboards represent yet another accessory I have to bring around with me, and forget about using it on the lap or on the couch. It’s a shame - I really loved my K380.

When the 2018 ipad pro was released, I got the 11” model, plus the smart keyboard and apple pencil right off the bat, and have not regretted it. The case basically addresses all the bugbears I have had with previous cases. It’s thin and light. The use of magnets means that it is easy to detach and reattach the ipad as needed. The smart connector means no muss or fuss with pairing or charging. Typing quality is decent as well.

Can’t wait to try the new magic keyboard. Will let you all know how it turns out when I get my hands on it!

Ordered one for my 12.9 iPP yesterday and it says “Delivers 20-22 April” as I got in there quick.

I wondered if anyone knew if this was normal though?

I used the Apple Store app and paid using a credit card through Apple Pay. Since then:

- My order has been stuck on “Processing” on my order status
- My Apple Pay/Wallet shows a £0.00 pending charge from Apple, although the notification I got from Wallet/Apple Pay on my lock screen states the correct amount.

In people’s experiences is this normal?

Just worrying my payment has not gone through properly as I find Apple Pay to be unreliable for larger amounts sometimes?

Thanks!

I will do the same. Actually I might even do an unboxing of it although I never posted vids on YouTube :)
Mine should arrive Monday!

Times have slipped to 11-18 may on 12.9 in UK now...was still 20-22 April late last night

Hoping DPD delivers mine...

Payment usually won’t process until the item is in preparing to ship phase.

Thanks! That’s what I presumed but was just worried that payment might fail and I’ll be left with a wait until end of May?

Has anyone’s order from when they first went on sale moved to “Preparing to Ship” or passed “Processing”?

I’m in the UK also.
