I'm a relatively new magic mouse owner and am amazed at the connectivity. I's almost like wired as compared to the other Bluetooth mouse devices that I have.
I may have to pick on up when available. this was a filling, right? when will it be available?

I'm just amazed the "mouse" is still around. instead on scrapping it, we build onto of it.

I have my bluetooth wireless Apple keyboard somewhere in my dusty wardrobe.

If more devices can come with rechargeable batteries that would be a as apposed to using them would be a good start.

Not the biggest news, but quite interesting.

The two biggest problems I had with the Magic Mouse are
1) Replacing batteries every couple of months (and the weight of the device because of the batteries)
2) Poor ergonomics.

I tried used the Magic Mouse for awhile, but my hand started to cramp up, so I switched over to a more ergonomic gaming mouse, which solved the issue for me. But having rechargeable batteries built within the mouse and keyboard sound interesting and might help reduce the size and weight of the devices.

Rechargeable peripherals have never sat well with my workflow. It's much easier to swap AAs than to be inconvenienced while it charges. Hopefully there's an elegant solution in the works.

Agree. I bought the Apple rechargeable batteries when I got my keyboard and track pad. I keep the spare third set charging near the computer at all times, and I just swap them out when either the keyboard or trackpad runs out of juice. I always have a set ready to go.

The keyboard will have the new butterfly mechanism, backlight, and be very thin (hope it comes in black, but I doubt it).

The Magic Mouse will likely get some time of topic feedback.

Would love to see Touch ID somehow integrated but I doubt it.

New design similar to new Macbook keyboard coming?
I really hope so!
I wonder what the chances are of Apple designing a backlight keyboard with an integrated touchpad. I have an external keyboard and trackpad that I use for 99% of my work on my MBP. It would be a great living room peripheral too.
I would really like that too.

Especially with the new butterfly mechanism keys, individual key backlighting, and Force Trackpad like the new 12" Retina MacBook has:

Firstly, the current magic mouse is not really magic - it uses the old red LED technology from 5+ years ago which means the mouse itself cannot work on most surfaces with patterns and when moving the mouse it feels like it dragging on multiple surfaces - will not even work on glass due to reflectivity. Hopefully the new mouse is using a blue LED or similar technology to Logitech's Darkfield, where the LED is light is invisible but works on almost any surface. Having AA batteries means its quick and easy to re-power the mouse and I am surprised they didn't switch to an internal LIPO / Li-Ion battery internally, but this would then require either / or an inductive charging or a power supply with the battery, or a small magsafe connector which has never been needed before.

As for the keyboard, it appears they have dumped the "battery tube" which makes the magic mouse more appealing for battery swapping, for say an internal battery inside the keyboard. I would have preferred they also have backlighting which can be enabled or disabled, as some people use these keyboards for more than desktop mac's. Logitech make windows keyboards which are backlit and run on one USB port - http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-920-000914-Illuminated-Keyboard-K740/dp/B001F51G16 - so no reason why Apple could not do this as well. Without the "battery tube" this means charging must be done via an AC adapter or USB or magsafe, as apple is not pushing wireless charging due to inherent issues, including charge speed.

I have the current magic mouse and I really don't understand why people like using it. The surface is extremely frictive and doesnt feel good at all. Also the clicks are extremely loud and so is the mouse when you move it on any surface. It scratches very easily too.

I was ready to buy both, now I will wait. My batteries seem to die too quickly with the old stuff.

A charging pad would be nice.
