It's ugly and not recognized by the os. A billion dollar company is not smart enough to put the webcam below a key, using a pop up cam or using a black frame for it.

software or hardware hmmmm? Did you get on Adobe's site? Seems a lot of issues supporting Apple Silicon. They are not doing something right.

Seriously DOES NOT sound like a hardware issue at all, maybe contact Adobe?

Unless I’m missing something, 900,000 images in a 15GB catalogue, means each photo is approx 17 Kb. That’s unusable? Isn’t it?

You can build a faster pc for them price as a mac book pro m1 max. And it's repairable. If you daily use the macbook for work station usage it will not rest long.

On 4th November Intel Alderlake with DDR5 and PCIe 5.0 will be released. It's faster than M1 10 Core and has also hybrid architecture.

For workstation purpose i wouldnt care about power consumption. Even if it would use 1000 watt. For noise use watercooling.

I remember reading about a few other people having issues.

If your professional workflow can't afford any down time for early adoption bugs then I would just return the M1 Max to Apple until Adobe optimizes their software to work with the Apple hardware or Apple works out any OS issues that may be causing the leak for Lightroom. This is one of the main reasons why professionals, at least in a studio setting, will not upgrade immediately but wait until early adopters fine tune all bugs.

You're paying a monthly subscription to Adobe for LightRoom and as an Adobe customer this has to be reported so that they can apply bug fixes. Report the issue to Apple support, it could also be some kind of OS issue causing problems like the swap issues from last year.

One of the main reason I use Apple Motion and Final Cut Pro for video or motion graphics despite Apple Motion not being up to par with Adobe After Affects is for hardware and software compatibility. Less headaches.

However, I can't do that for all programs. I am permanently stuck on Adobe Photoshop and Wacom Intuos workflow for work. I've had to report issues with Wacom and Photoshop compatibility anytime there's a software or driver update from either company. I do have Affinity Suite, but Affinity's Photo in terms of brushes and other features doesn't measure up to Photoshop for now (may change later).

If you can't afford downtime, just return the machine and wait a year for early adoption bugs to sort itself out.

I'll be testing my setup once my M1 Max 16" arrives sometime in November. Upgrading from a 2017 15" though, any slight improvement is welcomed.

OP, this is what you sound like: "I bought a bag that can fit 10 pairs of shoes but, apparently, I have 12 pairs and I need them all to fit in the bag. Well, they do not. This bag sucks. Why did I pay $$ for this bag when it sucks!"

Problem is not the Mac you bought. Problem is Lightroom taking up all the memory.

Guy is running three different browsers at the same time on top of Lightroom which is intensive on every system. If Lightroom is consuming all that RAM you need to blame yourself for doing something abnormal or Adobe.

My wife runs lightroom classic on my old hand-me-down gaming pc (It has an RX580) no problem. At all. So I don't understand the problem. Of course this is why I never tried to switch her from what was clearly working for her.

Ya can’t put that workstation in your back pack though and please video when you do just to prove a point.

Seriously, what is going on with the forum lately? We should have a test before someone is able to make an account and make post.

- Finally a pro portable machine came out fixing what we have asked for 6 years, 99% of posts about a notch
- You experience software issues by third party apps in new architecture cpus, suddenly it's Apple's fault.

And calling other fanboys while not being able to distinguish simple things.

Apple is very lucky that the ones who don't need any pro devices and iphones, buy them to show off.

Yes, and when I want to move houses I get movers that bring a big truck. I don’t try and shove my bedroom into my BMW.

At this point it’s pretty clear you aren’t discussing things in good faith, so I’m done. You can keep making your silly statements.

Thanks Fanboi. I guess expecting a pro machine to act like one is not something I should expect apple to be good at?
I am sorry but you should have researched more before getting the MacBook Pro. Lightroom classic is just bad and it doesn't matter how much RAM you have. You should change the thread to "I am not impressed with Adobe Lightroom"

There is an entire industry built around portable workstations with 10‘s of thousands employed and it’s called live event production. 9 out of 10 are using laptops for just about every type of work you can do at an event. Next time you are on a plane and see someone dressed in black with a backpack remember this conversation.
