Just a question - why bother ordering through a reseller in the first place?

I'm sure there must be a valid reason, I just can't think of one lol

Well were I work for instance (university) they don't allow orders to be payed with Visa cards or I have to use my personal Visa card and ask for a refund. Therefor ordering through a reseller was my only option.

The company I work for is letting me get a Macbook instead of the usual Thinkpad for the first time. We have a purchasing agreement with a local business so all our orders go through them, which usually isn't an issue but in this case it was a bit of a pain waiting for them to get the machine.

Buying direct isn’t always convenient in a corporate environment. I’m curious if in the long term, Apple’s attitude towards its dealers and miserable margins it offers them won’t affect and limit the market penetration they manage to get in the corporate world?

I would have saved $270 through the reseller. I gave up waiting though and ordered direct.

If there is no savings I don't know why people bother.

I originally ordered from reseller on Jan 16. The reseller doesn't collect sales tax in my state, so it would be less on my credit card (although I would have reported the tax, as required by law, on my corporate income taxes next year). So, I thought I would save some interest. The price was only about $5 less with the reseller, but for me, keeping the tax off my credit card would have been nice - also the resellers usually give you all sorts of rebates and such on software and other such things, much of which comes out to be free.

I switched my order over to Apple eventually because I had work I need the new computer for and could not afford to put it off any longer. Apple could give me a fairly definitive delivery prediction, while the reseller could only guess (and their best guess was not good).

In the future, I intend to buy previously released Apple products from resellers to save my company money, but if I am ever in a timecrunch for a pre-released product, I'll just go straight to Apple.

Lesson learned.

Yes resellers are a heck of alot cheaper then old apple. I already have a 17 uni but im getting another one to hook pro tools up to and im going to use macmall. I talked to the guy from macmall yesterday and he said they are getting the 2.93's in not this tuesday but next i didnt ask about the stock 2.66 but they might get them in earlier then next tuesday so if your interested abd going reseller and saving some money you dont have to wait much longer. Oh yea and also ebay has tons of 2.66's for dumb cheap from reputable sellers

Received today from a reseller (clubmac) - originally ordered at the end of January. It was definitely painful to see all the Apple orders ship, but this was a good $300-500 cheaper than from Apple (depending how you count the tax).

Canceled!

Got tired of getting the run around for the shipment date from MacMall. They have the worst costumer support. Called to cancel the order and they told me my account manager was not in and to call back tomorrow to talk to him. I know damn well he wont be there because he only works Monday thru Friday. So I ask to talk to someone else and of course they wont be in till tomorrow. Well I couldn't talk to anyone that would help me so I just went and canceled the credit card that was used being they didn't charge me yet. Then sent a nice email to the account manager. My opinion, don't deal with MacMall, the worst customer service I've seen in this business.

wooooppp :D

congrats :) what specs did you get?

I'm proud I created the main thread about this... it was just a little moan about delivery dates at first and to see if other peoples dates was in the same time-frame as mine! then it was featured in the main news section of the site, and it had 2324 replies with 117,132 views :D

NEW COMPETITION: whos the longest waiting uMBP ?

Ordered on Jan 11th (61 days ago!!!) through reseller and still not sure when I am going to receive my new MBP. Waiting that long is almost unbearable.

Hi Gino (I assume you're in Belgium from your BE country code). I DON'T mean to be rude, but I beat you... :)

I ordered the day they were announced, 6th Jan here in New Zealand... and still NO news. Its now been 9.5 WEEKS and its killing me... the worst part is that I have ordered through the local Apple agent in town, who orders with the National agent in New Zealand who orders from Apple in Australia, who places the order with Apple US. So with all these agents in the middle, there is NO WAY (so they say) to trace it... we just have to sit and wait. Finding it difficult when some many people come along and order a month or 2 months after me, and then complain about waiting a few weeks...

Sure am missing that new 17" 7200 Matte I ordered... :-( Good luck to all those who have ordered after us early starters and hope you enjoy the machines... but I sure wish Apple could deliver in a more fair way... some thing crazy like first ordered first delivered ;-)

Ok... whinge finished...

Really? They were more than nice to me. Before I canceled I called in because there date was being pushed back, got free overnight shipping, called back a week later and was offered $50 off the price. Finally had to cancel because I needed the computer more than I needed the savings.

They were great to deal with and will def. use them in the future.

Anyone else been told Apple recalled the shipments to resellers? I was told today that the orders had shipped during the week but Apple then called them back before they reached the resellers with no reason given. I was a little surprised as I would have presumed a recall of any kind would have made the gadget blogs? Might have just been a story from the reseller or the resellers supplier but either way it means another delay before my local reseller has stock. :(

Sounds fishy...

I'm a bit confused by this tracking data, apparently my MBP was shipped on the 11th via Kuhne & Nagel Spedition s.a r.

Status says: Current Delivery Status In Transit to Customer - Shipment on Schedule - 16 Mar 2009

but its only the 13th? I have no tracking data like others I see in this post  any help appreciated!

delivery on my 2.93 17"

hello so i ordered mine march 10th and i was emailed shortly after delivery saying that estimated ship is 7-10 days and estimated delivery is march 20-27th i asked and with no problems they gave me the 2 day shipping option for free. one thing that i was told years ago and still use to this day is to always ask "is this the best you can do when"?

does anyone think it is possible to see it delivered before the 20th?

I ordered the 2.93 ghz mbp with the 7200 rpm dive.

Hi GreyHare7,

I really hope you get your MBP before me because you ordered first. I don't understand why Apple isn't delivering to their resellers and second, and most important, I don't understand the resellers. They never complain to Apple. When I call them they tell me they just don't know anything. If I was in that kind of business and I would see that many people complaining on forums I would really want to get some decent answer from Apple, because it's hurting their business.
But it's good to hear there are some people out there that are also waiting that long (or longer) to receive their 17" uMBP. It kinda relieves the pain, but we will see who will have to wait the longest time. There should be a price or reward from Apple or from one of these many forums to the person who can prove they waited longer than anybody else.

Can you get shipping note over the weekend? Should I bother checking it or should I wait till monday? Anyone knows?

My UMBP is due to ship in 2 more business days. I was thinking of getting a SSD through Newegg but I ordered the 320gb 7200 HDD from Apple. If I call and change my order to the 5400rpm HDD (to save $50) will that push my order back?

If anyone has experience or knowleddge of this please let me know.
