I've got a 2.2 GHz MacBook Pro with an absolutely beautiful display, no yellowing, no dead pixels, it's perfect.

That's wonderful for you, but this thread is about yellowing, which is clearly something you don't have. Go off and enjoy your beautiful display! :)

Just wanted to post and state that mine wasn't affected by it, perhaps the quality control over in Cupertino has been tightened down a bit. I was pretty scared of getting the yellowing issue on it :p

When did you purchase your Macbook Pro?

I understand....sadly I don't think they've tightened up quality control given that the one I received today had a very poor display. it's really just luck and that shouldn't be the case with a $2000 laptop! I'm glad yours is good - my LG is good too. :)

Can someone post some pictures of this yellowing display, I bought my mbp about a month and a half ago and have no problems with that. Although I do have 1 failing pixel in the top right hand corner, but I'm going to go talk to apple about that.

yellowing issue with new penryn ?

it is silence here for awhile. seems like everyone is happy with their SR LED screen ? However i haven't bring my macbook pro for display repair due to the yellowing issue ( purchased at oct 07). The guy in apple store told me they can't promise a repair can fix the problem but guarantee to repair the screen anytime i want. So I decide to wait for the macbook pro update to see if they actually fix the problem. Finally apple update the MBP and hope anyone who purchase the new model can leave feedback here.

Yup - just got a new 15" Penryn MBP (glossy) this week...

I have the bottom third yellow screen... but it dosn't go all the way across, it's mostly dead center in the bottom 1/3... A yellowish, pee-stain blob. It's not drastic, but definitely noticeable enough, especially compared to my Cinema display and another Acer laptop in the same room.

Not happy about this... I'm taking it back to the Apple store on Friday and can hopefully get a no-hassle exchange. I may even have them open the box and check it before I leave the store, such a pain... :(

Which display do you have?

I got a penryn with a 09C81 LG display and do not have the yellowing. The viewing angle is poor on this display but no yellowing.

Hi Jeff,

Have you used a macbook pro with LED display before? If so, do you think the viewing angle is worse than the previous ones? I checked out the 09c81 yesterday but didn't really pay that much attention to viewing angles....

Hi,

No i think it is about the same. I'm just used to my 2 S-IPS Dell monitors at work. :)

I have the glossy screen by the way on my mbp.

I really love the laptop, its just annoying to see dark text at the top and lighter at the bottom. If i slouch down in my chair and tilt the screen back it improves it.

I have the same display...
My yellowness is not as drastic as some of the other older ones, but it's still noticeable if you look for it.

I calibrated the display using Apple's calibration tool, and it did improve things, but... I dunno... It is definitely slighty "warmer" at the bottom of the screen though, but like I said, not drastic.

Hello all,

I'm a newbie waiting for my new MBP to come in. Does this yellowing issue affect more glossy, more matte, or there's no difference?

Cheers

This is a LONG post.

Can someone confirm - is this yellowing problem a new issue or something that was more widespread before August 2007 (as the title of this thread seems to indicate)?

Read the very first line of the very first post:

"This is an effort to determine if people are recieving new MBP without the bottom yellow screen issue..."

Check your facts and don't be so rude.

I strongly believe PDE was just joking. Hence the smiley face.

Me Too! But Fixed :)

I got the same problem like many others however the yellowing is only about 1/2'" at the bottom.

I ran the Pantone HueyPro Calibration and the new profile took care of the issue, the yellow huey's gone. :D

My monitor is 00009C83, I believe it's the Samsung

I'm posting the profile here. Give it a try and see if that helps.
After you downloaded the file you should see two .icc profile in there. Copy them into to your (your user name) Folder, Library, Color Sync, Profiles.

Then go to System Pref., Display, Color, uncheck Show Profile for this display only. You show see a profile name Pantone 3-1-2008. Try it and see if that fix your problem

Mine is not as bad to start with so it's a relief to see HueyPro took care of it.:D

Oh god it just made my slight white-yellowing way more obvious lol.

Should i keep this pantone profile on so the geniuses see the problem more easily? i already intended on taking it to the genius tommorrow morning, i just dont want them to think that i was just trying to make the bottom screen look yellow because i was using this profile. Advice?

It shouldn't be yellow in just one area with any profile so use whatever profile that shows the issue. rememeber that apple
messed up and you're just asking for what you paid for: a laptop with a good screen/ a "pro" machine!
