I got my mbp a month ago (november) and I have no problem with a yellow screen, besides the freezing when I go full screen in itunes.

Could you please tell us what week your MBP was made (4th and 5th digit of your serial #) and what screen you have?

System Preferences... > Displays > Color (tab) > Open Profile and on line 13 what the Model field reads.

Week 44, Samsung? (9C68) Screen - seems OK

Mine seems fine - I didn't have any complaints about the screen until I read this thread - now I'm probably just seeing things due to the power of suggestion.
In any case, for what I do... I don't notice any un-even lighting or colour - at least no more than any other LCD I've seen. The test image with the two white squares does seem to show a slight difference in whiteness between the top and the bottom - a tad "dirty" on the bottom I guess... I'll live with it, as I said - until I read this thread, I didn't have any complaints.
Now as for PIXEL PROBLEMS... this is the 2nd MBP from Apple (direct from China) - I sent the first one back with 4 stuck pixels, and this one has had 2 instances of pixel sticking - though this time they un-stuck within a few hours or less.
The battery did go on this one at cycle 30 though... :eek:full charge but won't power the laptop - shuts off within a couple seconds of d/c the power cord. (see other posts)

I sure do

This is an effort to determine if people are recieving new MBP without the bottom yellow screen issue

I certainly do.

I bought two MacBook Pros in December 2007, and both had the yellowish bottom 3rd of the display.

I've returned both of them, and am now fairly pissed off that Apple gave me the run-around insisting that there was no such thing as a "Yellowish Display Defect."

Here's a picture of my yellow display:

Shame on Apple!

I've had this baby out for repair 2 times, and I now have a screen that is opposite of the effects seen here. The LEFT is brighter, and looks more yellow than the RIGHT side of the screen. Also, the physical LCD inside the screen is over to the left about 2 millimeters, making the right side have a bigger black border than the left. I don't know why, but these two problems BUG THE HECK out of me. Ugh, you would think apples repair centers are full of monkeys.

Just bumping this thread for the sake of hopefully providing more information for you guys!

I bought a new MacBook Pro 15" yesterday; there is no yellowing, the display is perfect! The manufacturer id is 9C6D, so it is neither Samsung or LG, I think it was the other brand I had never heard of which was mentioned in this thread before? Anyway, when I was at the Apple reseller, after the guy got the laptop, he noticed it was an older one that had Tiger on it/Leopard disks inside. Since I know the guys there he offered to get me one of the models that just arrived yesterday. I don't know if this is a sign that Apple is using different LCD's or not, but I figured it was worth mentioning anyway.

I feel for you guys that have had to take multiple laptops back, keep trying and eventually you'll get a good one (hopefully :p).

I have a two month old 15" MBP with the LG display (based on the codes from an earlier post) and have NO yellowing problem. I am wondering if some of this is due to reflection from the backlit keyboard and the screen angle?

Hi guys, I bought a MBP on Tuesday, after the keynote.
I have a 9C67, not sure what that means, but I can say it's perfect.:)
No color issues at all.

Glad to hear that recent MacBook Pros do not have the yellowing screen issue. My MacBook Pro is supposed to arrive between Jan 25-31. I just hope there is no defects with it.

You have an LG display. It seems mostly the Samsungs (9C68) are affected.

Not true, I think: I think that most displays are LGs to begin with, and so you'll hear about more incidents regarding this display. But I think the problem occurs equally among all manufacturers.

My first (attempted) MBP purchase came with the "legendary" 9C66 (AU Optronics) display, and it was yellowish. My second was a 9C68 (Samsung) and it had the same problem, plus a general yellow pallor.

When someone gets a good display and it's of a less common variety, I think it's easy to conclude that that this is the "good kind."

But there is no good kind, it's just luck.

I had two Samsung (yellow at bottom) then got an LG which while being a duller display has an even colour distribution.

My colleague bought an LG based machine at the same time, no probs.

mine is manufactured by the AUO, and i bought it like around 26 december 2007 ( around almost a month ago )

and no, i dont have any yellowing issue, or perhaps there is, but its just too unnoticeable for my eyes  because i run the test and all is white :)

interesting theory. I'd love to know apple's internal numbers with regards to the number of yellow displays. My first macbook pro (bought last august) was seemingly perfect. Now that I look at it, per haps the bottom is a bit darker than the top but it doesn't really bother me. It's probably from reading these threads...

i'm thinking of getting one of the older 2.33 models which have lcds instead of these crappy leds. if apple has any brains at all they will switch back to lcd and admit to their perpetual stupidity.

I don't have a large enough sampling to say anything definitively, but I've carefully examined the LCDs on at least 20 LED macbook pros and I've owned a few too and have an LG one now. The LG displays stand out as not having the yellow, while it seems like a hit-or-miss thing with the others.

Just keep in mind that the old ones had a very different problem: that awful 'grain' issue and often very uneven backlighting. The new ones are better, at least if you're lucky to get one without the yellow. I bought my MBP in July and I can't believe this is still a problem....amazing.

3nd replacement going out tomorrow, which makes my 4th screen.

Samsungs have problems, yes, but when you have a problem with the LG screen, there is always more than 1 problem. For instance, I have uneven backlighting between the left and right sides of my screen, yellowing on the bottom third, and a nice band of backlight bleed that looks like a light saber across the bottom of my screen when showing solid colors.

can you return a bto mbp because of yellowing?

You cannot return it for a refund or a new model but you can send it in to have the display fix under the warranty.

All the MBP's have LCD's. The 2.33 MBP display's use CCFL backlighting and the new SR MBP display's use LED backlighting.

Lg

Got a new 15'' MBP 2.2 yesterday. The screen is very good, noticed no issues.
According to the information in the post, it comes from LG.

I got my MBP yesterday from Amazon, according to coconut battery, the machine is 3 months old.

I'm not sure which LCD I have, but the bottom half is darker than the top, I'm not convinced that the color is yellow, but it is definitely darker.

Connected to my external LG204WT display, the colors are uniform.

Can someone confirm my display information from the image above? I want to say that it is a Samsung, but I'm not positive.

The nearest Apple store is 2 hrs away from me and I'm debating on whether or not I want to bother with hauling it in or calling Apple and shipping my laptop off.

What are the odds of getting a display that isn't messed up in some way?

I just received a macbook pro for a friend and it has a horrid Chi Mei 9C6D display that shows dull, yellowish white throughout and is more yellow AND dark toward the bottom. Compared to my LG display, which shows crisp whites with only a slightly lighter strip at the bottom, the Chi Mei display really is nasty. I can't understand how Apple can continue to ship macbook pros with such differences in display quality. It's being sent back tomorrow.
