This upgrade doesn't seem to provide any discernible benefit.

What I want to be able to do is sync my To Do items to my iPhone via MobileMe. The fact that I still can't do that is ludicrous.

After the CalDAV calendar update to MobileMe today, I can not longer download my regular MobileMe calendars, but my subscriptions download fine (e.g., US Holidays). So, going to Settings/Mail, Calendars, etc. to turn off, then back on your MobileMe calendar WILL NOT refresh your regular calendars on your iPad. You MUST manually create a new calendar account manually to access the new CalDAV server where your MobileMe calendars have been moved.

Here's the direct link to the Apple server with the instructions for setting up access to the new CalDAV calendar server on your iPad:

http://help.apple.com/mobileme/interface/index.html#mmcc733205

This issue will return to normal when iOS 4.2 comes out for the iPad. It works properly on the iPhone 4 with iOS 4.1 today.

NOTE: If you participated in the calendar beta program, you've already set up this account, so you need to do nothing to continue using it.
Thanks for your post! This pretty much put me back in business as far as the iPad is concerned. It's still a bit of a pain though. When entering calendar events on the iPad, you have to make sure you are entering them onto the right server or else the other iOS devices won't see it.

I can't believe they released this update without being "iPad ready". Doesn't seem very Apple like.

You're just being cheap and narrow-minded. A company is entitled to generate revenue from their services. Google achieves that through ads in their Gmail, which is a component of their online office suite. At the end of the day, Google makes revenue just by people using their products. Apple's services aren't ad-based. Maybe one day if/when iAds becomes part of their larger online strategy.

+1 totally agree - i like the fact that it is not ad-based, and that there is no incentive for :apple: to sell my personal info to an ad agency. I pay for the privacy of it all.

Can't Manually sort Todo's now...

After upgrading I'm apparently unable to "manually sort" my ToDo's. I move them in the order I prefer...And after about 5 seconds, they get moved back to the order MobileMe wants them in. I can't see any rhyme or reason behind the order it places things in. But the "Manually sort' button is checked. Ideas?

I upgraded to new Calendar yesterday - this morning I still don't have calendar entries prior to 30 days ago. I can't see them in iCal even.

Anyone else have this issue? I didn't expect mobileme to erase all my calendar entries - and only keep 30 days.

I do! Only realised after seeing your post, but all my old events are gone. When I tried to do the upgrade last night it failed and asked me to send a report to apple. I then clicked the reload button in the box and hey presto I seemed to be up and running on the new service. I wonder if this is related to my "failed" upgrade?

I use time machine to back up so I guess I can pull the data back form there if I have to. Maybe there is a delay on converting the old events?

Does anyone know how I can get my subscribed calendars to show on me.com?

Assuming you mean data entries showing ... Some people report that deleting the original calendar and creating a new one solves this kind of issue. To delete a calendar make sure you create a new one and drag that to the top of the list in iCal so the new one is the default. Then you can delete the older one. Hope this helps.

My co-worker says "don't upgrade yet"

My co-worker just upgraded his calendar and had a bunch of entries disappear.

I haven't tried myself, but he adamantly says, "don't upgrade yet!"

The same thing happened to me. Everything before Aug 27 is gone from iCal, iPhone & MobileMe. Strangely I can still see my old MobileMe calendar on iPad.

I did a chat with Apple just now and they were stumped and pushed this to "senior level" support. They advised against using Time Machine to restore so I will wait and see their response before I try that.

I know, I know, but really, it should be free or lower cost to compete with the alternatives (e.g. Google).

I have Google calendars syncing with my iCal, my iPad, and calendar systems displaying current events on my website. It all works very well. So why would I pay for a yearly subscription to Apple's service?

I'd also consider a steep discount...

But really, a company of Apple's size, especially when data subscription services isn't their primary revenue stream, should be able to come up with something.

I think you have answered your own question, for your use-case Google is best.

As another user said, it's possible and easy! I do it all the time. Just click the share icon next to the calendar (on the left hand side in the web app) and you can choose to share a private calendar (the viewer can make changes to your calendar) or a public calendar (it is read-only, which sounds like this is what you want). You can email them the link which stays valid until you stop sharing the calendar.

Thanks. I've tried this and while I can get a URL for the public calendar, when I past the url into Safari it ends up opening the calendar in my iCal app and asks me to subscribe.

I want to be able to view the public calendar in a browser with no subscription. Possible? I don't want my clients to have to subscribe to my calendar. I just want them to be able to view it in a web browser.

Am I missing something here?

I had entries disappear too (like it only kept a month of my ical entrys. COme on, I know the rest were all past entrys but I use ical to keep track of what my schedule was so I can see what hours I worked before).

How I fixed the problem is a bit convulated (very much a manual fix).

I restored my ical from a backup I made and entered any new ones I missed since the backup (luckily it was a pretty recent backup). This ended up creating calendars in my ical that weren't under mobileme sync.

I then made a test calendar to be the main calendar in the mobileme calendars and deleted all the mobileme calendars (they will be under a mobile me list). This part may not be actually necessary but I wanted to make sure I didn't end up with duplicate entries.

I then exported my calendars on my computer (the ones not on mobileme that were created when I restored from the backup) each with their proper name (work calendar was exported under work).

I created new calendars under mobileme with the proper names I wanted (same as the ones on my computer). And imported the data from the proper export (data exported from the work calendar got exported into the work calendar under mobileme).

I then had duplicate entries so I deleted my computer calendars (I made sure I had a recent backup of course).

So now I just have those calendars under mobileme.

Course, if some one can point out any issues I might have doing this (basically I'm wondering if I have a hard copy of my calendars on my computer at this point or if it is relying on connecting to mobileme to see my calendars, I want my data to actually be on my computer as well and not just relying on the "cloud") I'd appreciate it.

(sadly, I only upgraded cause I was curious on what it looked like. I don't even use the web calender of mobileme, I only like the automatic synching between my computer and iphone without having to manually connect them).

New MM cal with original iphone?

I know that the new MM calendar will sync with my iphone4, and all my SL macs, but we still use an original iPhone with 3.1.3 OS.

What will happen with the Calendar data on the original iphone?

Well, I posted a way if anyone wants to update on how to keep your old info and update (a few posts above this). Just make sure you backup your ical info before updating. But, it's convoluted. I think if I hadn't already figured that out I would have done the downgrade link thing instead. At this point, I don't want to mess with it cause I got it working so I'll just keep the upgrade.

I still don't see the point of the upgrade honestly (What does it do different for me?).

Anyways, Apple should have made sure it synched better before releasing it. Some one should do a survey of people who upgraded to the new mobileme on how many lost old data. I mean the fact that it seems reliable amongst everyone that it erases data more than a month old seems to me to say it's not just a wierd thing some people are hitting but maybe something it is doing to almost everyone?

Lots of talk of backup - but that's now "improved" too

Lots of people reminding others to backup before the upgrade. But after the upgrade and all you calendars have moved from "On My Mac" to "xxx@me.com" then good old back via file/export/ical archive, which used to create a single file with a date in the name, no longer works as you no longer have any data on your Mac. The only way to do this is to export each calendar separately.

See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4226

They nicely describe an unworkable process
