Lots of people reminding others to backup before the upgrade. But after the upgrade and all you calendars have moved from "On My Mac" to "xxx@me.com" then good old back via file/export/ical archive, which used to create a single file with a date in the name, no longer works as you no longer have any data on your Mac. The only way to do this is to export each calendar separately.
See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4226
They nicely describe an unworkable process
No kidding! That's ridiculous! I just tried an experiment to test it out.
I backed up my calendar and then changed one thing on it afterwards. I restored back to the backup, and it immediately connected to mobileme and undid my restore back to the changed version.
I tried telling it not to synch my calendar. Still would change it back to the changed version.
I tried signing off of mobile me! It still changed my changed version.
That is the most ridiculous change! It's worse than the change they did to ical a while back where if you wanted to enter a new entry it did not put you into the edit screen, you had to hit control-i (for get info) to actually edit your new entry (if you make a new entry, wouldn't you already want to be editing it?!).
Apple really sux at calendar programs. What sux is they seem to get *worse* with each change, not better. Of coures not been a fan of their software in general (mostly their OS's). But wtf?!!! Who the hell thought that was a *good* *feature* to enter in their new calendar?!
*bangs head against wall*.
(I will note I have seen one advantage but not sure it's worth it, it does seem to update the calendar faster on my mac and iphone. Like as soon as I make the change, unlike with the old calendar that could take a while to see the change on my other stuff. Which is nice. But I fail to see why we lost so much other functionality and had such a buggy switch over that many people lost any info that was over a month old).
