Now that would be a great addition to the MobileMe service. I'd imagine that it would most likely be cloud based playback rather than wireless/remote syncing, but I could live with that. Should I find myself in a location with no signal and poor wifi, then I'd just have to listen to the music stored already on the device.

Bring it on!

Implementation....

All files you have in iTunes can be synched or just purchases from iTunes Music Store?

GBs worth of music over 3G...that could take a while.

Hence why this rumor is pointing towards summer, just in time for the iPhone 4G?

I've always thought a way to pull from your iTunes library while on the move would work fantastically on the iPhone. If you are after a certain song or photo that you neglected to sync, you could stream or download it over the air. It would then become a part of your device's library, as if you had synced it in the first place.

Now this is a reason for me to continue my MobileMe subscription. I would much rather pay the price and gain exciting new features, than have the current set go for free.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

Hopefully this includes OS updates. And add user profiles!

So this is how Apple will be able to put SSD flash storage in the MBP. 128gb flash to keep price points the same, while allowing everyone to store everything in the cloud. It eliminates the need for massive storage on the device.

Ideally, for me, Apple would let me download the file and access it streaming. And retroactively do it for everything previously purchased.

I like the idea of wireless syncing or wireless download from your iTunes library but, I do NOT want Apple taking away on-board physical storage from the iPhones. I still want physical copies of my own music on my phone. Also, if the rumors are true about cloud based services would that not eat up your data caps really fast?

This sounds great & all but how but for the iPod Touch users? We can always try to find hotspot but that does not guarantee there will be a hotspot but would not hurt to have this future for the iPod Touch users. Plus, does this mean I will have to subscribe to MobileMe with monthly fee or it would be a free service the sync future?

I feel like I say this in a ton of threads, but oh well, here I go again:

The Plex app already does this. iTunes Music, Movies, Home Videos and iPhoto Pics can all be streamed to your iOS device thru this one simple app. And it's only five bucks...

Simplify Media had this like three years ago. Then Apple bought them out and got rid of the project. I wonder where they got the technology from ^_^. To bad mobile me isn't free and simplify was.

For this to be cool instead of lame would require the following:

1) must include access to ALL songs on my home computer, not just the songs I purchased through iTunes (or at the very least it must do it when my iOS device is connected to the same local home wifi network that my home computer is connected to)

2) must be free or very inexpensive

3) must work with ALL older iOS devices, not just current generation devices

4) must work on PPC macs as well (because lots of us use our old PPCs as our music servers)

Audiogalaxy works great here in Baltimore. Actually, the AT&T coverage is excellent overall here. Audiogalaxy buffers about 2 minutes of music...I can make it through the Harbor Tunnel here with no dropout.

1) Probably not. Too tough to get labels to sign off.

2) If it's just music you bought from iTunes, most likely free.

3) Not happening. iOS 4.3 ends support for iPhone 3G. Update your stuff.

4) Not going to happen. The last PowerPC mac is 5 years old this year. iLife '11 is Snow Leopard-only, and Lion is launching this year. You can't expect new features if Apple has to keep hanging on and supporting old hardware.

I guess the 8 people who voted this as a negative must love using wires and having to slowly sync all their data.

It's only going to be music you bought through the itunes store in aac who cares. It won't be synced in the sense that its download to your phone it will be synced to your account meaning you can stream the songs that you downloaded to your computer from the cloud. If they do include actual iphone syncing it will be over wi-fi.

I don't see how the labels have any say in this. I purchased tons of music on cd, which means I legally have a license to listen to it for personal use however I want to. This is neither making a duplicate copy of the music I bought, nor is it distributing copies of the music I bought. The music labels have no power on this issue.

Firstly, that's a really obnoxious way to talk. Secondly, I have a nearly brand new ipod touch that I got this previous september, but it was the 8 GB version which apple very underhandedly actually used the 2nd generation hardware on, not the 3rd generation hardware that all the other iPod touches were built from at that time. My iPod touch is 6 months old, bought brand new from Apple, so don't tell me to "update m stuff." My stuff is basically brand new, so Apple damn well better support it.

On this topic you sound like you don't know what you're talking about. As of today, the PPC version of iTunes is the EXACT same version as itunes for intel macs. The current PPC version of iTunes has EVERY feature that intel itunes has except for the ability to play HD videos.

I think this new service could be a great addition. However, I hope Apple still offer more onboard storage.

I have a wifi iPad, so there are times I am not connected to any network.
The 64gb iPad holds most of my music but only a fraction of my video. A 128gb iPad would be a major improvement.

Can't Get Behind the Cloud

I just don't want to see my media depend on cloud computing. I know when I walk through Center City Philadelphia listening to a radio player on my iPhone, the service drops constantly. If I have that kind of service for content I pay for, that would be a waste. Ask anyone who lost all their data off their Sidekick, and I'm sure that they hate cloud based storage.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter what I or anyone else thinks. It's all about what Steve Jobs wants. So I'll just have to get used to never being able to listen to my content on the iPhone. I just wish that they do leave some ability to store content on the device.
