We're going in circles here. But it's clear you don't understand the difference between stealing and piracy, despite two very blatant examples.

Digital rights, digital property, what have you, they have very blurry lines between what's allowed and what's not.

As a more extreme example, if I were to play my music loudly, and my neighbors heard is that illegal? What if they recorded it? Now what if they stood right outside my window to record it? Or inside my room? Or used a professional mic? Where is that line exactly between redistribution and just... every day use?

Point is, no one's taking your software, you still have it. That's the difference. It's NOT a tangible item.

The problem, is that it does end up affecting some people. Independent devs, music artists, film makers, etc suffer. Who is to say that one day you or I won't be one of those people. The reason most people don't care is because they don't see the affect that it has.

A lot of people also don't feel guilty stealing from billion dollar companies and record labels. The thing you don't think about is the indie community.

LOL, that's not true my friend.
Independent music artist are making BIG money right now. Before, aside from good music they needed contacts in a major music company. Now they only need good music, some viral marketing (cheap and easy to do), and start touring to have success.

The same goes with games. Before you needed a lot of infrastructure and a major label to back your software. Now you only need to be smart, embed it with some publicity, and let it free in app store or torrents, and let the publicity make money for you.

Before all the independent developers where oppressed by big companies, they couldn't release anything without their backing. Now they don't need them anymore, and that is what is hitting hard on big companies.

What is EA doing right now?? Buying for millions and millions small companies which developed small games for App Stores.

so if everyone who pirates software wouldn't use it if they couldn't get it for free... why are they using it. They don't have product licenses and charge for software for no reason.

I understand that not every piece of pirated software would equal a sale, but if you aren't willing to buy it, don't pirate it.... you are stealing from a software developer/company.

You don't understand, but it IS stealing because, for example, every app i could want i can get for free from jailbreaking, every movie I want i could find on torrents, every song, etc, etc.... so why should i pay for it when it's free right?

SMS has long been a rip off. Consider that you are paying $1,310.72 per Megabyte......

OMG!!! You basically are saying exactly what our Argentinian friend has been saying from the very beginning!!!!

And you know what?? Because you know that is a rip off, because you have lived it, you can understand it. Exactly what happens with developing countries. Why do I have to pay SO MUCH for something that is obviously not worth it???

WhatsApp = Carrier the same way as Piracy = Hollywood

A single msg in WhatsApp = a SMS not sent by the carrier.

Some people use Photoshop just because they need to make a little retouch to photos, and they don't want to pay 700dlls for a software they will be using just to lightly retouch a photo. Why would they get a behemoth in post processing just for that anyway??? The only industry that seems to understand that not everyone needs a full product, and that offering a limited product will satisfy most users is the antivirus industry.

Remember the days when using Norton or McAfee and paying the 100dlls license was the only way to go with windows machines??? Then someone realized hey!!! Not everyone need a full antivirus, most people only need a basic one, and if I give them away for free, then I'll get more samples from random virus, that way my database will be bigger in shorter time, giving better protection, and much faster reaction for my premium clients than other companies.

Like I said, I'm not going to argue piracy with you guys, if you think it's acceptable, I feel sorry for you. Just because something may not be an actual item you took, you are taking code, or audio tracks, just because you can't touch them physically doesn't mean you aren't taking them.

And yes, I'm pointing out that SMS is a rip-off, but I still am paying for it. I don't find ways around it, or ways to steal texts, I pay for my plan and that's that, just like if you want something you should also pay for it. Supply and demand will always regulate the prices of items, if you aren't willing to pay, that doesn't mean you should pirate.

Photoshop was a terrible example, if you just want to do light photo edits and touch ups, there are plenty of apps that can do that for much cheaper, some free... so why are you taking the software.

You can try to justify why you steal all day, the point is it's illegal and wrong. If you don't agree, you have a moral imbalance because if you should be able to pirate, then so should I, and so should my friends, and your friends, and my parents, and their parents, and the people across the street, and everyone else they know, and the friends of the friends of the friends around the world. So why should any of us pay for it, we should all just get it for free and no devs or record studios or producers or actors or sound guys should get payed and we should all just get it for free. I mean we aren't taking the movie from the store, we are just getting a copy of it, so that's cool.

Anyways, not gonna post to argue it anymore. Good day to you all, I hope you don't continue to pirate forever.

Considering US Law has yet to make that distinction, claiming piracy is or is not theft is nothing more than an opinion.

Frankly I don't care one way or the other. I just dislike when people post misinformation and promote it as fact. People are free to do what they want, and in this case, know the consequences if they are caught.

There's no misinformation on my end. Just opinion. Good opinions imo. Like this one: the best way to prevent piracy is to name your band "Naked Children" or "Child Pornography".
