Technically this should work on an iPhone 15 pro as well, no? Hopefully the app gets an update, I can see many ways how this could be a handy tool.

Serious gamers will get an actual gaming monitor/TV.

This app may be good enough for casual gamers or other related uses that is latency-tolerant.

Cool app will give it a try. Plenty of dongles around and cheap enough. Like $20 total for the unlocked app and Amazon dongle.

Have you actually tried this specific app? Please define “atrocious”. In what situation are you referring to? I would use it as a monitor for my home security cameras (4), so a 1 or 2 seconds lag would not be an issue for me. 🤔
Agreed with atrocious being baseless, but it's true there will be some lag and how much could make gaming a no-go

You'd be surprised how incredibly hard even old SNES games are with any lag. (Don't say ROMs, that's not the point..)

Any HDMI to USB Video Class (UVC) adapter is going to have some latency. Some devices may be better than others though.

For those asking how the latency is - it’ll depend on which capture card you get, and also the task you’re doing.

Small cheap capture cards tend to struggle a bit, so you’ll have a decent amount of latency - but we’re talking under a half second less most likely. Office tasks or gaming like Genshin, Zelda, Minecraft? Should be fine.

But anything that relies on low latency like many platformers or online shooters, it will be enough lag to put you at a disadvantage. Not a fault of the app but just how capture cards work.

So you’re talking about gaming (something I don’t do) based on past experiences of similar products. For my use as a monitor for my household security cameras it sounds like it could work very well. Thanks for clarifying! 🫶🏻

Have a part holiday/part work next year where I need to work out of an AirBnB for a couple of weeks it.

Would be interesting if I could somehow manage to get away with using just the laptop screen and the 12.9inch iPad Pro which I'd have with me anyway. Might test it at the weekend and see what the overall experience is like. Would IT have to sign off on this software, or is it purely going to be installed on the iPad? I'd just be running USB-C to USB-C.

Imagine being able to travel and not have to worry about sourcing or taking monitors with you!

Right. 17 now allows for video capture. There are a couple other apps in beta that I've tried. works great. Those HDMI video capture adapters are cheap.

Point is, this app isn't unique, and there will be others. Do you need this when there are apps like Sidecar, Duet, and others? Well it's HDMI, and there are differences such as not needing a computer.

I used another app like this to hook up a display for a Yamaha synth. It works for these, and probably consoles, cameras, and other stuff. Portability.
What synth do you use? Are newer models built for this output feature?
