I wonder what the resolution of the uvc is supported and the frame rate support is? anyone got info on that

Gaming consoles what sort of delay is there ?
pretty sure it all depends on the capture card; to be honest with a decent capture card you probably got some decent latency especially when you compare on how televisions stands of latency are still 5-10ms

I'm not sure why you want to, put could you in theory use your Apple TV or Fire Stick and have the iPad as the display?
anything that can be displayed with an hdmi using a capture card will be able to be used, from fire tv , roku, chromacast, he’ll even technically a gaming pc. Which I might try to do if somehow macbook supports uvc too

Just tried this with a cheap soomfon hdmi usb c capture device, barely any latency and looks great!

This could be a game changer in getting out of a hole in live events or for capturing footage for editing on the fly

Interesting, it's always nice to have options!

Do you think it'll work with the capture card connected to a USB C hub? Mainly thinking for power to the iPad.

I was wondering the video out I have seen so far would not be good for any gameplay it’s 1-2 second lag

Seems redundant. Sidecar?
The new iPad displays are exceptionally good quality. An app like this means you can quickly get signal on to an iPad and have a reasonably good idea of what you're looking. I just tried it off a Sony pro camera via an AJA UTAP SDI on to an iPad pro and its very good.

Can‘t you just plug this in the USB-C port on any modern GPU? What would you need a capture card for in this case?

Because the screens are crap, the new iPad displays are exceptionally good quality. An app like this means you can quickly get signal on to an iPad and have a reasonably good idea of what you're looking.
Disagree for what they are and the one I use daily looks great. I would rather not deal with latency issues over an app and the small size of an iPad screen...

I hooked it up to my XSX this morning using a fairly cheap USB HDMI capture device I have laying around and it technically works but it is not what I would call playable. There's noticeable lag on the controller inputs and screen tearing is pretty noticeable as well.

Playing using icloud or remote connection to your local xbox is a better experience.

This feature could be handy for technicians or anyone that might normally need to carry around an extra display for various work functions.

This would be great with an iPad Mini. Or any iPad.

So your options are this, or a small HDMI monitor, that are plentiful and very cheap ($80 Amazon, approx.). The benefits of this are that you may already have it, and carry it. It also will have a single cable going in, which will not be the case with monitor which is a two cable solution. Downside with the iPad is you need the capture card and a hub maybe. It may be that a single cable is preferable for handheld use.

Apparently though there is latency. My use was static so I din't notice anything. An HDMI monitor will have no latency. So for gamers this may be a bad idea.

It’d be great for crashcart / portable terminal usage if one of these USB-C capture cards could also push the iPad’s on screen keyboard to the source machine as a USB keyboard input.

Capture devices aren't really designed for real time usage, you're supposed to passthrough the signal and not watch the actual capture. There's probably waaaaay too much latency to even bother.

This software is misleading at best.

There are cheap usb c portable displays. Why deal with an app?
There are cheap calculators, why deal with the iPhone calculator app?

that said, I spent a few months trying to do this with my Mac and a Switch during the pandemic with a similar capture card, the latency was untenable. I have little faith in this for console purposes.

and you wouldn't not have that complaint with a portable usb c monitor. Kinda proving my point?

Give me a real calculator over the iPhone calc app anyday also. The iPhone calculator is only good for when in a pinch

Those top results don’t have more than one USBC port. The USBC port is for charging, and then they have some mix of HDMI or USBA or SD slots, etc.
There might be a difference in how the results are displayed for different users, but for me each of the top three and 6 of the top 8 have multiple USB C ports. Frankly, I assumed that it was obvious that you buy what is needed. That’s why I just posted the bulk search instead of specific hubs. The ones without USB C input other than power can be used with a USB A adapter on the capture card. Many of them come with the adapter included.
