mine stays pretty cool and I watching 2 straight hours of netfliz last night plus playing a bit of infinity blade 2. Do any of you have the cases on it? I have the 16gb Black wi Fi version.

What brightness is your iPad set at for those that feel their is too warm?

I did a test last night streaming a 1080p movie to the iPad for 1.5 hours. The warmth is no different than my iPad 2. Mine was set at half brightness and wi-fi only model.

My 16gb white WiFi model does get warm in that section after a bit of use. My iPad 2 used to get warm as well, but it took much longer than the new iPad. It's not really something I feel like I should worry about as it's not burning my hands or anything.

Yep my new iPad definitely gets hot - I noticed it straight away.

I have had the iPad and iPad 2 and did not notice this with those devices.

I read in the Apple Support forums that someone suggested running down your iPad battery to 0%, then leaving it to charge fully - and this could fix the problem.

I have not tried this, and have not used the new iPad enough to confirm or deny any real problems or solutions to problem.

Once I do more testing I'll reply back in this thread. I hope this can be solved as I do not want to hold an uncomfortably warm iPad for any length of time.

I have done everything in my power to get mine to run "HOT" I feel that it gets warm, but certainly NOT HOT. We played several games that are very graphic intense, just slightly warm to the touch. I've watched 2 hour movies on full brightness and it barely got warm.

So, if folks are really having issues where theirs is getting "HOT", so much so that as the last poster says it becomes uncomfortable, I think you have something wrong!

I have fully depleted my battery and fully charged it. I find it hard to believe that would solve a heat issue if there is a real heat issue. I often find some folks use the term "HOT" for warm though.

Eureka!

I found a solution to the heat! Thick, wool mittens on your hands. Your hands may overheat, but it's not because of the iPad.

Also, walk-in freezers. You iPad will not get hot!

got a little warm when i was restoring from backup but nada after that, mostly surfing and watching video;
now that i have a case on it i haven't noticed any issues

For those of you who say who think this thing overheats, you've obviously never used a 27 inch iMac with an i7 inside. now that IS HOT!!!!

First night of use mine was warm, not overheating warm, ran my battery down to 0% and charged overnight, not really noticed it since, or my hand is becoming used to it, one of the two.

mine got slightly warm after more than an hour of infinity blade II, but no where near hot! you want to feel hot, come touch my gsm samsung galaxy nexus after about 10 minutes with the GPS on!

Last night I did notice my iPad getting a tad bit warm. Not anything that would deter me from holding it. I wouldnt call it hot. Before I noticed it, I did turn off the automatic brightness mode, and it was set to half way. I was playing a game, although not graphically spectacular by any means. I don't have a cover on mine yet (awaiting the Joy Factory SmartSuit3). I don't think I'd notice it if mine had a cover, it wasn't throwing off any heat. Just slightly warm to the touch, just the back though, and mine was warm in the middle actually where the apple logo is.

White 16GB Wifi

I'm not too worried about it. If it gets to the point where I can't touch it, or it starts making noises, then I'd worry. ;)

I've noticed my iPad getting warm when I'm using it also. It's not horrible, but it is definitely there. I wondered if anyone else had noticed it, and now I know. :)

I think people need to get their definitions of "hot" and "warm" o. The same scale.

My iPad definitely gets warm after using it for a while, but not hot.

Warm for me means a cup of coffee in a mug that has been sitting out for half an hour.

Hot means a cup of scalding coffee poured into a paper thin cup that you can't hold for more than 5 seconds.

My iPad at most feels like a strong fever in a human (around 103 degrees Fahrenheit). Higher than the temp of my hands, but not anything uncomfortable.

I've read that the reason why the new iPad overheats is mainly due to the large battery and LTE. Or it may be that the processor / A5X chip is working on its maximum power usage.

I used mine for most of the day that I got it as well as the next. Plenty of games, downloading apps, email, internet, charging, etc. I didn't notice any additional warmth at all.

Hello,

I just received an iPad 3 White 32GB WIFI, unfortunately, when holding it in portrait mode, the iPad WARMS UP (not overheat) on the left, near the bottom, where my hands would be.

Anyone else notice this?

Thanks!

You're holding it wrong.

Sorry, could not resist!. Yes, my new iPad gets a bit warmer than my iPad 2 (which did not get warm at all).

But while I noticed it, it was not a problem for me even after 2 hours.

But that won't stop this from becoming a.... Toastergate.
