I'm not buying the back of this. It continues to look hideous. Maybe the size is right, but the back can't be correct. It's ugly and very unlike Apple.

I can't people buy into every rumor that comes down the pipe. Especially when there is such a solid history of these "leaks" being generally not close to what is actually released.

Please show me the "solid history" of leaks being not accurate. I think it's quite the contrary. With the exception of the teardrop iphone last year.

An increase by 0.5cm? I don't see why Apple would change the resolution (and thus fragment iOS somewhat because apps will need to be updated to support the new resolution) just for such a small amount of space. Perhaps 1.25-2.5cm yeah, I could understand that but 0.5cm seems so small.
If my math is correct, the screen height itself will be increased by 1.4 cm but about 1 cm of this will come from smaller top and bottom bezels thus only leading to about half a centimeter longer outer case.

Current screen dimensions: 74 x 49.4 mm, diagonally 89 mm aka 3.5"
Current outer dimensions: 115.2 x 58.66 mm

Purported new screen dimensions: ca. 88 x 49.4 mm, diagonally ca. 101 mm aka 3.97"
Purported new outer dimensions: 120 x 58.66 mm

I just don't understand why the most troublesome item (the home button) on both the iPad and the iPhone remains stubbornly intact. Do away with it and just have a software solution...Result? Less iPhones returned due to faulty home buttons and room for a larger screen. Of course, these images are just speculation anyway, but I'm not holding my breathe for a re-design that removes that button from the device.

MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY. The home button is one of my least favorite parts of the iPhone.

I also find the naked iPhone very uncomfortable to hold. Hard to the touch and sharp edges.

Rounded edges and virtual home button please!

I agree, not a fan of this if ALL they do is make the phone longer (obv internals will be upgraded, I'm speaking design wise)
I was expecting maybe a tapered back ala ipod touch.

We'll see though,

I'm super sad to see the phone doesn't get wider as well. I find it very small and tough to read on and would love just a bit wider. Holding it sideways is awkward and this slightly longer version will be so as well.

Recently held the Samsung S3 and was in awe of the spring. Don't think Apple needs to do that big if they don't think its warranted, but existing width is a bummer....

Not sure, but this may lead me to go android in fall (hassle as I have 2 apple laptops, a desktop and two ipads...

That would mean an increase in screen size of a little more than half an inch, if true that's more reasonable.

iPhone 5 display

A longer iPhone is not a larger display. I want a larger display (i.e. proportionally wider also!!

Sorry Jony, Lumia 900 has cleaner design.

Until you turn it over.

Expectations for the next iPhone are usually pretty high, remember the iPad-style back from last year, of which everyone was certain? At some point, Apple needs to hose down expectations, and engineers a few genuine leaks, to calm the markets/fans.

Longer is good, but wider would be even better. We do so much more on phones now than we did in 2007. We need the screen real estate, and the battery space… Think bigger, thinner, and if possible, lighter, please Jony.

What do these people do for a living that they sit around making molds of fake iphones? Get a job hippies...

I bet they are case makers, they made this mold based on the leaked parts so they could test out their cases.

Edit: And for what it's worth, I also believe the earlier leaked cases were exactly what we're going to see for the next iPhone. This aluminium block is clearly not from Apple, it's just a mockup someone else made.

But the earlier cases that leaked were so well machined and finished, it must be from Apple. They also seem to employ some form of unibody design. Nobody goes through that kind of detail for a hoax. And the screw holes lined up exactly with the new dock port assembly that also leaked.

Personally i want apple to go back to the iPhone one style, Metal back, rounded edges, but make it the size of the Samsung Galaxy S2,

I don't like the 3/3GS plastic curved back, i detest the glass and aluminum brick design of the 4/4s (never have i held a more uncomfortable phone since my Motorola M20 flip phone.)

Yeah so the camera hole on the back doesn't line up with the corner rounding.

Also it is too close to the gap.

I beleive this is the design, but this specific thing is just something someone did with their spare time in their metal shop.

Well, same design but with the camera better positioned:

It's really disappointing to have an iPhone 4 at this point. I waited (not so) patiently last year at this time for the iPhone 5, took in all the speculation on size and shape, capabilities, etc. Then, was totally disappointed with the introduction of the 4S. What a balloon burst that was!

Here we are again - waiting for the iPhone 5 - and the best speculation we get is a slightly enlarged version of the same ol' same ol'.

I so agree with other posters who say it's time for the iPhone to have a larger screen - not just one row of icons, but BIGGER - taller and wider. The iPhone 4 & 4S screen is one step away from useless for web browsing. If current iPhone screen graphics were on a larger screen - say 4.5 inches - and the home button were part of the touch screen ... that would be a WINNER, at least IMO.

In other words, make the iPhone look just like every other smartphone. Brilliant.

I remember the same things about the iPhone 4 design when it leaked - how fugly it was.

It might actually look nice in the hand and in person. The iPhone 4 looked rather weird in photos, but in person it looked far better.

I agree. The iPhone 4 looked pretty strange at first, but once I actually saw it in person and held it, I was sold.

I think the iPhone 5 will have a very similar reception.

You just descibed the SGS III haha. Seriously so many people want the iPhone to turn into an Android device when in reality the iPhone will always be the iPhone it will look like an iPhone it will work like an iPhone. There are huge differences in the chassis in this next generation but guess what, it still looks like an iPhone. Sure it's not that teardrop that would have been awesome but Apple won't change the design that radically just because people want to look at something different.

I've been researching the S3 - just to see what's going to challenge the next iPhone. I've been in the Android camp previously, but burned with a disastrous (and expensive) device that never came close to its advertised hype. In fact, it was made obsolete within a couple months by an avalanche of new devices.

When this happened, I already had an iPhone 4 and when iOS 5 appeared, there was no contest. I'm staying with iPhone for a multitude of reasons - quality, security, design, capabilities, and Apple's overall penchant for detail, among others.
